I'm a weeping mess. I can't even speak words to say what this band has meant to me over the years. The day I got "What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World," is known as Decemberists day in my household, because my boyfriend had never seen me glow, weep, feel the way I did on my first listen to that album. (As well as most subsequent listens.) The Decemberists were my first love, and people still need to squish in with them to fit in my heart. Thank you for everything. I will be a devoted fan until the end of my days.

+Corruptangel Oh yes. Their very first album is wonderful, also Long Live the King and The King is Dead. Hazards of Love, though, is the first I heard; it made me fall in love with them instantly.

I don't see why everyone thinks they got bad after King is Dead. There are a ton of great songs on that album, the EP that came with it, and their latest. Do people just have that same pouty hipster "their older stuff was better" attitude with everything?

+BANE? I think The King is Dead is wonderful. Their second best album after Picaresque. That said, I think 'What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World' is BY FAR their worst record. I still give it like a 7/10, but it was a disappointment for me. That isn't to say there aren't a few great songs on it (Make You Better, The Lake Song, Mistral), but there are also really bad songs.
