If you want to get the opportunity to roll a lot of d100+d10, I'd suggest checking out Ironsworn. It's a highly regarded system in the solo roleplaying crowd, is freely available as a PDF, has a solo-first design, and the resolution system is comparing a d6 + stat (your 'action die) to two different d10 (the 'challenge dice'), which as Ellen points out, you can just use a d100 as one of your d10, and since you'll also be rolling on a bunch of d100 tables, means you'll want something to use in that capacity as well.
@DrBrangar Жыл бұрын

If a Vampire player were on this video the d10 would most likely be competing fiercely with the top contenders here. I used a bunch of d100 rolls when I DMed to randomly generate townsfolk or places. I'd try to go in with a rough idea of the staples but you never know when somebody is going to go to the blacksmith and it's much better to have some random flavour descriptions on hand so people don't tune out. There's nothing more boring than "It's just a normal blacksmith" when you can have dice quickly decide to add details like "There's a dragon's bottom jaw mounted on the wall, and the person working the forge has a peg leg". Players are going to ask if the two are connected... and that's interesting. But yeah, they're never used in a fight.

That same purple set also has unusual shapes for the d4, d6s, d10, & d100, but normal d8, d12 & d20. The d4, for example, is like a stretched out d6, but with two opposite sides curving to rounded points instead of being faces, so they can't be landed on. It changes the d4 to no longer be a caltrop. The other redesigned dice are similar extrusions of a hexagon for the d6s and decagon for the d10 & d100.

As a certified dice goblin, I’ve perfected my ranking of polyhedral dice over a years-long career - here goes: 7th place - d4. It’s painful, it doesn’t roll well, and the only time it feels good to use is when you’re rolling for Bless. 6th place - d10. I don’t like it’s shape, and I don’t like the fact that a result of 10 is usually represented by a 0 on most dice. 5th place - d10s. It trumps the d10 because it has all the same usage cases, plus it can be used for a percentile roll. An elegant solution to the problem of how to get 100 values without using a massive die. 4th place - d6. I know it’s odd for the most commonly recognised die to be so low in the rankings, but it’s cube shape gives it a poor rolling action. It would probably be lower if I hadn’t started playing Blades in the Dark recently. 3rd place - d8. Probably my most often used die other than a d20, it’s common usage and elegant design put it firmly in the top 3. 2nd place - d20. The classic, and the only die on which rolling a 1 can lead to fun results. Honourable mentions - d1 and d100. I was gifted a d1 as a joke present for my birthday one year - it’s a möbius strip, and it’s existence gives me joy. A 100 sided die is a cool idea, but the size necessary makes it a pain to deal with. 1st place - d12. It has a strong rolling motion, it always feels good to roll d12s for damage, and the pentagonal faces look great. A top-notch die. There we have it: my personal rankings of each of the dice in a classic set of polyhedral dice.

Anyway ... the d6 has another thing going for it: it's tileable. People make portraits out of them. Also, what about all the other types? There's also d100, d60, d30 and more. There's even oddballs like d3, d5 and d7 apparently.

You guys can litterally review dice and its entertaining, and thats a pretty top tier youtube channel in my book

I have to admit all the pretty die and fantasy elements with the chance for imagination in character creating and story telling makes D&D so intriguing to me, plus seeing so many KZbinrs I like go on about their own characters and such just really makes me want to try, then I remember I'm a social anxious person who would probably choke up in a session

My god. I can't wait for next week, and cleaning Luke's keyboard. Top tier KZbin content. Better than anyone has ever made, or capable of making. Amazing stuff. I'm so excited for this triple A content . You better not back out of this and let us all down.

d20s are classic, iconic, pretty, AND satisfying to roll! Plus, they’re often the largest in the set, so you can FILL THEM WITH MORE GLITTER!! ❤ I like d4s and d8s - I bought a bunch of defective dice, and the d4s and d8s in particular make really cool necklaces. ^_^

Luke, I'm sure you'd love one of those D100s that is basically just a ball. And for the nerd in me: D4 - tetrahedron, D6 - cube (so square it's just squares), D8 - octahedron, D10 - decahedron, D12 - dodecahedron, D20 - icosahedron. D100 - balls.

Wow, I'd love to get some of those purple dice. The purple and gold looks really good together. A beautiful set. Also, they need to play Call of Cthulhu and then Luke can learn how the D10/D100 is your life.

The reason that you have a d10 with the extra zero is so that when you roll a 9 and a 1 you don't have a five minute argument with the GM about whether you got 91 or 19.

So glad Ellen mentioned actual d100 dice are available. That said, having held and used one, I actually prefer the d10 + tens d10 in practice.

I feel that they should do a follow-up video with things like a D7, a D24, a dAverage and a barrel d4.

Luke and Ellen are my D6 and D20. You never know what you're gonna land on, but it is a guaranteed good time rolling with friends.

Luke, just to help understand the d100 (because for some reason a lot of people try to overcomplicate it by thinking you should like subtract 10 or something because "there's no way it could work with only 00" or "how do you roll a 100?"), you just add the numbers together. The lowest number you can get is a 00 + 1, which gives you 1, while the highest number you can get is a 90 + 10, which is 100.

No, no, no. That's not how it works - you don't *add* anything. You *insert* the numerals into their spaces in the final result. The d10 produces the numeral (0-9) that goes in the "ones" space. The d% produces the numeral that goes in the "tens" space. Simply put the numerals side by side. For 100, that number has a 0 in the "ones" space, and a 0 in the "tens" space. So a roll of 0 & 00 reads as 100. A roll of 1 & 00 reads as 1 because you have a 1 in the "ones" space and a 0 in the "tens" space - 01. Simplicity itself, no addition required.

Personally, my favourite is the d30. It's rarely ever used, but when it is, it suggests something interesting or unusual is happening.

But have you seen the Infinity D4? It looks like a little brick that's rounded/wrapped around on its small ends so it always lands on the long, flat sides. Whichever number is on the top surface is your roll. Easy to read, easy to use, and they don't stab you in the foot a few days after they get lost in the carpet. Also; they stack neatly when you need to brick someone up in a hole in the wall with a cask of amantillado...

this is SO funny. I just bought my first pair of DND dice and they're the sharp-edged kind, and throwing the d4 is the least satisfying thing on the planet so this thumbnail really spoke to me. I was just griping to my partner about how much I hate the d4. I love its limited numbers but MAN does it feel and sound weird!

Lol, was Luke a theatre kid? Every time I watch him do something (relatively) unscripted, I’m impressed with his characterizations and comedic timing! And Ellen is definitely his perfect foil. She brings chaos to his (again, relative!) orderliness, is a never-ending font of ideas, and can easily play either the straight-man or the partner-in-crime! The d10s have always been my favorites. 🙃

I picked up a gorgeous set of purple and gold metal dice at the Renaissance Festival this year. The D4 is legit a deadly weapon. All D4s are sharp, but the metal ones are Sharp.

Where else can I sit down and watch two grown adults talk about ranking dice for nearly 20 minutes and still be incredibly entertained 😂 this was great (I’m still in the D20 camp though. I like D6’s and yes they’re a classic, but nothing will ever be able to beat a D20 to me)

You really gave the cameraperson a workout with this one:) Totally agree on D4, it's just not rolling right- D10s are fine by me though. That is a gorgeous set by the way, glad we got a closeup on them!
