Woke will always put gay in the script, even where not warranted or needed.

The book, and the 1926 movie, include an episode with a female character named Iras* in which Judah rejects her advances and she goads Messala to enter the chariot race against Judah in the first place. The '59 film omits the motivation entirely. (Also there was about a 7 year age gap between Heston and Boyd making the childhood friendship unlikely--even worse in 1926, about 18 years between Novarro and Bushman.) *Played by Carmel Myers.

Vidal was a notorious liar and made up this complete horseshit. This is an old story that Vidal concocted and Wyler and Heston knew about the rumor and both of them denounced the gossip as fraudulent.

The Department of Redundancy Department strikes again! Unnecessarily repetitive and ultimately boring. The story, however, is true.

The Romans and especially the Greeks didn't have a concept of "homosexuality." They had lovers, male as well as female.

In our time we'd call it life time friendship and the betrayal of it. It's more powerful in exaggeration and makes it more believable. Now there are some 1950's and 60's movies that are the starts of some woke thinking. Ben Hur is not one of them.

Ben Hur and Messala were gay. OK. We get it. 5 minute video, maximum. What a boring overlong pile of dreck.

I don’t believe a word of it. Sounds like a woke narrative.
