The overall visual of deepwoken as a whole starting from this grungy game with dark themes and lore to essentially just a anime battlegrounds game with more steps is really saddening to me and something ive been noticing are cared alot about. I really had hope that deepwoken could fulfill the role of a almost berserk like game on roblox that feels deep and heavy when it needs to but seeing the way the game has shifted over the past year has totally reversed that hope.

It really does feel like im playing some battlegrounds game/anime game and i even forget about the consequences for losing a fight because i always ask myself how do they accept these brainrot mantras that dont even seem to even fit the game's style get into the game (like flame turret or the new ironsing mantra for example)

Depends on how you play the game tbh. The game still isnt a PVP shitshow for me. Been playing alot of Deepbound and slowly exploring the game, hell i joined up start of 2023 and even now i havent done a single floor 2 run or primadon. Im making fun builds and just general fun stuff, not gonna let sweats or hardcore pvp ruin my expierence.

True, the biggest thing that makes the game more and more like this, is the weeklys! Every week, some new legendary weapon or some random dungeon, that is in the middle of nowhere, which will either, give you every item in the game in 2 minutes or give you absolutely nothing. They should imo stop with the weekly updates and focus on finishing conquest so there is actual fresh new content and bringing out a huge rebalance with it. The one that came out in this update, is not even really a rebalance, it's mostly just lvl cap adjustments that nobody really cares about.

like he said, the game has gotten to a point where the devs are backed into a corner. they don't have any choice but to continue adding new broken shit; new armors, new weapons with 15 crits, new abilities that'll bring you from full health to a quarter in 2 seconds. the game used to be difficult. we used to fear the depths because if we died there, our entire build was gone, and it was hard to get it back. now if you die - IF you die. emphasis on if, it'll take prob 30 mins to get your entire build back. but the devs don't have a choice anymore. and there's nothing they can do that'll bring this game back. a mass balancing update, reverting it back to a build when it was actually fun. they can't do anything. and it's not just this game either. there are other examples : ABA, Shinobi life 2, etc. if they go back to a point where the game was fun, the game is fucked, because like he said, the only thing the new players know is the broken shit they have now. if the game becomes balanced, it's no longer fun, and they stop playing. so the game dies.

type soul is a very good example of what you've talked about here and this is coming from a day 1 type soul player, the game went from skill expression to spamming big colorful moves and it's super unenjoyable it went from skill expression with a little bit of players (not nearly as many as recently) to catering to kids with big abilities and even less brain usage to back it

i miss the game having hard requirements too. like seeing a bankai back when it was really hard to get. the game really did decline when they decided to make requirements easier, meaning that it wasnt hard to get a hold of broken things. game went from fun community/faction based game to battlegrounds vibrant colors bright lights that require little to no brainpower.

Used to love playing deep. That dark, rouge, theme that used to have it back in the day, were wiping truly felt scary, going to the depths actually felt like a threat, fighting the enforcer while your hands was either shaking or sweating or maybe both, all that hard mode that they promised us when deep as in development. Just to be reduced to some mmorpg, i get that money is money, but dam deepwoken wouldve been in a higher ceiling if they just stuck to what they had promised to older players a long time ago.

This is why I think Voidsea expeditions is so important if deep wants to stay relevant. It’s main appeal is the mystery and exploration. You dont need crazy overpowered loot as incentive, just some niche but different stuff as a nice bonus. It lets the deep devs keep their game relevant and support weekly updates by adding new islands instead of powercreep weapons. This could be what Layer 2 wasnt - not getting trivialized because it isnt designed to be replayed to death, while still keeping the v1 atmosphere. Sure it wont become the next prog stage, but what’s more important - a fulfilling experience or a long one?

I remeber starting out deepwoken in early august of 2022 with my guild leader when I was still in middle school. Few hours later, we saw a guy running a crypt blade and our ultimate goal was to get one and equip it. Now, that same guy sold a spare Crypt for notes js to buy food because he was starving. This game got way to easy.

Any game gets easier the older it gets, as the players give each other the easy method of everything - instead of finding them out yourself. That's what the game needs to improve on, reward players for discovering things on their own. Back to your point, after playing for a long time, things should and will just become more accessible. The game never changed, you guys changed. For reference, me and my friend were happy about being gifted a Crypt Blade a few months ago, now its nothing. That's just how every game is.

