Hi, Ryan Wow! I had to write this comment as a humble attempt at a thank you for making these videos that explain Elliott Wave Theory. I have been a Forex trader since 2014 and have looked at charts virtually daily since then. I am a self taught trader and have what I believe is a better than beginner understanding of price action to include candle formation, candle patterns, chart patterns, trends and reversals. All the indicators like stoch, rsi, moving averages, MACD…the whole Nine! I knew that Elliott Wave Theory did exist but I thought it was old and replaced by Ichimoku. Having said all of this…I am simply amazed by what I am learning from your videos and how it is all opening my eyes to what I might call the DNA of price movement! I now understand what I see on my charts in a linear fashion! Everything is making clear sense to me now as apposed to years of not understand where price is now and why it’s there and where price can go and why it will go there. If a trader can not clearly answer these two questions he will be burdened by years of frustration and side ways account balances! Elliott Wave is the only thing that has as you said given me a “road map” to price action. The way you teach and explain this process is very clear, clean and easy to understand. My trading career is on a new path! Thanks!

Ryan, first rate analysis of EW corrective moves. Trying to surf/trade corrective waves can be as challenging as trying to ride a big blue Hawaii wave Laird Hamilton style without a jetski. If possible, at some convenient time please do a short video on the transition after a 5th wave is achieved. After 5th wave is over, do you automatically start looking for an EW going the other way or is there an intermediate in the doldrums price action that EW experts look for and time stalling action before you can begin an EW in new direction. After 5\th Ave achieved, what is the counter wave you target for the next move, the bottom of the 4th wave perhaps. Please give EW afficianados your perspective on targets after 5th wave achieved. Best Regards, and thank you for sharing your vast trading expertise with traders in US and across the world. New US subscriber.
@TrendLizard2 жыл бұрын
Hi Spencer, Thanks for the kind words! Regarding the transition, the easiest answer is that we look for that five-wave move to be corrected. The basic expectation is for the five-wave move to be retraced by 38.2% to 61.8%, at which point the next five-wave move would begin. The tricky part is if the five-wave move was, for example, the 5th wave of an even larger five-wave move. Basically, we're looking for the Largest five-wave move that completed to be corrected by 38.2% to 61.8%. Good idea to make a video about it, I'll go to work on it!

Hi Ryan, what happens if the correction is more than 62% of the previous 5 waves? does that tell us anything about the future trend movments?
@TrendLizard3 жыл бұрын
Great question. If the correction is more than 62%, it tells us that in all probability, the pullback is correcting an even larger five-wave move (i.e. the five-wave move that was retraced by more than 62% is wave 5 of a larger fiver). Basically the trend has turned down on a larger time frame. I hope that helps!
@michaelalexander-kq8gh5 ай бұрын
Question. I understand that corrective moves come after a 5 way impulsive move. Let’s say that 5 way move is bullish and the corrective 3 way move is therefore bearish. So How does the market move to a bearish impulsive move? Can it do a bearish 3 way corrective move then move straight into a bearish 5 way impulsive move. How does the larger trend change. Thank you
@TrendLizard5 ай бұрын
Great question. On a large enough time frame, all downside moves will ultimately take a corrective three-wave form, because that is the nature of things - we progress forward and upward. But if you are looking on the smaller time frames - for example, the decline that took place on the Nasdaq off the 2000 high, that initial down leg into the 2002 low was very impulsive in nature. Ultimately, that impulsive down leg proved to be wave A of an ABC pullback that ended in truncated fashion in 2009. So that's the best example I have of a trendy down move - just keep in mind that, at least for the market indexes (which are the best gauges of changes in social mood, which is what we're after with Elliott Wave), all declines will eventually prove corrective, even if it takes 10 years to play out. I hope that helps. Come visit us at TrendLizard.com!

Great video. Quick question, how do know that the corrective wave pattern won't result in a bull market turning into a bear market?
@TrendLizard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, the key is the form of the pullback. If a new bear market is beginning, we'd see trendy downside action on the smaller time frames to pave the way for the much larger bear move. If instead the pullback is corrective on a small time frame, it is a safe bet that it's setting up higher prices instead. I hope that helps!

@coltenjosephhenrysbestyout8746 Жыл бұрын
Double corrections can unfortunately be tricky like that, that’s why we are constantly testing the new move to see if it’s trendy or not. The second it proves to be a countertrend move, we know that a larger pullback will form.

Hey man, good videos, learning a lot. K man, i think you need to help us out with how your defining your corrections. Example 18:22 min mark of this video. The C Wave of the running flat has 3 EXTREMELY definitive corrections that you dont use. You go all the way to the bottom for (3) then up to (4) and down. This seems so subjetive and almost arrogant (not calling you arrogant, just the fact that thos extremely large pull backs like from 158 back up to 165.5 are ignored). Generally Is it the percentage of length of 1 vs. 3 that makes you ignore all the pullbacks in the middle? Need some clarity here brother.
@TrendLizard2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, Thanks for the feedback! Regarding that C wave down, I should have labeled those big swings, but the thinking to me is that those are the subdivisions of the 3rd wave decline, a five-wave move as it should be. I hope that makes sense, if not let me know!

How effective would this be in terms of day trading on smaller time frames? Would one be required to research back into several years to identify the patterns.
@TrendLizard4 жыл бұрын
The idea behind fractals (which is what Elliott Wave is based on) is that the same pattern happens on all time frames. I think Elliott Wave is a good tool for the day trader to use to get a better grip on the direction of the dominant trend on different time frames. But in my experience, if you try to trade the Elliott Wave pattern on minute-by-minute data, it's difficult and you'll find more fake patterns than you do on the larger time frames.

