So Sam Bradford was the reason the NFL adopted a rookie scale for contracts...did not know that. Also...looking back at that 2011 draft, but from an offense perspective, it clearly wasn't a QB deep draft. Aside ftom Cam Newton, the three other QBs selected in the 1st round were Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, and Christian Ponder. I dont know if there were any late round gems at QB that year, but this illustrates how unpredictable QB prospects can be...still the toughest position in all of sports to draft correctly.

Sam could play. But unfortunately went to a dysfunctional organization with a head coach that didn’t fit with him. Had he gone into a better situation, I think Sam could have been one of the best ever

NFL got the idea for a rookie wage scale from the NBA. They’ve been using one since 1995.

There should be no rookie scale. Pay these kids from the jump period. Or let them choose which team they want to go to if not! Get a lottery system stop giving the number 1 pick to tank teams. Bad teams ruin good players every single yr as a player they need to take back their power.
@gordonlove51219 ай бұрын
That would create a top heavy league, where the same top 10 teams dominate always. Plus it's not realistic for cap space. You're right that bad management and bad teams ruin careers, but what you're proposing would far more harmful.

Lottery system is so terrible because bad teams can get stuck in perpetual losing just because they keep getting unlucky.

@@yetekt6953 that’s not true it’s real time evidence years of evidence that shows that’s not true. Come with facts not theories. In reality, the salary cap has caused more purgatory than any lottery system.

What are you hoping the Raiders do this draft?

There should be no rookie wage scale. Teams should be allowed to make errors and players should be allowed to advocate for their true value. Great example, RBs are screwed by rookie wages bc their peak value is their first few years in the league.
@OkagaCalifornia8 ай бұрын
RBs still wouldn’t get second contracts though, wdym. They’re not getting screwed out of money because of the rookie wage scale, they’re being screwed out of money because by the time their rookie contract is up, they have already had years of mileage on them dating back to college. The rookie wage scale is fine, but the length of contracts is an issue for different positions. RBs should get 2-3 year rookie contracts with NO franchise tagging to allow them to become UFA, then maybe we can see RBs getting paid at their prime.
@Clownlife4328 ай бұрын
@@OkagaCalifornia they are getting screwed by the rookie wage scale. Their peak value is right when they hit the league and drops off year after year with more wear and tear. Even if the rookie pay scale was only 1 year they would be getting screwed out of 1 year they could have made significantly more money that they can’t make up on the back end. Someone like Barkley will never really make up the lost value of any one season vs the time they have left because with an injury history already teams will be less likely to offer big money. Also, 1 year lost of peak earnings is just that, 1 year lost. You can’t make for it, and the RBs are absolutely getting screwed bc Barkley is way more valuable year 1-3 than just about any point past year 6. It’s the nature of the position.

I always loved watching Sam Bradford, hate how his career went playing on bad teams and taking a beating…qb is the highest regarded position and 9/10 probably taken by the arguably worst team in the league. That team with the number one pick, idk if qb should be top choice on their board. That team is there because that team has holes EVERYWHERE. Edit: for example Andrew luck
