VERY old Arrow Coaster. For most of you who might not know, Arrow is short for Arrow Dynamics, the company who designed and built this coaster. This looks to be an early model Arrow. Sadly, all the effects including the fog, blood colored water from the waterfall, and the head tunnel have been removed from the coaster ;'-( what's left, is the actual ride itself. I hope its still standing. As Arrow is no longer a company. The president died. That's all i know about it. But hope this amazing piece of art is still working and still going.

I work there and we actually still have a lot of the effects on the ride..... Sadly we don't really turn them on because due to the age of the ride, a lot of the effects cause faults to occur in the system. :( So to allow for more uptime of the ride, we can't actually turn them on.
@goodfellow4089 жыл бұрын

I remember my first ride on this coaster (in the 80's) the tunnel was lighted back then and the water was red
@Charlesb883 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately CGA has allowed the theming to seriously deteriorate on the Demon. Several fun elements have be disabled or removed including lights in the first tunnel just out of the station as well as sounds effects that played in that tunnel, a cement rock structure you passed through during the second loop, Fog machines that were placed in the tunnels, and finally blood red colored water that fell out of the rock formation by the corkscrews. I can sort of understand why they may have stop maintaining the fog and waterfall features due to maintenance costs and other issues but they could have at least maintained the lights in the tunnel and the sound effects and the rock structure in between the second loop.

As much as I love B&M coasters, there's just something about the old Arrow coasters that's just... Beautiful. Maybe I'm just biased because that was the first full-circuit looping coaster I ever road. Just a few minutes after riding my first ever looping coaster, the Tidal Wave. Back in the days when the park was still themed, when the Tidal Wave still had its lights and beachfront, and the Demon still had the glowing eyes by the entrance, 3 queue mazes, lights around the tunnel entrance, rocks around the loops complete with color-changing lights, and glowing eyes on the skull. Yeah, the new coasters are exciting, thrilling, and give one more of an adrenaline rush than any old coaster could. But I have yet to see one that was anywheres near as beautiful as the older ones.

For nostalgia purposes I will give props to the Demon. Been riding the demon since 1983 and it was the scariest ride back in those days. Double loop to loops and corkscrews were a new thing back then so this was a big deal. It doesn't compare to the stuff out now but I had some serious great times on this ride as a kid growing up. Im surprised they have kept it going all these years. Great America had some great rides back in the day which unfortunately most of them are all gone.

Six flags Great Americas Demon is way better. Reasons. In tunnel 1 there are eyes. On the vertical loops there are rocks you go through. In the second tunnel there are lights that flick on and off. The demon moth you go into before the corkscrews is much more looking like a demon. Do I need to do any more explaining? If you want proof, look up Six Flags Great America Demon. michael burns Oh, it's a cool looking ride, it just doesn't do much. The Jack Rabbit was built nearly 100 years ago, yet you at least get air on the double dip near the end. The Racer was built around the same time and is a bit more fierce than this one. The Gemini was built in 1977 or 1978 and is a lot faster and more dangerous than this one. Just saying.
@gburnash10 жыл бұрын
Sad that it's such a shadow of itself with all of the effects missing, removed, or not working. They added so much to the ride- from the mist, darkness, and screams in the first tunnel, the rock work around the first loops, the second tunnel lighting up blood red as you went through it, the blood colored falls and more. It was really an incredible ride- especially for it's time when it opened. As others are commenting below, there is another one at Six Flags Great America. Both Great America's were originally "twin" parks owned by Marriott's, and had identical coasters in them. These both started out as Turn of the Century without the vertical loops, then the loops were added and all of the effects. Shortly afterwards Marriott's sold off the parks. The Chicago area park preserves a lot more of the original theming and atmosphere than the Santa Clara park does, where much of it throughout the park has been lost over the years.

Its fun, lines are usually short, but the rides probably one of the biggest ear bangers in the whole park

This was the coaster that every time I go to Great America, I HAVE to ride this coaster twice, once when I get there, and right before they close, so I'm on it in the evening.

I hate roller coasters but I love the sound they make when the cars are going along the track...especially the wooden ones. I find it strangely relaxing lol.

I went yesterday and The Demon was our first ride of the day, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. WOW =)

I have rode The Demon at SFGA in IL countless times since I was a kid. It will always be one of my favorites. There is nothing quite like an Arrow looper.

I remember riding this ride as a kid with my Dad (32 years ago), the worst part I think is when they stop you at the end with the brakes. It is like, ugh, your stopped. Glad to see it is still going.

Definitely wished I was a part of this. Travelling the globe and going to themeparks all around. Amazing.

I remember riding The Demon during some promotion called "Double-Dare The Demon" where you could ride twice in a row without getting off. The day I went the park wasn't too busy and so I got to ride 9 times in a row. I also recall that there was a song that played in the queue are warning you about "the Demon.. the Demon!"

This ride looks great! A classic Arrow! No classic 70s Arrow will ever be better than Loch Ness Monster at BGE though. Especially riding at night.

Exactly the same as The Demon at Six Flags Great America in Illinois. Which was called the Turn of the Century the first time I rode in spring of 1979. Originally designed with 2 large hills where the double loop was and the loops were where the corkscrew is now. It was re-themed the following year as the demon and one year after that Marriott sold out to Six Flags. I will never forget it as it is the first coaster I ever rode.

John VanAcker That's interesting. They tore down the Turn of the Century and replaced it with The Demon. This was my first coaster ever as a youngin'. It's outdated by today's standards but this coaster helped get over my fear of coasters then I was ready to move on up to the "big boys" like The Viper at Six Flags in Los Angeles.
