In an early draft of the Novel, the workers in the factory were Pygmies from Africa, but it was changed due to the realization that comparisons would be made to the Slave Trade, so instead made them more like Worker Elves from this magical land. Tho in the current Wonka Prequel, it does seem like they are trying to distance the Oompa Loompas from the Slavery Comparisons even more by having Wonka come across Oompa land by Accident, harvesting a Coco Plant he found there unknowingly owned by the Oompa Loompas, and resulted in an Oompa Loompa stalking him to get payback

Erm the Oompa Loompas aren’t slaves 1st of all they came willingly to work for Willy wonka in his factory, slaves are forcibly taken and don’t get a choice. 2nd wonka gives them cocoa beans 🫘 in exchange for their work because to Oompa Loompas they are considered sacred. He also offered them a better life than the harsh living conditions of loompaland. 3rd the songs the Oompa Loompas sing are all rehearsed and perfectly choreographed to entertain Wonka and the children but also to highlight the key messages of the book to the readers. 4th you are overthinking this and making this video for views. Willy Wonka is a quirky and imaginative character from Roald Dahl's beloved children's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." He is the enigmatic chocolatier who opens his magical factory to a few lucky children, each of whom learns a valuable lesson about greed and kindness through their misadventures. Played brilliantly by Gene Wilder in the 1971 film adaptation, Willy Wonka remains a timeless and iconic figure in popular culture.

A joke that wouldn't fly today indeed, but Wonka didn't have malicious intent. The Oompa Loompas came to his factory on their own free will. Back in their homeland, they lived in tree houses because it was too dangerous on the ground and had to resort to eating bugs that tasted disgusting, all while longing for cocoa beans. Wonka offered them a safe place to stay free of charge and all the cocoa beans they wanted. It sounds like a very fair trade to me. A lot of the things he did were mostly because he couldn't read social cues and had no social skills whatsoever, but he wasn't purposely cruel or evil.
