I appreciate the love and detail that goes into a deck like this, improving over time with each update and iteration. Personally I'm not a commander player, but I do have 2 sets of decks that are built exactly like commander decks that are meant to play against eachother in the duel deck style. Both are 100 card singleton, with a bunch of legends that could be used as commanders in a pinch if so desired. As I'm more a designer on theme, trying to fit cards that fit that together with the gameplay, being a little more restrictive actually helps to cut down on the impossible amount of cards that could fit. These decks are basically 2 of my own takes on Angels vs Demons and I've built a Mono-black vs Mono-white version and a RB vs RW version too. It is some good old battlecruiser magic, with massive creatures and huge boardswings.

When i went through the actual decklist, I really understood what you mean now about making them guess about what is the bigger threat. I also love how hard it looks to actually get rid of your commanders, if they don't have a mass exile card, it seems like you'll always have an answer and even when they do you might have a counter 😂 wish I could afford it, definitely looks like lots of fun

Backgrounds are indeed very effective for partners, I greatly enjoy guild artisan even though my bjorna and wernog don't really want to attack. Making 2-4 treasures a turn is nice (and right before blockers, just in time for them to represent combat tricks). Although the commanders being 4 might make the ramp come in a bit too late.

Seems like an awesome deck! I've been looking to pick up something new that felt different lately, and I rarely branch into 4 color decks. This looks like the one I'm going to try, I'm in the same boat where I love having an deck that produces a ton of variety and keeps my opponents guessing. I'm guessing my pod will enjoy this one as well, guess we'll see! I am curious if it runs out of juice in larger pods late game, since combat tricks are obviously one trick and pretty situational. Update after playing - This is now my favorite deck! Super well-balanced mana base and I've found very little redundancy with the exception of maybe a few too many sources of trample. Vulnerable to board wipes, but not too bad since the commanders just come back and continue building value again. Highly recommend this list to anyone who wants to drop some cheddar on a deck. I don't believe the deck requires The One Ring or Dockside, so those are decent cuts to save a few hundred bucks. Though they are undoubtedly helpful if you can get them.

I’ve been tinkering with Partners trying to find a good pairing for backgrounds to double up on their benefits. I chose Pako/Haldan but might try them out. FYI Hardy Outlander is really good for this. You can stack the triggers so that Ishai buffs Tana and then Tana buffs Ishai. This will help create a ton of tokens from Tana and can help knock 1 or 2 players out.

Looks like a nice deck to play. I would add some number of recursions though, seems like the deck will have issues keeping up with the board if the game goes long enough against more control-ish decks. Obviously, Feather and Zada would be right at home here, monastery mentor looks pretty nice too here. As for protection, you can also try looking into veilstone amulet, repeatable protection piece which can be triggered with pretty much anything you cast.

Great video. I really enjoy when creators share they favorite decks and the reasoning behind them. But, I just need to point out that with 36 lands there is NOT a good chance to have 3 or more in opening hand, let alone at least 3 colors. Lately I am following Sam Black theory that we need more lands and less ramp spells and so far so good. And in a low curve deck like this one, that theory fits right in.

The deck’s cool but it’s got, unless im totally wrong correct me, 6 card draw spells (tavern brawler included) and 8 pieces of ramp. So statistically, even if you mulligan aggressively, it’s somewhat unlikely to CONSISTENTLY get ramp early or draw. So you’ll get your commanders out by turn 4, then the next either turn 5 or later depending on how you want to advance the board. In terms of interaction you can easily out value opponents bc of the cheap cost of the protection/combat tricks, but again bc there’s ramp and draw kinda missing it means if you don’t get them you’re super behind if they do happen to be destroyed/exiled/sacrificed. Overall looks fun to pilot, I would just add more of the ramp and draw.
@deckdriverMTG
@deckdriverMTG 5 ай бұрын
I've been experimenting with a few pieces that can draw more cards for sure, the ramp IMO doesn't need to have more than what it does because the mana curve is so low. I typically don't get stuck in terms of mana when playing the deck.
@jcstaff1007
@jcstaff1007 5 ай бұрын
@@deckdriverMTG i think you’re right. With more draw, you can hit land drops more consistently and bc the curve is low it won’t matter too much unless your stuff gets blown up. But you have enough mana and protection to generally avoid that. Farewell does screw you though if it gets past the counter magic.

This is exactly why I try to design on theme, if you just select the very best, most powerful possible options, it is going to look very similar to other decks. I feel that in this case though, these were chosen not just because they fit well with what the deck is trying to do, but because the deck builder enjoys these cards a lot. I'm not very familiar what cards are in meta or popular, but I think this deck idea, the design and the choices in specific are still original to me. The actual options for these 4 colors alone have a baffling amount of good cards to choose from. Not that un-original at all, ... at least that's what I think about it.

No disrespect about your favorite deck but...in what context does this deck perform well? I tested it and its good at having one good big swing which is great in a one v one! It reminds me of gruul prowess in standard(minus the prowess which would make way more sense for how you built it). However in a 4 pod i can't see this doing any better than a bright palm precon. Also in 4 colors what is blue doing for you? Blue brings remora (comfy casual), Archmage and whirlwind of thought. The latter two being some premium choices but with only two cards that care about casting instant and sorceries (non-creature) its a shame you don't have more talrand style cards. 4 counter spells is nice but it wont be a consistent strategy unless you commit to 6 slots. If the deck is casual why even run counter spells? How bout more combat tricks? Ok, land count is ridiculous. the whole point of having a low curve is to run less lands. go to thirty lands and add like 3 spells that draw and some big honkin' mana rocks like thran dynamo because this deck wants to play out a commander AND protect them in the same turn but gets bottle neck because of the lack of BIG ramp. Cut the bird and noble(these two guys are better for rushing a three color commander turn 2). TLDR: If you want to play 4th seat, do nothing all game, wait for the arche enemy to kill your other two opponents while you surprise them with a double strike, hexproof, trample (why is there so much trample in this deck lol the commander has trample) indestructible 12/12 commander then this deck is perfect!

Something I was surprised to see in your decklist was a lack of the Inspiring Leader background. Makes your saprolings 5/5s with partners (6/6 with Ravos)

Deck looks sick, except Hardened Scales is probably mid here, who gives a shit if he is getting 1 extra counter per spell? I'd probably cut it for something like Pick your Poison

It's literally a 1 mana double trigger on every sine spell cast. It's a really great piece

lol dude, you have a Naya deck that's being held back by blue, you literally only show counterspell and there's plenty of options that fit your gameplay that protect your pieces without having to add blue.

So on the plus side yes your new background on the video is good. Now to the bad news.. I think this video has almost no value to most players. I really like all your other videos. This one though it looks like just thrown together... no substance... where is the juice

I think offering up a deck that I really enjoy can at least give other players some ideas of decks they might want to play. I think talking about the ways in which the deck functions can showcase different play styles and card synergies that most players might not have thought of before. If deck tech videos had no purpose, then many MTG Channels would not exist

Uhh don't listen to this guy, I clicked on this video at random because I like seeing random deck techs. What a arrogant self centred comment with no value.

@@deckdriverMTGdirect reference to 'magnum opus'. Probably just calling out the hyperbole 🤷🏻 Fully here for pet deck parade though - it's the spirit of commander.
