A Dark Oath Or Death - Slaves to Darkness Lore

Today we are talking about the lore of the Darkoath units from the Slaves to Darkness faction. This is all from their 4th edition battletome, but I plan to expand it more into Gunnar Brand later. I like them! I don't know how they'll do as an "all darkoath" army, but I enjoy what I see.

Imagine doing a Darkoath tribe that worships the Great Horned Rat. They could use some Skaven pieces for conversion ideas. They could either revere rats, or hunt them for pelts and tails, seeing them as sacred and empowering artefacts.

We actually see one in the beginning of the Darkoath novel. Gunnar Brand quickly exterminates them, because after what the Skaven did he's really disgusted by anyone willing to side with them to survive.

I’m currently working on my Spearhead and the idea I have going on is that they are a small tribe that worships Malal. The Wilderfiend being a manifestation of Malal( but with the new context of what they actually are it’ll probably be a previous Doomed One from my tribe.) It’s members having used to worship the other gods until they were scorned, many used to worship Nurgle previously until he stopped blessing them. Now under the Renegade God they prominently fight forces of chaos, and when they’re not fighting chaos they’re fighting Orks near their marshlands That’s at least what I got so far other then more stuff I developed for my Sons of Malal (STD Spearhead.)

Honestly I'd love a concept of multiple tribes coming together to form a larger one. So post the fall of the realms rivals became friends with the need to survive. So I'd love for the grandchildren of the founders to have all this weird tranditions like all tribal choices must be made in a boat even if its on land or the chieftain can only use this bone club as his weapon etc etc.

So, to answer your last question: I’m working on it. You actually mentioned in your video one aspect of my Darkoath tribe. Now, I’m only doing a spearhead of them as I enjoy that mode more and it allows me the flexibility to have multiple armies cheaper with less real estate. My next box is going to be Darkoath and I was thinking that one of their deities would be Nagash but by the name Dhruus. In my mind, they honor their dead by honoring their bones. One aspect is they creat a grand ossuary (think Sedlec ossuary) as a central point of each of their tribe’s locations. They pray the great Dhruus to breathe new life into their ancestors bones. And hope one day their dead can return to them and fight in battle along side them. They revere their dead. Especially those fallen in battle. They also have priests that tend to the dead (and sorcerers) and often contract disease, so in their pantheon, they pray to Father Malaysse (Nurgle) to give them strength and power the dead and help the dead have a rebirth and purpose. They channel the decay of their warriors and ancestors into power to fight their enemies. I have two boxes of Warcry Rotmire Creed I plan on working into the range and using bones of old an old skeleton regiment kit from WFB as add-ons and accessories or to the bases. I plan on replacing the war queen in the spearhead with the head rotmire creed miniature. If I were to take it to a full army, I’d use a modified Beast of Nurgle (with the belly mouth filled in) as the Wilderfiend. I loved the idea of all the various chaos tribes from Warcry and having recently looked into Sedluc ossuary, something clicked. So a themed Darkoath warband (spearhead) is my next project.

If you're gonna do a video about the Brands you have to check out Monsters, an episode of Hammer and Bolter on Warhammer+. Its basically Gunnar Brand's origin story and is very important for his character in the Darkoath novel.

As someone with an indigenous heritage your comment on how large the tribe in Texas was got me wondering about the Mi'kmaq in eastern Canada (the tribe my ancestors came from), they are estimated to have nearly 10,000 members pre-colonization. However, the largest in North America was the Navajo with an estimated 400,000 members over 25,000 square miles 😯. And that confined to our real world history, now extrapolate that into AoS.. the largest tribes probably number in the millions and span entire continents

I have a question about AoS lore. It sounds kinda combative but I figured if anyone would have a good-faith answer it’d be this dude and his boys. …Why should I care about anything? The Stormcast are functionally immortal and have zero death consequences at the meta level. I know their souls are supposed to be like eaten by Nagash a little, but that doesn’t really matter. Their actions aren’t changed by this, they’re still just gonna fight, even if they become part of the recluse chamber or whatever it’s called. The death company equivalent. Is there a limit on how many times they can die, or are they literally just constantly respawning with functionally zero consequences. If the realms are functionally infinite, and therefore the population is functionally infinite, why should I care if/when crusades fail or people die. Why does any one city matter more than any other city. Presuming the realms are infinite, they could just go somewhere else, especially if the geography of the realms is nebulous and ill-defined in the meta sense. Why should I care if Hammerhall explodes or gets eaten by rats or whatever if it’s location is only nominally important? People could just go somewhere else, the geography is functionally irrelevant. TL:DR Given that so much of the worldbuilding seems to be that nobody can meaningfully die and the realms are so vast, why do individual people matter, or individual places? If there are infinite resources across the planes, why do people fight? Purely ideological reasons?

I converted a lot of my dark with my spare Karic Acolyte bits making Tzeentchian like as the weapons and heads fit perfectly though the weapons do need a small amount of hand trimming
