As an esthetician from South Africa I can tell you Dermalogica is pretty huge in SA too. I’ve had the pleasure of being training intensively on their different products, the brand and what makes them different. Who they are as a company and a brand by putting education on top of their list amongst other things is refreshing and I love it as our industry is forever changing and evolving. Could you please do a video on Environ?😊

It did kind of trigger my cynicism. I got a sense of "Dermalogica invited some influencers, gave them a lovely tour, facials, made them feel special, because it's good publicity". That doesn't mean the founder isn't a lovely and inspiring woman or that the skincare is bad, but I can guarantee that people like Cassandra were allowed to see things and speak to people only if they showed the company in a good light.

Can u explain just a tad on how this brand specifically helped with dermatillomania? I've been disgnosed with this and even been put on an oral prescription medication for it which did not work, unfortunately, as well as work with a therapist on my picking compulsion, and id really like to hear about HOW this brand has helped you, if its about a specific product, or something else.
@KatsukiBakugos
@KatsukiBakugos 2 жыл бұрын
@@mdonbrosky88 hi Melanie! Thank you for asking and for sharing what you’re going through too. I think the products overall helped because they gave me hope if that’s not cheesy lmao. I saw my skin react to products positively in a way I had not before, and I didn’t feel helpless or that all skincare would fail me? Ofc it’s a hard illness to face and time is your best friend when it comes to healing, but it’s nice to see products that genuinely support your healing. That doesn’t mean you need their whole line, but picking up one or two of their products to fit a current need of yours isnt a bad idea imo. I enjoy their calming line for when I have redness and if you have the money the adult acne and vitamin c products are pretty great. I also really like the clear start brand as a whole and their prices are more friendly. But im just me!!! Idk what your needs are and always do research but I hope this made some sense!!

@@KatsukiBakugos Similar experience - I used to work in a spa, and I remember one of the staff telling me Dermalogica changed her life. Big expectations! And it did revolutionise my skin, I was in my 30s at the time (wow - this was nearly 20 years ago). I still obsessively inspect my pores, but if there's no acne, there's nothing to gouge out. These were the first products that really made a difference to my skin, clearing blemishes, reducing breakouts, pigmentation (scars, hormonal, sun). The Daily Microfoliant is the main one that really works for me, and I've been going back it over and over for almost 2 decades. They're just launched a milder Milkfoliant which I've just bought to try. The products aren't cheap, but they last for ages & reliably *work*, which is such a relief.

I was so fortunate to attend a Dermalogica partnered school. The school sucked, but Dermalogica opened a lot of doors to free education. They gave me opportunities I never would have had if I'd gone to another school. On top of all the free Dermalogica classes, I also get free IDI classes. I got a bad impression of them when I received my first facial in school. I wound up being allergic to the calming botanical mixer & broke out in hives. Active Moist caused TEWL & dried me out for months after I stopped using it. However, Precleanse introduced me to oil cleansing. I don't know how I survived before oil cleansing. It took away all the texture I'd been trying to exfoliate with chemicals & abrasives. I wish they'd come out with a balm. I also swear by Microfoliant. I've struggled with sebaceous filaments in my chin forever. Microfoliant is the *only* thing that gets them out. I needed something gentle enough to use regularly because they fill up so fast & microfoliant was the answer. I hate that it gets a bad reputation because it's so commonly misused. If it's not fully whipped, it's not being used correctly. They say it'll whip in your hands but it never does. I put it in a bowl & beat it with a fan brush.

Dermalogica is really pricey for its products, despite relatively simple and good formulations. I remember coming across it in South Korea in a pharmacy drugstore, and the price of one particular product such as the moisturizer (such as Skin Smoothing Cream) retailed at the same price as in America, but at half the quantity (50ml instead of 100ml for approximately 50 to 55 USD equivalent). With that pricing, I would rather settle for cheaper alternatives.

Hi Cassandra! Great video ;) there is one thing I don’t totally agree from my personal perspective as a pharmacist in Poland, I often have patients with skin concerns coming to the drugstore looking for an advise regarding cosmetics or OTC topical products and additionally talking about their feelings or problems It’s most definitely due to the fact that dermatological brands like cerave (which is btw new, and has very limited portfolio in Poland), la roche posay, bioderma etc are exclusively sold in pharmacies Sure not all pharmacists are educated enough to provide with cosmetological advice, but I love this topic, and continue to educate myself to help others In my opinion, pharmacy is the most available place for people financially and geographically to talk to healthcare proffesional with medical university degree

That really seals the deal for me (eventhough I already did long time) because it shows they are unafraid and have integrity and faith with their company, people and products when other brands would be scared to invite you because you might expose something from them. I have never had a positive experience with Dermalogica. I have been an esthetician for 3 years and every person from the brand who I have met has been racist. When I have asked (multiple) people about studies on BIPOC skin, I’ve been told the same thing in multiple different ways, “That’s not our clientele because people of that background can’t afford our products. We don’t need to do the research because they won’t buy our stuff.” And when I told them that many BIPOC people could afford their stuff but half of it makes me and (from what I had noticed from working on BIPOC clients) a majority of BIPOC peoples skin have negative reactions, so even if we wanted to, we couldn’t use their products. I have always gotten hives from their products, and it made a lot of my BIPOC clientele end up with even worse hyperpigmentation than when they came in. I officially stopped using the brand and I’ve never had a problem like that since. This may not be everyone’s experience with the brand, but this is my experience and what I and my clients have noticed from the brand and their products.

Was curious how you felt about the brands formulas and results before this experience. I’ve been using Dermalogica since age 15 , currently 32. Today I switched from the special cleansing gel to the ultra calming cleanser due to new availability and my skins problems started at birth with sever eczema on the face so hydrating alongside with moisture barrier repair is essential….For scarring left from years of skin issues I have used “the concentrate” by La Mer to get deep down and actually repair those uneven spots and the results were overwhelmingly visible and didn’t reverse back after discontinuation..regardless of the products status and I don’t recommend this as a “daily” skincare product. Where as Dermalogica has seemed to target all issues and all ages in what feels to me like a safe manner.

Really overpriced. Funds must go into kickbacks and hype because the labs look cheap.

Can you please tell me how the difference is made from a legal point of view between professional products and those that are only for home use? Are they analyzes or specific documents? How to decide if a product can be used in the salon or only at home?