I've been saying this for AGES with my friends, I wish the devs would get out this "weapon of the week" mindset, where every weekly for months has basically just been "Last weeks weapon nerfed, new legendary weapon" or "New mantra, nerfed old mantras for no reason". The game has gone from (for the most part) "Make your own build, fuck around and find out with people, go ganking at random places, meet new people!" to "There's this new talent/mantra/weapon, if you don't use it, you're objectively weaker because everyone else IS using it"

Man I remeber where I had I had to beg for the rng gods to give me adept while sitting at max luck before power 10 or else everything would be a pain to farm up and then never getting that talents I wanted. It was hell but I loved it, it was tough and rewarding. I even bought exploits to speed around just to shave off time with progressing so I could have a stable sleep schedule and if I got strong lefted into the void(yes I didn’t fly away from that, 1. That ruined it for me and the other dude for the funny moment, 2. It would’ve been stupid, 3. If I was sitting next to the edge and didn’t notice a guy sneaking up to me that’s my fault, I should suck it up) I was upset for a bit but moved on(except for you my beloved, Nova Talo, my first max level) now you just level up to max in 2-4 hours then min max and your done, maybe go jumping in depths to get the same adrenaline as the past but with people jumping into the void or going the speed of light away from ya. Eh, least it isn’t figuring out how to get out of the shroom spawn area for the first time

As someone who only really started playing in Verse 2, (i played verse 1 but I had no clue wtf I was doing and quit), I would still love to see them go back to how it was. I don't agree with the game needing all this crazy stuff to keep kids playing, I wish they'd remove most of it. I don't want actual verse 1 back, but they can just go back to it while fixing the problems with the 3 years of experience they now have with making the game

As someone who played in early verse one up to around a year and a half ago, when the combat slowly got more and more just do 5 bars in one combo. The game in early verse one was great because it was all in the skill and the game was still shrouded in mystery. Its sad to watch the game slowly die like this, but I rarely play anymore, when I did for a week a few months ago it was somewhat fun but the combat wasn’t fun to engage in.

I agree with you on a lot, but like... I don't really want the game to be like Rogue Lineage. I don't LIKE Rouge Lineage. Sure, it's creative and all, but I don't like big skill walls I have to climb to do anything interesting. I wanna DO the interesting stuff without spending 45151232349 hours grinding for the item, and without dying 324262 times just to make the build. I like MOST of the game right now. It's hard enough for me. Yeah, I would much rather all the mantras be balanced, and all that pvp jazz, but progression doesn't really HAVE to be hard? Like, I don't find dying 12 times to get the right build very fun.

While I agree with the vibes being lost (which is genuinely a shame and the reason why i started playing deepwoken in the first place), the 'over the top' mantras are usually the less viable options (no flame build DOESN'T run fire blade, no gale build DOESN'T run gale lunge) and are kinda specific in usage (for example, flame ballista). I heavily agree with the item rarity, though. Seeing someone who can't find their F-key run around with a pyre keeper is really what screws up the vibes for me, personally. It should feel similar to OSRS with the way megarares work imo.

i think in a good sense, and what i believe they kind of tried to do with layer 2 enchants when those first dropped, would be after all the nerfs, and all the shit that was crazy, to bring it down. and im talking in rarity sense. legendary weapons that currently exist? bring them down to high-tier base weapons like alloyed or any endgame. quest weapons shouldnt be qualified as a legendary unless the quest is hard, which none of them are right now. in conquest? best way to fix that is to bring them down to regular weapons, and have the NEW ones be rare, someting to grind for that isnt TOO overpowered, but has value to act as a form of trophy almost, and make your build unique because it is harder to obtain. the same with armors that could add new talents, like what the TRIED to do with deepspindle. these things that add a unique gameplay experience without fully breaking the game in terms of balancing would help bring back some of that old feel, but it wouldnt fix the problems with the balancing unless the devs also focus on that.

