These lectures are getting me through my semiconductor devices class. Thank you so much for posting these.

Probably the clearest explanation that I’ve seen so far on this topic. Thanks a lot!

Sir, at 19:00, when we find the density of states in the k-space for a quantum well, shouldn't we divide it by LxLy instead of LxLyLz, as we are referring to area in real space here, though in bulk, we refer to the volume in real space
@gulwareena Жыл бұрын
yes yes
@neilz7242 Жыл бұрын
Professor is correct. The number of states in bulk dk area is still the same as the calculation by area. Lz is required to calculate the density of states per volume

Why the area is 2*pi k dk it is an area of circle pi sqr(k)??
@sunmathi22904 жыл бұрын
We need the area of 'dk' thickness ring. so the circumference of 'k' radius ring=2 pi k, then multiply the thickness'dk', we get 2 pi k dk. Another method, the area of the outer ring minus(-) the area of an inner ring. = pi (k+dk)^2 - 2 pi k^2 = pi (k^2+2kdk+dk^2-k^2) = pi 2kdk+dk^2 =2 pi kdk . (here dk^2 is negligibly small)

What is Ec?
@t_a79234 жыл бұрын
Ec is the energy at lowest point in conduction band...Ev is the energy at highest point in valence band...Ec and Ev are respectively called CB and VB edges..👍happy studying😉😁 edit: thus all energy values in CB will be greater than Ec and that in VB will be lesser than Ev.. The gap between these band given by Ec -Ev gives the band gap.

Did anybody get the answer in order of 25? :D
@21_brajeshmishra284 жыл бұрын
Yeah
@lalitaaggarwal622 жыл бұрын
@@21_brajeshmishra28 actually in the order of 23 and that too will be for (per m^3 )but he has stated the answer in (per cm^3). That's why 10^18 fits.
