I was at a trade show building in Kansas City in the mid-90's, and there was a Scientology booth set up. One of the Scientologists approached me and tried to recruit me. I said that I wasn't interested. He tried again, asking me, "What it is you have a hard time doing?" To which I replied, "I have a hard time saying no to people." He said, "Well, we can help you with that." And again he tried to recruit me. To which I replied, "No." And then I said, "Wow! Scientology really does work! I'm cured!" And I walked off.. Good times with Scientologists... Good times. Cults are so dangerous. I ended up in a Christian cult called Set Free Ministries, and it did a number on me. I have so much compassion for people who have been through it.

@jasonmagel20693 жыл бұрын
Jenny , since you are sharing, what is it that Set Free Ministries offered that you felt it wasn't just another sham like Scientology.?
@yourcompassioncorner3 жыл бұрын
@@jasonmagel2069 Wow. Such a simple, yet good question, but the answer I am afraid, is not. So what did I think they would OFFER that would set them apart from a sham organization? I THOUGHT they would teach me HOW to care for the poor, the broken, the addicted.... I went to comfort a girl on my 2nd day. She was having withdrawals, and I put my hand on her back and just wanted to sit with her as she went through it. I was promptly condemned and made to go sit outside. Apparently comforting people was a no no. And by my second week, I was disenchanted and suicidal. I was a prisoner and I had nowhere to go. I had to stay and suck it up because I finally realized the real reason I was there was to bear witness to what they did and who they really were, and also, to NEVER run a discipleship program like they did. But , I went to Set Free to heal from extremely violent and terrifying spiritual abuse. I thought to myself, "I will be in the word all day for 3 months, with no other responsibilities. Surely I will be healed from the horrors I have experienced." Also, I thought they would help teach me spiritual disciplines, like praying and studying the word of God. Those are the reasons I went. I mean, aren't these the things you learn in a discipleship program? I couldn't have been more mislead and deceived by those touting it as a miracle. It would end up becoming my ground zero. The place where my faith disintegrated and fell, like a huge tower that had already been hit by two planes prior to my arrival. I believe that Christianity should first and foremost be demonstrated through our actions and how we care for and nurture others. I have no interest in cramming the bible down the throat of a broken person. Don't get me wrong. Certainly in a program like that it is expected that you would introduce them to the word of God. But not under a law which reaps punishment if not followed precisely. I thought I would learn how to demonstrate the love of Christ through my actions, in order to help and comfort others. Boy, was I wrong. The bible says in Matthew 5:3, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." It does NOT say, "Blessed are the poor in sprit, for they will be condemned, cut down, humiliated, and treated like a slave for the Set Free program." But, my dear Jason, that is what they did. They used the word of God to slice you and dice you, and by the time I left after just three months, I have found it almost impossible to sit and read scripture. I prayed for years, trying to understand why I didn't love the word of God when I had attended every bible study I could find, and was caring for the homeless in my home and going to church like 5 times a week. Finally, the answer came into my heart, but without judgment. Just in the form of knowledge. "They planted a seed of hatred for the Word of God in your heart." I was deeply saddened by this. I wanted to love the word so much. And I had no idea that while I was there, THAT is what they were doing. Also, I developed agoraphobia that I still struggle with today and I finally understood where I got that. From Set Free. You see, they FORCED you to sit outside, in the Cabazon desert, in January, February, ALL FRIGGIN DAY... "Programming," Going outside felt like going into a prison cell. You weren't allowed in the house unless you had to go to the bathroom. That was a nightmare in itself. You weren't allowed to flush your toilet paper down the toilet. All USED TP went into a 5 gallon bucket, which you had to empty each day in an open air garbage receptacle outside. They didn't even use bags in the buckets, so if the wind was blowing, TP covered in waste would fly all over the place. Lovely, right? I prayed for years trying to understand why I had developed agoraphobia. Finally, the answer came to me in the form of the memory of what it was like to be at Set Free, being FORCED under some law, to stay outside all day. I couldn't get near the front door without getting dizzy and having a panic attack. I couldn't even see a sunrise for years without getting sick to my stomach, because it was at sunrise when you realized your miserable fate, and then had to live with that the whole day. If you want to know more about how they operate, then go here: (They are the Introductory chapter.) www.reveal.org/development/Churches_that_Abuse.pdf This was written by a cult expert. While he outlines the program under different leadership than what I had, the model was still the same. It operated the same. And leadership was just as abusive. If I were to tell you the horrors I bore witness to, you would not believe me. I do not exaggerate, either. I had wanted to be in ministry since I was three. I adored the Lord. I knew Who He was, but I didn't know scripture. I thought it was just a guide book. I didn't know it had the power to actually transform us and lead us to salvation and help us fight our spiritual battles and heal us. I went to Set Free to learn more about that aspect and develop those disciplines. Over the years I had developed very deep empathy and compassion for people, with a strong desire to serve the church and individuals so they wouldn't have to carry their cross alone. I have been willing many times and have many times, taken a blow meant for other people. That is part of loving like Christ. But Set Free spiritually aborts you. They had ZERO use for me. I met people who had been in the program for YEARS, with no lives of their own. Waking up, volunteering at their thrift store for NO PAY, going back to their designated house, eating, studying, showering, going to bed, just to wake up and do it all over again. They had no value to leadership or the program other than that. And they lived like that day in and day out. For years. Some of the most wonderful people I met came from the streets and prisons, and they were treated like crap. I came from corporate america, and would have been able to teach them so many wonderful skills for getting jobs down the road. But in the end, I got kicked out because I refused to recite their "Statement of Faith." Every time I tried to, I felt sick, like I was lying, because it wasn't a statement of faith. It was a vow to God, but also, it was nothing more than rambling, verbal vomit. But they placed it under the "Statement of Faith, " banner. And it was a vow I couldn't make because you can't make a vow to God lightly. It didn't come from my heart or my desires. And even though I explained my reasons to them, they still kicked me out. I wasn't a trouble maker. I still have a fear that I will end up back there. I still experience triggers from being there. I will give them credit where credit is due. They taught us to memorize "The Armor of God," and the pastor was a gentle teacher. However, that is the only positive thing I can say about it. Or him. After I left, strangers would come up to me and pour out their stories of horror from Set Free and what happened to them at the program. People I had never met. They just saw me and would tell me everything that was grieving them. I can't even begin to tell you the number of people I met with horror stories. I hope I have answered your question. And I apologize for prattling. It just isn't something you can nutshell.

