I'm a little late to this because I didn't want to play until I had the full game but a touch in chapter one that I absolutely loved was in Shinra Manor when Sephiroth's explaining to Cloud how he was created and he's slowly losing his mind you can hear a very subtle version of One Winged Angel (Sephiroth's boss theme) playing in the background on what sounds like just a single violin.

57:06 Hi Ben you're correct! As someone who does music, I've been going crazy listening to that new heroic Sephiroth theme. The original is in D minor and this time it's in D major. Although to make it bombastic all the bass notes are changing otherwise it wouldn't sound as cool. Those notes you can sing along to are the same, just the chords putting it in a different context. First thing I did after playing the demo was figure out those chords on the piano! Cannot wait for the full soundtrack. Also if anyone want the chords: D Ab/ C Bb / F# D F / C Ab D Ab / C F# D

It's extremely reasonable to believe in-universe that shinra workers would have marked the safest ways up the mountain considering it is dangerous and that there's a couple maintenance facilities on the way up. At one point in time, it's not hard to think there would be people constantly going back up or down. Pretty easy to conclude IMO. I don't understand how the yellow climbing markers bothers so many people either. You'd think seeing guys flying around with giant swords with magic abound and numbers flying onscreen would be "immersion breaking" enough, but we're just nitpicking about really small things, and claiming it's ruining our immersion. Feels really spoiled.

I think something a lot of people are overlooking about the yellow paint stuff is that we're about to jump into a big ol' open world. We'll be sprinting past lots of cliff faces, and I imagine the developers wanted to come up as obvious a way as possible of shouting "STOP! YOU CAN CLIMB THAT!" This mission just felt like it was introducing us to the concept of a climbable wall and what to look out for.

it makes me happy that they didn’t figure out you can use both hands to push the mako vacuum by using L2 and R2, which makes walking with it very fast. in a game full of excellent content, a few goofy moments like this become notorious and i love it

The story and cutscenes are incredible and will definitely pull me along to the end. I can't wait!!! I need to relearn the battle system because I'm sure it's better than Remake and that was also one of my favorite parts. But oooh boy I laughed when they brought up the Mako vacuum as a most common comment. When I was doing it in game I just thought this is ridiculous. It's not fun. It's tedious and a pain in the ass and made me nervous for other small dumb stuff the game will throw at us in the future. I have a VERY high tolerance for slow walk and talk stuff. I know that bothers people but I get immersed in the game and slow walk even when I have full control. The Mako vacuum was so annoying and I hope that's as bad as it gets in the game but listening to Jacob on the main podcast I'm a little nervous. Anyways, No getting off of this train!!

Happy to have you guys back continuing the story of FF7. I have listened/watched the last one multiple times and used it to refresh myself on topics for rebirth. I got my girlfriend hooked on this game too because i showed her all of remake and now she insists that i only play rebirth with her now lol. Playing through clouds past was a delight and i was gushing about how i was enjoying the back and forth between cloud and sephiroth and just how tall he seemed.

There were two subtle moments/changes from OG that I think were deliberate but created amusing pseudo plot holes for me: 1. I get the feeling the line where Tifa's dad worries about her being the guide because "remember what happened to her last time?" was a reference to Tifa's accident in another flashback later on about her mom dying. But there's no way the last time she climbed the mountain was as a 13 year old (before the well flashback in Remake), yet she somehow knows the mountain well enough and has enough experience to be a guide for it. It would make more sense if she became familiar with the mountain during the two years between those flashbacks. 2. Regarding Sephiroth reading the books in the basement, in the original, after he's finished reading everything, he has all this new knowledge about the origins of the Ancients/humans and the calamity from the skies. They cut this in Rebirth, I assume to be less unnecessarily exposition-y (it gets covered later on anyways). However, the unfortunate effect of this is that it ends up feeling like Sephiroth read one paragraph from a book with one piece of information, then spends weeks in the library reading more, and the next time you see him, still seems to be reading the same page and more or less still only knows that same one piece of information (as if it took him that look just to confirm what he already suspected). It also makes him burning the town, in the moment, feel like a hissyfit without a reason, because he didn't mention that he blames humans yet (although I suspect he'll give the reasons in the next scene after the demo ends).

A fun fact about the fabled orthopaedic underwear. Okay this is only half-remembered so I'll prob screw up nuance and fine details Tim Rogers, when he was still at Kotaku, did a series of videos covering the translation of the original game and when he got to the Flashback he pointed out the original Japanese wording was something to saying clothing to make you look more mature, with the implication of it being sexy and grown up but the overworked translator (cos one guy did everything without being given context) took the mature part too far and went for old lady panties lol