To Date this issue’s start. I started playing deepwoken in december of 2023. I HATED EVERYTHING, I died constantly to overworld bandits, Voidwalkers were the bane of my existence, I learned to fight sharkos before I learned to fight bandits, because me and my friend would sit and cheese sharkos in Vipers Jaw. But I couldnt put it down, taking 3 days, full ass days, to get to high power then wiping in the depths? That somehow, was when I had the most addicting experience with deepwoken. Its not there. Ive said before how we should have gotten conquest by now, but in reality we just need more overworld in general, the voidsea eating everything as a lore explanation will only last so long. Deepwoken also has a problem with assuming everyone can make it to layer 2, and locks a shitload of content behind it. And instead of Layer 2 being a dungeon like it once was, or just finally turning it into a place to explore, it is a annoyingly difficult piece of shit where everything has animations that dont sync with parry timing for artificial difficulty. Bounders arent difficult for you because you arent skilled enough, Bounders are difficult because their animations are slower than their expected parry timing, they do massive damage, and half their moves are unblockable, cheese builds dont have anything on layer 2 monsters, which need a fucking rework. To drive the layer 2 point: Monster mantras, which are pretty much ass except for the dread serpent beam (which I have never seen anyone equipping), are locked behind: -Bonekeeper -labyrinth to get the spear -15 bounders in nest corridor -some of the shittiest falling floor parkour -3 to 5 more bonekeepers -chaser -kyrsguard -a labyrinth -Ethiron -More Kyrsguards -2 minute escape timer It is ridiculous for mantras that arent worth on any build, they are so cool, so fun, but nobody can reach them. A second example is the new Ignition union origin, and by extension arcwarder: -bonekeeper -the spear -nest corridor -enforcer (unless you are a sicko doing layer 2 at level 13) - bunch of annoying travel time (ships got updated, but are still slow as hell to incentivize the ironclad) I WANT to play the new content, I WANT to enjoy the game. But there are so many useless, annoying, and UNFUN WALLS TO DO SO. And on flashy Mantras, lets be real, Permafrost prison should always have been a bell, with the shadow aesthetic and ether steal being a corrupted version. Referencing JJK is fine, but when you buff it out the ass because you’re fanboying, it gets to be alot. There is also a huge amount of the community who cannot take it when they dont get what they want in an update. (Looking at you Punchee) and complain when a niche playstyle gets an update (the new attunementless spear, which for anyone who plays attunementless IS NOT EXPENSIVE TO INVEST IN) I watched not only Punchee, but multiple other people cry that they cant have the double damage spear unless they uncap their strength and fortitude. There was one guy crying about it in the discord for A FULL HALF HOUR, and Im still getting whining comments when I said it wasnt that bad on Punchee’s update video. The Deepwoken Devs. And the Deepwoken community. Have a huge problem with over-flexibility, and overestimating people. When I first joined this game, my major skill issue was parrying, because my eyes lag behind my brain and I was always a beat off. I had to learn to parry off of rhythm, like it was music. This becomes a problem however when it comes to anything outside of the overworld, enforcers feinting, squibbos feinting, bounders and carbuncles just having slower animations than their parry timing. It all amounts to a massive wall for a lot of people, locking the new content behind hours of grind. Deepwoken was fun because there was NO GRIND. Playing the game was an adventure, a real adventure where you grew as you played, and learned as you explored. When I look at this game now. As someone who nearly always picks diver origin. The most fun I have now after the fucking grind in the depths, is on the surface. And the surface is what gets updated the least, the most fun part of the game gets the least attention. Deepwoken isnt dying. Deepwoken is just sick, its a sickness of flashiness and artificial-difficulty, and its letting in other sicknesses while its weak. Half the people who join for the flashiness wont stay, and only half of those people will return to try again, and only half of a half of the half will find the love for it. We just need to wait out this storm. Flashiness is unsustainable, and it will end eventually.

im ngl this is kinda yap. layer 2 isnt difficult, it can be done on any build and the game can be played EXTREMELY quicker than before. it takes me an average of 3 hours to max a build with bell. also saying current deep is more grindy when the hunt for enchants and deep gems were very rare. the game cant cater to you because you cant do layer 2, locking content behind dungeons isnt a new concept to games.

i agree deepwoken needs a major fix to balancing and a return to its previous state combat wise, but let the flashiness stay (to an acceptable degree), deepwoken is a bespoke game and thus deserves bespoke vfx, not bummy vfx little johnny can replicate on his first day of roblox studio (some may call early deep vfx minimalist, but i dont see that 'minimalism' as charming or unique at all, some may question me calling early deep vfx bad, but that just goes to show the improvement the devs have made) but thats just me, express your disagreement down below if you wish

Deepwoken lost its vision a long time ago, I bought it for a rogue like experience but ultimately ended up with a shit storm of mantra spam and anime corssovers. I played since day 1 but quit right after I saw it was just going in a weird direction that the devs didnt promise it to be and that was the best decision ive made.