Personally I take comfort from the fact that greed is the motive behind joining the cult, and the cult exists to fleece them entirely! There is a beauty in this symmetry that does not exist in god-based religions. If future generations become more aware of what lies actually are,perhaps the race will survive.

Scientology doesn't lure in as many crazy people as one might think. The lure of Scientology is the social aspect. Friends lure in friends, lovers lure in lovers, and when one joins, everyone is excited to have you. It's not that there's something wrong with your judgment. It's the seduction of being part of something and fitting in with a community. Having a whole group of people who believe what you believe.

Information that every well educated adult should possess. Thank you! This is by far the best hour and thirty four minutes anyone could invest to hear the truth of the matter. You kept my interest until the end when other videos have me looking to see 'how much longer is this'?' You present facts, evidence and proof for everything you say. 👍 Well spoken, through & thought provoking content 👏👏👏 You've connected the dots for me on many gray areas and this is the best "missing link" anyone would need when looking at the church of Scientology. It completes the picture that Leah Remini's 'Aftermath' show could not fully address. She can only speak of her own life experiences. But you have done your homework. Next time, add in how you become involved in this cult to be so well versed on it. What motivates you to do this level of research? I was never sure what was what and how a person would die, from pneumonia, if they read words on paper & knew a secret. Now I know, now I get it!!! I have a much better understanding and a complete picture of how one documented liar and writer of science fiction set about to deceive people to pay for his lifestyle. The tomato picture is compelling evidence that LRH was also self deceived. IMHO, you have exceeded every other video on the topic and I feel like I just watched a TED event. It 'clearly' explains what I'm sure scientologists would like to ban from the internet. No Christian "church" has secrets they need to keep from the earth and their own parishioners. If you don't mind, I'll be linking many students of Christianity & humanity back to this one video. I am Gratefully Yours, MKA.

