When Sir Roger died, I remember reading an anecdote about a man who, as a boy, saw Roger on the airport. His dad gave him a piece of paper and a pen, and he ran over to ask "James Bond" for his autograph. When the boy came back to his dad, the dad could see he was not very happy. "WHo is Roger Moore? I wanted James Bond's autograph!!" The dad went over to Roger and explained the boy's disappointment. Roger beckoned back the boy, and then told him he was on an undercover 007--mission, top-secret, so that is why he signed it as Roger Moore. YEars later, this boy became a lighting technician, and was contracted to do a UNICEF meeting of some sort. This was when Roger was at UNICEF. Everybody lined up to shake his hand. When the lighting man got his very short turn, he referred to that day, but got the impression Roger couldn't remember it. At the end of the meeting, Roger came back to him and said yes, he completed that top-secret mission, and he is glad that the boy/man "kept their secret" for so long. What a man!

When Roger Moore first acted as James Bond in 1973 I was only a year old, and I was 13 when he ended his run. He was my generation's 007, and while I love Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, Roger Moore, in my opinion, brought a level of class that no other Bond ever had. Thank you, Sir Roger Moore, for filling this 70's-born kid with a wonderful childhood full of entertainment. R.I.P.

Heartbroken to find out he passed away today. I met him at a book signing and it was his birthday and I wanted to wish him Happy Birthday. His minder objected and tried to move me on but he asked his minder to back off and while still holding my hand tightly and with a big warm smile he thanked me sincerely for remembering and for my good wishes. Lucky to see him on tour last year, brilliantly witty raconteur. Truly a decent man with no pretention or pompous airs. His work with UNICEF was inspiring. R.I.P Sir Roger :-(

I went to see a talk with Sir Roger Moore at the Barbican cinema in London. He was very funny and at one point said it's getting a bit late so if anybody needs to go home, just walk out and I won't mind. A man in the front row got up and said 'sorry I've got to go.' Sir Roger got up, came off the stage and shook hands with the man and thanked him for coming. I thought that was such a nice touch and can't imagine many other 'stars' doing that.

Not everybody liked his "jokey " Bond but it really became "his Bond"....very different from the Connery version. He added a certain sarcastic with into his Bond, and even when viewing one of his Bond movies now I still smile after he delivers his comment. He wasn't afraid to poke fun at the character, and he never demeaned Bond either. A perfect example was from a moment from "For Your Eyes Only" when Bond contacts "Q" in Greece using a Confessional as cover. Bond states to a bearded "Q" saying "bless me Father for I have sinned"....an in return "Q" says "that's putting it mildly 007"! Cheers.

Just watched this 1995 interview for the first time. What an amazing career and life Sir Roger had. All the many comments from his son, Tony Curtis, Lewis Gilbert, David Niven's son, Jackie Collins, Maud Adams, and Michael Caine were spot on and very accurately described his carrier, and most importantly....him, the person. The humor and quick wit that he used to avoid scrapes as a kid served him very well as an actor. The Bond scripts were tailored for his lighter comedic slant on playing the character. Sir Roger was certainly a class act too, as he mentioned in several interviews that he thought that Daniel Craig was a fantastic Bond. For me, "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "For Your Eyes Only" represented some of Sir Roger's best work as 007. Bond fans, (and the world), were very fortunate to have Roger Moore as an actor and humanitarian. He'll be sorely missed.

And even though his later Bond films started to fall apart, he comes back with his charity work and continues to hold a special status. If The Persuaders had not been canceled after just one season, then quite possibly, Roger would never have played Bond. The series was supposed to go for several years but because it didn't do well in America (it's main target market), it was canceled early which allowed Roger to accept the role of Bond. Something similar would happen to Pierce Brosnan more than 10 years later.

Roger is the last of the great English gentleman actors. What a humorously funny man he is. His bond was by far the most entertaining as it was out of this world fantasy like. Today's bonds are action like any action film but you don't go back and watch time and time again like Roger or Sean's films... Look how colourful Rogers bond films are compared with today's dark seriously moody affairs. Bring back the bond fantasy! That's what made them so special.

Good point, but our times are somewhat dreary now and Craig's films reflect that a bit. In 1983, on The Tonight Show, Connery told Carson that the Bond franchise is kind of a "newspaper" that over the years would reflect what was going on. He was correct. Personally, I miss the scenes in which Bond shows his wine and culinary knowledge. Several examples exist, but only in the Connery and Moore Bond films. These "moments" showed a "cultured" Bond to a certain degree and set him apart from all other action-adventure films. For me, Sir Roger"s best Bond films were "The Spy Who Loved Me", and "For Your Eyes Only". Terrific Bond movies.

Mike Thomas Thanks for the question sir. Two problems with Jackman, he may be too closely associated with his "Wolverine" character, and he may not be young enough for a multi-picture deal that EON has traditionally offered to actors who have played Bond. Plus it's hard to say if Jackman would be "all in" for a long tenure as 007. With breaking news yesterday as the cast and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson answered questions at GoldenEye in Jamaica, I'm not too concerned about who's going to be portraying Bond after Craig's supposed last Bond film. If "Bond 25" will be his final performance then the casting process will presumingly occur AFTER it's release in April of 2020. The perfect actor for the role may be a total unknown presently and it's just too early to make any accurate predictions.

Absolutely. The Sean Connery/Roger Moore eras are so much better. Daniel Craig's Bond films are dull and Craig is a miserable so and so in real life.

The spy who loved me, was Rogers best Bond film, I also enjoyed his role in The wild Geese. I think Roger was the quintessential English gentleman, he was a true one off. RIP Sir Roger Moore, miss your charm, charisma and unique character. 👍

Great reminiscences by Roger Moore himself, which gives an authentic touch to this bio. Michael Caine adding a few personal bonmots ( don't worry Michael, we will always remember you as Harry Lime). Personally, Roger's standout quality, in the class of Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart, was his immense personal integrity. Also, I never realised before, that he had a butt chin, which is supposed to be a lucky facial feature, to all those who possess it. This show, also features an early cameo appearance of Julie Christie in "The Saint" which I have never seen before.

I remember being very young and stumbling upon reruns of The Saint (going to guess early 70's) and being absolutely hooked. As for being fave Bond, I don't even compare Moore and Connery. They played the part so differently I can honestly say they were both my fave Bond.

His tongue-in-cheek humor was really right for the times. If you watch "Diamonds Are Forever" again, you'll see clearly that the series was headed towards that sort of humor. Moore just helped carry it forward

@@cinbur4362 He has a point. Sean Connery was in his early 30's when he took over the Bond role and around 40 when he quit it. Roger Moore on the other hand was already around 45 when he first played Bond. That's a shade old to be such a dynamic and physical character as Bond. Though in saying that I enjoyed the Bond films of Roger Moore.

I was born in december 82 and even as a child i recognized his charme, his ironic side and his attention didn‘t want to play a cold blooded spy.
