Those underwater sylvaneth from the kelp forests appeared originally in the short story From the Deep by Jaine Fenn, which is about the part they played in the War of Life back in the realmgate wars. I'd definitely recommend checking it out! Court of the Blind King also touches on Idoneth and Sylvaneth working together in Ghyran, and is just a fantastic novel to boot

In regards to the deep sea: its actually not nutrient poor, quite the contrary. Wherever deep sea water reaches the surface life explodes due to the nutrients the deep sea water provides. However the deep sea is poor in producers due to the lack of sunlight. Producers like algae and plants form the bases of every ecosystem and turn nutrients and energy into biomolecules. These are then consumed and broken down by primary consumers (e.g. plant eaters) and secondary consumers (predators). But producers need to take in energy from external sources. Sunlight is the best energy source for this. But the deep sea lacks sunlight. There are geothermal vents whose hot-chemical rich water is used by bacteria to produce biomolecules. But these oasis' are few and far in between on the large sea floor. Thus most deep sea creatures must scavenge what drops down from the surface, breaking it down until no sustaince can be gained anymore. Still the nutrients, e.g. essential elements, are still abundant there as leftovers of these droppings. But they are so broken down that no consumer can use them anymore.

I think there is a novel about this... The court of the blind king? It's set in Ghyran, the Idoneth fights Nurgle with the everqueens forces.

Good book, very good at building atmosphere for the idoneth

Cool to see the old battalion that was called allegiance of earth and sea (I think?), from the old book surviving in lore, if not in the rules.

Keep up the good work! I love the lore for the Idoneth. I've never been much of an elf fan but I like how diffrent they are. Don't really want an army but I do want to put a warcry crew together for them.

You’re right! A scene where a branchwych and akhelian king are having a bonding moment while taking on a great unclean one or demon prince of nurgle and both are wondering “why won’t it go down already “

Kind of the story in the Blind King at one point, if I remember.

This is a cool bit of lore. When you mentioned Alarielle being a bit less involved since the realmgate wars, it made me remember the interaction she had with Teclis during the broken realms Teclis book. She eluded to the forces of life preparing for something and building their strength. Any guesses on what this could be eluding to or theories?

I've noticed a common theme in AOS,the use of over exaggerated and extravagant head dresses.

Lol that's literally warhammer in general. Angry faces with big ornate head dresses.

Might be a daft question but is Prince Lurien from 'Court of The Blind King' canon? I have not seen a mention of him in the new battletome. I am painting a Briomdar army so would love a model of him!

Is the new book a must? Is there a lot of lore update? I love the deepkin, they are my army. My only complaint is that we only got one model with the new book. I wish that we have gotten a Coralmancyer a new Akhilen unit and new Narmarti unit. The Akhilean unit could have been a Kraken or giant squid monster, and for the narmarti just a pole arm and shield unit. Idk there is so much vary of life in the sea and it doesn’t feel like the deepkin are using it all wisely