How am I supposed to trade oversold rsi signals if I'm not supposed to trade corrections, since that's where most of these signals occur?
@TrendLizard3 жыл бұрын
The idea would be that an oversold RSI signal would occur near the low of the corrective move. This would be a good ancillary signal to put us on guard for a low and can then look to buy any trendy price action that appears on a near-term time frame. I hope that helps!
@LeeLikesRice3 жыл бұрын
Question about the correction from a to b. Couldn't it be said that there was a 5 point trend within the correction and not making it truly a correction?
@TrendLizard3 жыл бұрын
Are you referring specifically to the big B wave recovery on the S&P 500 in the video? If so, a case could have been made in real time that this advance was a five-wave move. But it ultimately proved to be a B wave for a fact, once a massive C wave decline completely retraced it to create a larger ABC pullback. Sometimes we don't know for sure whether a recovery is the resumption of the uptrend or a B wave. We continue to test the move at every opportunity to determine which is the case. The biggest tell is when the move in question is retraced by more than 61.8%. We can also look at other indexes/markets/stocks to see how the same move looks on them to see if there are any clues there. I hope that helps!

After a completion of a larger upward 5 wave move is it ALWAYS a downward ABC corrective move? Is there ever a complete trend change with a down ward 5 wave move?
@coltenjosephhenrysbestyout87462 жыл бұрын
Great question. It’s a matter of how big the change of trend is. If we complete a 10-year advance, it should be corrected by a very large multi-year ABC pullback (for example the 2000-2009 pullback). On the smaller time frames, that pullback will absolutely give us trendy five-wave down moves. If the corrective move is happening on a large enough time frame, you'll end up trading it. For example at the 2000 high, there was definitely a play to be made on the short side. Only later on do we realize that it's one massive countertrend move. But if you're getting trend changes that look to last several months or even years, then you definitely end up trading them.

@@leovelvetti4134 So wave 1 up from 1982-2000, and wave 2 from 2000 high into 2009 low. Is that what you're referring to? That is certainly possible. Hello mate, this is really nice, however please explain to me how you determine pivots of your waves. Thank you
@TrendLizard3 жыл бұрын
I don't fully understand your question, please clarify. Bottom line is that we're looking for patterns to complete, and then we're looking for a reversal. If it's a trendy move, we're looking for a five-wave move to complete, then once we see price reverse with any purpose, then that's an indication of a larger reversal. If it's a countertrend move, we're looking for clues that the three-wave move has ended.

@@TrendLizard i was just wondering how you determine pivots of these waves. What i mean by this is how do you say im taking this pivot to this pivot as my wave 1, then this as my wave 2 and so on. seeing as though there could be so many pivots you can choose from
@TrendLizard3 жыл бұрын
@@batanaichitauro4348 I think I understand now. Each trendy up leg (waves 1, 3, and 5) is made up of its own five-wave pattern. It's a fractal; the overall pattern is a five-wave move, but also each individual trendy leg is a five-wave move. So each pivot point is expected to occur upon the completion of a smaller five-wave pattern. I hope that makes sense of it.

sir , i am very sure that we are in LATE wave 5 of ( s& p 500 ) now , ( Aug/08/2020 ), I am a VA employee with TSP ( 401 ) , getting close to retirement in 2 years ..... I want to get into wave 5 and have a piece of pie , but i am so scared , my bad luck , the wave 5 suddenly stops ....in your view and base on your "Feb extensions" , how much longer wave 5 is continuing ? market closed at 3351 on aug/7/2020

When you say wave 5, what time frame are you talking about - the recovery off March's low or the entire advance off the 2009 low? The key either way is to control your risk. You can participate in any move as long as you know where the pattern will indicate a high and be willing to exit at that point. Clarify the time frame you are referring to and I'll try to provide more detail.

@@TrendLizard Thank you so much for replying fast ( you are awesome) ..... I am talking about time frame ( March- 2020 -----> Aug / 07 /2020 ) , 1,2,3,4,5 Elliot waves beautiful formation ( trending waves ) ( s& p 500 chart ) , i can see clearly the completion of pull back( corrective ) move ( 4 wave/triangle side way contracting ) ( 3-3-3-3-3), right after motive move of trending 3 wave ....... I am 100% sure that The motive 5 th wave has started already but i can not see clearly the ( 1,2,345, ) inside the Final terminal of 5 wave ......please please help me in which stage of final /terminal 5 th wave we are .

@@ampiciline So where does your 4th wave end? I have it ending in late June in a truncation, and from that low there is a fairly clear five-wave up move that could be near an end. If SPY were to move below 312 (which is around a 61.8% retracement of that 5th wave up off the late June low), it'd be solid proof that the up leg off March's low is over. That doesn't necessarily mean a major high would be in, but it'd set up at Least a correction of the March-current up leg. Of course no payment required, glad to help!

@@TrendLizard yea, im listening to another guy whos count shows we are currently in the wave 5 of a larger wave 3 on the way down.

@@streamofthought8662 That down leg in June/July (your guy's 1st wave) looks more like a three-wave to me, which is why I think the entire pullback off June's high is a big B wave. A move above 34.00 would create overlap and would suggest that it is in fact a B wave and not a trendy decline.
