This video was beautiful! The amount of effort and research put into this is insane and much appreciated! Newfound respect for the mangaka and even further respect for those still struggling to grasp success in the industry. Starting to notice that now more than ever, manga tends to be influenced not only by outside forces but a culmination of past works as well. But even if you have a huge backlog, it still takes a mountain of effort to create that golden goose.

Deadass binged the entire thing in one day when I first sat down to read it, but I could never understand what about it made me love it and enjoy it so much. I thought it was the emotions humanity of the characters and the interactions between everything in the story that made it so emotionally captivating and interesting, but your video has honestly proved to me how much deeper it is than just that. I think its given me an explanation for why I love this manga so much as well as opened up an entire universe of new reasons and perspectives to the greatness of Dandadan and I am so damn sincerely grateful or it. I feel like st. Germain will be the foil to the theme of the importance of normality. He is on some 500 year quest for ultimate knowledge and as a result he has become distant and cold and doesn’t know how to talk to others. It would also tie into his speech about metronomes and how you eventually become in synch with the environment you surround yourself with.

17:16 you know I also can't help but imagine that Tatsu would in some way see Fujimoto and himself as Momo(or maybe Jiji) and Okarun. Momo once she got her powers she basically carried the first couple of fights, thought on her feet and came up with a solution. Okarun AT FIRST was great support, but had to work HARD and I mean HARD to be able to use his powers effectively, and even then had some limitations. Eventually he became strong enough to take on 5 of the space globalists himself. And if we were to take it even further, the evil eye being a publishing company, threatening to cancel the series if he didn't improve enough himself even with what he currently has. When reading Dandadan it's wild to think that Tatsu even struggled at some point, the way his characters are written, the paneling the shading is just so seemingly naturally well done. I've never gotten reading fatigue from his manga, and I've seen many people claiming to have caught up to the manga right after finishing the show. His art is just so insanely good that I can't help but wonder like what happened? Maybe he was missing the necessary tools on his story telling toolbelt to tell a story that is gripping enough. Maybe despite his insane talent for drawing he needed another oomph to keep going.

For me, Vamola's story is the one im looking forward to, and just typing her name already brings a tear to my eye. The only thing I'm afraid of is that these arcs with tragedy over the battles could become repetitive in the long run. I hope that Tatsu is a fan of Bakuman and it's message, and he can end this series on a natural conclusion, instead of extending it just because Shounen Jump wants to make money of the franchise as long as it can (ex.Naruto, Bleach and One Piece).

After watching/listening to this, i have to say that i disagree about your “the point is normalcy” The point is connections, and found family. Much of the manga spends it’s time in okarun’s and momo’s mind overthinking their role and participation in the friendship/budding romance. The entirety of this series is about finding your place. Okarun is the dork until he makes friends, ojiro isthe handsome weirdo until he has friends, momo is the weird spirit girl who is into old movies until she has friends, aira is the ditzy hyper popular girl until she has friends. The delinquent becomes more than a delinquent when he obtains friends. Even the ghosts cannot move on or bond with others until they are emotionally seen. The entirety of the plot is built around what is seen vs what is actually present within the person