I think weekly updates are a mistake. I think the devs need much time to work on their product instead of being time pressured. Weekly update is too much to ask for, it's just out of nowehere and sometimes can result into a rushed mess. I can definitely see the devs are struggling to handle the game at this point.

his point of build is all that matters only applies if you suck LOL i thought it was wrong but i wanted to make sure, i made an attless heavy (not allowed to use punishment, table flip, or skyshatter) with 90 charisma (not vshapper) with 0 vit and no equipment with starter armor (i had 365 hp, 10% phys, 0% elem) and while yes it was harder (obv), i still got higher elo than 99% of the people who say build is the only thing that matters, and in ganks while yes i did worse, i still got on average 3 kills per death

pretty sure the decline of deepwoken began when they just decided to rework the entire game for no reason in 2020 then as a result instead of getting the "rogue lineage 2" they were trying to make it into shit just came out as a modernized dumpster fire with a slightly different objective being "go grind npcs, go make hyper specific build(emphasis on this with shrine of order) wipe and repeat" if i had to comment on why deepwoken pvp feels boring even though realistically it's the embodiment of perfect it's probably the m1s and crits feeling like filler options rather than actual threats

Honestly I see what you saying but there is some things I disagree with (i have been around from rogue lineage days), its not that verse 1 was more skilled based but just everyone was forced to use shitty luck system and couldnt reroll anything so you can just be boss raided by a guy who simply got really lucky, and in my opinion deepwoken would be better without having to grind hours just for one thing. I think that deep's stringest aspec is being able to make any build you want, like take agility for example, if you wanna be a fast ass bitch with gale you can and just zip around at the cost of your build being weak if agility is your focus, if I want to use intelligence take saltchemist and bombs. It is unfortunate that you dont really have oaths and talents that highlight your stats, its just combat combat combat, and what do the devs do? They nerf EVERYTHING that doesnt fit this hyperspecific combat style (there is some stuff that does need nerfs though just not all) instead of giving the players more options to combat these. I thought that it was cool that in ganks these guilds would start to bring gale builds around to stop trackstars. I want to see fortitude builds being able to be tanky at the expensive of not having some of these high damage talents you would get otherwise by also having some str or other stats in. If someone really wanted to go 100 str 100 fort 100 weapon I think they SHOULD be able to do that to play this sort of juggernaunt build that is purely good at close combat and horrible at basically everything else (slow because no agility cant really fight in range without using guns) and in terms of art yeah I think it sucks that the game looks like anime slop now, how cool would it be to have a more gritty world where you slowly (more slower than current progression but not anything near verse 1 cus that shit sucked) become powerful and do have access to some sort of ultimate moves or even your base ones looking like they hurt more, hell even a story mode that has verse 1 level progression but theres densely packed things you can do.

It feels like the whole “make whatever build you want” is slowly crumbling due to meta PvP talents etc, If I wanted to make a 100 weapon 100 fort 100 str build unfortunately that isn’t going to compare to some shrine of order, every PvP talent under the sun, shadow cast user that can do 3 bars with a mantra. It just seems like we’re forced into making the same type of builds rn idk just my opinion.

the game's artstyle declined alot since verse 2 released, now everyone is a glowstick or an eyesore, i think nerfing every attunement until they are all equal or some attunements are stronger than others (rock, paper, scissors type of thing) and reworking all of the big bright mantras added in the weeklies so they all feel like they belong in deepwoken and not just in an anime slop game, like when they added sukuna's fuga it just felt so utterly lazy from the devs.

all these crazy mantras and crazy weapons are just helping people with skill issue, without skill issue mantras and such wouldnt matter at all, they are even inferior in this case, if youre good enough at the game all that matters is m1 parry dodge, there comes a point where no one has tempo nor ether and their builds are useless compared to those with attuenmetless/shadowcast builds. The better you are the more you realize that shadowcast and attuenmentless are on top

This honestly makes me sad, deepwoken used to be so fun back when it released. Its unique dark theme grungy game as well as the lore was all so interesting. Now it's just another anime battleground game, every new update only ever benefits the kids obsessed with pvp, and it's all about who has the better build. Can't play without getting jumped in depths by someone with some invincible meta cheese build now. Nothing but slop