Charese: You are correct that the Scientology definition of squirrel is someone who is "doing something entirely different" and altering Scientology, which in practice is applied to anyone in the independent Scientology movement. Thanks for making a valid criticism.

Actually The Power of Source is amazing. I'm not a Scientologist and I whole heartedly wanna destroy them,but that is an amazing Jazz record. If you haven't heard it don't knock it. It has nothing to do with their beliefs. The drum solo is sweet. I can almost feel Xenu's 70's cop drams...Xenu! Space Cop!

Their headquarters in DC is beautiful. I've been there when I lived in DC when I was invited to learn about Scientology. Twas bullshit then, is bullshit now.
@Darrylizer19 жыл бұрын
***** I don't know about that. The Scientology headquarters in DC is in a very old and very fancy mansion on P Street just before Dupont Circle. I believe that was the founding church headquarters.

Spacey Tracey didn't so much take them on as hired millions of $ of lawyers and twisted the existing loopholes to show they could win. Any billionaire can get anything they want in N.america. trump.

calm like a bomb (1) Spending $ to hire attorneys IS taking them (the IRS) on. It's the very definition of "taking them on". And (2) why don't you ask Bernie Madoff or Martha Stewart if being mega-rich always keeps you out of jail?

My issues with Scientology are the following: (1) Pay to pray, the richer you are the "holier" thou art. (2) You only get access to what they want you to know, there is no way to see the higher level content until they deem you acceptable, I think that smart people are probably never acceptable. (3) First resort to anything is to sue, if that fails sue harder. (4) Tom Cruise........This reason is replicated in numbers (5) - (100).

Funny how Jim here hasn't read "going clear" and doesn't realize that that book and the film, really helped show to much more people the abuses of the church. But wonderful presentation. I have gone down the Scientology rabbit hole and North Korea and find so much similarities.

Jim - Point of information: The touch assist does not consist of "pointing at various areas and asking if it hurts" (I paraphrase you). It actually consists of touching the body extremities (toes and fingers) alternating from one side of the body to the corresponding other side. The idea is that injuries can become locked in if the synapses run out of acetyl choline (it happens if the input is severe enough). The subsequent touch impulses left-right left-right travel via the sympathetic nervous system and can re-establish the synaptic connections, thereby releasing the injury. I speak from cloudy memory (!) but the assists generally work very beneficially.

Those who joined this cult....why? I mean what are they thinking? Also those in the Sea.Org...how can ordinary people tell which one is a real Navy personnel over the Sea. Org members when they wear the exact, if not close to identical uniform...isn't that dangerous? Islam and Scientology.....hmmm

People do this on a small scale all the time. I've known plenty of people that have become clergy and then purchased properties, including their own homes, and used it for tax exempt status. I don't know how they get away with it, but it happens everywhere. Time to crack down on religion and make it EXTREMELY difficult to get exempt status for anyone or any business, especially religious institutions
@SunRabbit4 жыл бұрын
That's actually a great idea, but twisted the other way around. Someone should start a church called Bullshitology and have it so that every member is automatically "clergy," and then not have to pay property tax on their own homes, and possibly even incomes. I suppose anyone could just make up a religion and do this on their own but the cost of hiring a lawyer to file all the paperwork and licensing fees might be prohibitive for a lot of people but THEN AGAIN when you figure how much you've already paid in taxes, it's probably worth it.

I live in Hemet, and have driven down the road where Scientology is located. There is a fence surrounding the property on both sides of the road. I don't know about razors on top of the fences. A few years ago, Scientology wanted the road closed where it divided it's property that is located on both sides of the road. This was not done. This would have been an inconvenience for local residents.
