I always appreciate these videos. Great knowledge delivered in a kind and gentle manner. So many landscaping companies really have no idea what they’re doing and how to keep plants healthy and happy. It is clear ctscaper has the necessary knowledge and caring way to do beautiful work. Just wish I could find someone like him in Boston! Companies around here love the mulch volcano 🙄.

Great video. Much appreciated. I have used a cardboard trick this year. I have no income to speak of and I am in my 70's so I can't afford to have others do it for me nor do it myself due to frailty. Thus the cardboard layer to smother and kill weeds ( the beds were real bad). Have you done this before or can you give me any tips to apply mulch? I have a very small pitchfork that I can pick up with only a little trouble. The music at the beginning was so soothing I felt sleepy. 😴
@CTSCAPER7 жыл бұрын
I have yet to try the cardboard trick but look forward to putting that one to good use. What I show in the videos is how I do it. A light pitchfork and patience is all you need. Yes, it is a little too mellow. :-)

Ovo926 : I've seen a number of videos where people use cardboard or newspaper as a weed barrier, then an inch or so of mulch on top to make the garden look nice. The paper will keep the weeds from growing, and the nice thing is it's free, and never has to be taken up because it will eventually break-down into the soil. Unlike weed fabric or plastic, which is horrible because it will break apart and you will be faced with picking hundreds of small pieces of plastic out of your garden.

This is a great video. My front yard has lily plant and there are so much leaves that I have no idea about how to remove them. I am planning to re-mulching in that area. Do I need to apply remove all the mulch? Do I need to add soil and add landscape fabrics? Could I get some ideas? I can even send the photos if you would prefer? I am not sure how thick is current mulch.

Just bought mulch today. I've never gardened before the last few months. But, I've been so depressed and frustrated over job-hunting that I end up taking breaks every four hours to weed. Now that I've done that, the friend who owns the house I stay in, was nice enough to buy mulch because he knows I'd be even more frustrated if I could not complete the job. So, your video helps.

Your videos are very intuitive. I do have a question as I am a novice and first time home owner out here in the Pacific Northwest. Does the 2" also go for me wanting to mulch around the base of my back yard. I have mulch between my yard and my fence. Maybe a foot between my yard and the fence. I also have a few weeds that have grown. Can I till the weeds instead of pulling them up or hand pull them? I ask because I hand pulled a few and the roots broke off. Thanking you in advance.

Hi, love your videos. Just subscribed. I bought a new house last fall that had been landscaped with pinestraw in the shrub beds. I hate it. Eight months later it is faded and ugly. Would it be OK to cover it with bark mulch?
@unkfrank110 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Shows some things I did wrong last year ;-) I had put down some black mulch (it's a great contrast to the house and the flowers) but it's fading. Since this is a dyed product, do I need to remove most/all of the old to freshen the color?
@jjooeegg19 жыл бұрын
Thanks for quick reply . I'm actually hoping mine reaches 12 ft . It says they do get to near 15 but most I see are always only like 7 ft . How old is yours . Are you pruning ? . Perhaps a snow fountain prune video would be good . I don't see many on YT .

Could you apply this same method if you're going from wood to rubber mulch? Or you would recommend removing the old mulch and laying down the fresh rubber mulch?

i had new weed barrier and mulch layed down in 2013 and alot of grass type plant is emerging through them now well as other weed plants. Do i pull these undesired plants and lay new mulch on top of old mulch? Or do i have to place new weed barrier and new mulch? Im not sure what to do? I had someone i knew do this for me back then and now that person is no longer available to help me.

Great video man. I liked it. I definitely learned something bout the volcano mulching. I usually don't mulch like that cuz I don't really like the way it looks. Oh and I used to have the same backpack blower as that one until it blew up. But mine had an air filter that came over the engine.

***** yeah I love echo but yeah the one I had was an echo pb 750t bought off craigslist for $150.00 and it did great until I left a gas can outside and forgot about it and ran it through the engine. I only bought it as a backup My main blower that I use is my echo pb 770t that's my really heavy duty blower and I love it. I highly recommend it I recommend u try out the echo pb 770t. You will love it

Hi John, somebody gave me fresh spruce tree wood chips but there are lots of the leaves. How do i use it in my garden - flower and vegetable? Please help
@scottcantor51389 жыл бұрын
Hey John.. Thanks for the video. The Volcano mulching seems to be a favorite in my neighborhood...every home has that around the Sycamore trees in their yard...I personally do not like the look and the tree my neighbor and I share is done that way. My question is: If I remove the mulch I will expose a lot of large surface roots (My thinking is none of the trees where planted deep enough) Do I build a Volcano of dirt? Do I lightly cover the roots even with the yard if possible? Thanks for any feedback!
@scottcantor51389 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, I spoke with my neighbor and he said he tried it once before and that the mulch is as hard as a rock so I think I'll just leave it be.... as you said "the roots have grown into the mulch"

When re-mulching beds that are mounded from the build up of mulch/soil over the years would you recommend that the majority should be removed before re-mulching in order to give the beds a more natural look instead of mounded (in most cases 5-8 inches built up)

I am in my new first home and just crossed 6 months and it's first spring .... do I need to replace the mulch? After how many months we should replace mulch? Please suggest
@CTSCAPER7 жыл бұрын
If the weeds are popping through your mulch it's time to add more. If the mulch is over 3 inches deep you have too much. If the mulch is preventing weeds you can wait a year to mulch or turn the mulch and put a light topdressing down to bring the color back. You should never have to replace mulch, just thicken it up a bit, not a lot. The biggest mistake I see when mulching are using over three inches. Please be careful with your mulch depth.

The back beds are under two enormous gum trees and the leaves and bark dropping off these trees is constant. Why do I have to remove all these leaves before putting on any mulch. Even when the mulch is down, it would be impossible to keep the leaves off the mulch.
