Luqaimat (also spelled lugaimat or lokma) is a traditional Arabic sweet (dessert) dumpling that is often served with dates, tea or coffee. It is particularly popular during Ramadan and other religious festivals and special occasions. The recipe for making luqaimat in Saudi Arabia is similar to other Gulf countries, It is made from a dough of flour, yeast, and sugar that is shaped into small balls and then deep-fried until golden brown. The dumplings are then drizzled with a sweet syrup made from sugar, water, and sometimes saffron or other flavorings. Some variations also include a filling of sweetened and ground nuts or sesame paste. It is a traditional sweet from Gulf countries and particularly in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar.
