Okay I just want to put my 2 cents in on the scene after this is sense because the comments got disabled for that video. To me it wasn't coming off as white privilege. Luke is basically saying that Danny had power the day he was born because he comes from a rich family and doesn't no what its like to struggle for survival. Doesn't me the crimes said kid did excusable, but it was understandable. Plus I don't remember him saying anything about WHITE privilege during the confrontation. Look at Jessica and Matt, their white and not exactly well off, especially Jessica. So all I'm saying is that Luke is taking about privilege not race in that scene.
@firetopman6 жыл бұрын
Oh, they're not going to come right out and *say* "white" privilege, but they are going to directly use the arguments *for* white privilege. Black man scolds white man for fighting black criminal because he doesn't understand where black criminal comes from. This is EXACTLY how white privilege is argued today, Luke even goes so far to try and defend the criminal behavior because it was done in the name of family.

@@1eyeddevil929 Everything I've seen of Danny in both the Defenders and his own series shows me Danny is an entitled prick. He acts like he "earned" his powers but he acts instead like a child. He uses his skills and power to pursue his own vendetta against the Hand. He wasn't even interested in fighting the Hand until they made it personal. Despite all his training, Danny is still a spoiled brat and acts like it. Luke has been fighting for his community since he got those powers. He may not have acquired them through training like Danny did but he earned them. Danny has just been fighting for himself. And you say Luke didn't go through the same experiences Danny did? Did you even watch his show. He's had to endure racism, being framed for a crime, fight to survive in prison, and almost died after being forced into an illegal experiment and then had to spend the rest of his life on the run and even after saving Harlem and becoming a hero, he was still sent to jail again. Danny had his family fortune and company to come back to. And yes, Luke had to endure far worse due to his race than Danny ever did. The whole reason Luke was framed and jailed was because he was judged purely for being black. His innocence was not considered because of his race, something lots of black people in this country go through in case you hadn't notice. Despite the fact Luke served in the marines and was a police officer his guilt was still predetermined because of his skin. Danny keeps claiming he is better because he "earned" his powers from his training, but none of his actions have shown it. He fights purely for his own selfish reasons, was ready to brutally beat up a teenager desperate for cash in order to get information, yet claims he is fighting for something greater. That's entitlement right there and Danny needs to grow up.

Honestly that's pretty true to reality. It doesn't matter how hard a life a white person has. In the minds of some black people, they'll always be protected by "white privilege." It's a typical victim narrative that's based on the solidarity black people have with each other. Black people don't have a joint culture the way that the Irish do, or the Italians, or the Germans, or the Mexicans. Black people don't have one nation they can all trace their cultural heritage to. So the only thing that binds them together in the modern day is the oppression narrative that they all build their world view around.

Not to particularly take sides, but a lot of superheroes fall into various categories of how they became heroes. You have the ones who had to train for years to become what they are. Iron Fist, Batman, Green Arrow, and so on. And you have those who gained their abilities through dumb luck or fate or whatever. Luke Cage, Spiderman, Green Lantern, and so on. And some are just born with them. Superman, mutants in Marvel Comics, etc. One could look at Iron Man and say that he falls into a couple of categories. He seemed to be born very intelligent, and went to great schools perhaps, so he had all the knowledge to build his tech, but he didn't do it until fate forced him into a situation where he was forced to use his training to build the tech to rescue himself. Arguably, all of these superheroes have some level of privilege and some degree of training to various degrees and different mixes.
