The Declan Rice Dilemma

England are still unbeaten at the Euros but both their 1-0 win over Serbia and their 1-1 draw with Denmark were shaky performances. There’s more than enough blame to go around but after the second match, a lot of criticism seems to be targeted at Declan Rice for his poor performance in the midfield.
Is the criticism warranted? Or is Rice just the newest English scapegoat at the Euros?
Thanks for watching y’all

6:17 Excluding Jude btw. I didn’t really count him cuz I meant attackers who are SUPPOSED to be making runs consistently. Jude often does occasionally here and there and he’s elite at it

I don't think trent and rice won't necessarily work, its just the attack isn't suited to trent's skillset, he doesn't have salah and nunez to find

Trent at midfield is really good and the balance is good too with Rice Trent does the passing and Rice the defending it’s clearly good enough. You can say Trent is better at RB but still at midfield he has been the best England player so far

@@user-ny1sc1ys4o what about receiving ball under pressure and not losing it. Trent needs space to get his passes off and he cant do that in the midfield because his first touch lets him down, so he just loses the ball instead. We dont need trent in the medfield when we have kobbie and palmer who can can actual dictate the midfield, keep possesion of the ball, while being creative and taking risks

Kante cost £32M for being an elite ball winning midfielder Declan Rice cost £100M for being an elite ball winning midfielder and not even being better that Kante. When clubs buy players for lots of money the expectation is is do something out of the ordinary to justify that price tag like CR7 at Real Madrid for example. This is why most transfers that cost £70M+ fail cause most of those players shouldn’t cost that much. It sounds crazy to hear but Declan Rice is an updated Gareth Barry if those who watched him were able to watch him you’d understand what I mean and it’s no disrespect as Barry was a good midfielder for his time

When we talk about Declan Rice's £100M price tag, it’s important to remember that transfer fees have shot up over the years, so comparing his cost to Kante’s £32M isn't apples to apples. Rice brings more than just solid defense; he’s also a leader on the pitch and has a lot of room to grow, which adds to his value. Plus, there’s a premium on English players because of the league rules and their appeal, which bumps up the price. Comparing Rice to Gareth Barry isn’t a knock-it highlights that Rice, like Barry, does the essential but often overlooked work in midfield. His role is about fitting into the team's long-term plan, not just dazzling stats.

So many things wrong with this comment. Kante was fresh off an amazing campaign for Leicester and at the time they probably would bite your hand for 32M. Rice prior to his move to Arsenal was courted by most of the top clubs for a reason and even City were willing to go toe to toe with us for him. And you conveniently forgot to mention the numerous inflated transfers that happen in world football. Grealish,Antony, Maguire, Nicolas Pepe, Sancho just to name a few.We live in a world of inflated fees so I don’t think it’s fair to expect Rice to be something that he’s not and never showed potential to be. Nowadays 100 m doesn’t get you the entire package but it gets you a player who will solidify that midfield position for years. Saying Rice hasn’t done anything extraordinary in his first year at Arsenal is just wrong. Staying available for the entire season suffering only like two minor injuries is extraordinary and puts him ahead of Partey in my book, being able to contribute to attack in the pseudo 8 role, and obviously his ball winning abilities, his ability to get comfortable in a new environment with more expectations where others before him crumbled, his leadership, his set piece taking are all extraordinary feats that makes him one of our most important players. So yes, I would say he is absolutely worth 100m and a lot more.

@@Samsince04 you know Rice who’s known for his great ball winning ability wasn’t even close to what he was doing at West Ham. Check the statistics they don’t lie. asides from more accurate passes and slightly better goal scoring actions, he’s regressed in ball recoveries, defensively, possession ability and the likes. Honestly arsenal could’ve signed Amadou Onana and I can almost guarantee he would’ve done the same thing Rice did cause they’re both elite ball winning midfielders with above average passing. No disrespect to any of them I’m sure certain clubs need those type of players but they need more creative players beside them in order to fulfill their maximum ability. Yeah all those players you mentioned are overpriced and inflated but all of those players are from the PL which doesn’t support your argument well plus they all came from a club that everyone knows has not been running properly since 2018. The video is about how Declan is either a no.8 or no.6 and the argument I put out was the fact that he’s just a very good ball winning midfielder hence why he shouldn’t cost that much due to the fact a club can find one similar to him for less money. Also if £100M doesn’t get one the entire package why spend that kind of money on that particular player in the first place. Also elaborate on what Declan did that was extraordinary to justify that price tag cause staying fit for a whole season isn’t extraordinary Kilman played every minute for Wolves it’s not extraordinary that’s an extremely weak point. If you didn’t know Declan took set pieces at West Ham there were just better ones available. New environment? West Ham is in London? Yeah to a degree there’s more expectation but leadership elaborate on when Declan used leadership in a game for Arsenal. Do you know who’d cost £100M in defensive midfield who can also play in CM (or the other way round)? Camavinga, Tchouameni, Rodri, Pedri, Barella, etc. Overall you counter argument was

@@nabeel426 of course his defence stats will drop when plays for a team that keeps ball a lot better than West Ham
@nabeel426
@nabeel426 Ай бұрын
@@pep2trappy238 I disagree cause the drop off is significant. It’s the lowest he’s had since he completed a full season. That doesn’t exclude some of the other statistics he has. An example is Rodri. He had this passing season the most ball recoveries and has had some of the most for the past couple of seasons playing similarly to arsenal
