Seen one of those Reiner figures in person & holy shit are they amazing! These guys did an excellent job & you can tell just listening to him talk about the intricacies of the work that he's super passionate about what they do.

Thank you! this thing took a lot of work and dedication. We busted our butts to make this happen but a lot of the credit goes to the Sideshow production team that really brought this baby home through production.

I would love to get one of those iron giants for my little girl. I love that articulation still maters to some toy makers. Maybe they'll come out with an articulated Kane from Robocop 2 someday.

And this is why they cost hundreds of dollars too. I showed a picture to someone once of the Threezero t-45 Power Armor and asked them to guess how much it cost. He said 80$. I said that thing is 15 inch tall and the armor pieces come off and the inner suit is completely detailed. He said 100$... He had no idea of the work that goes in those figure and just saw it as a 15 inch piece of plastic. Like the guy said in the video, those are assembled by hands and painted in extreme details. It goes beyond taking a 3d model and make a cast then paint it.
@Verithiell
@Verithiell 7 жыл бұрын
yeah, but the prices are blew up, because people are willing to pay. The real worth of those figures is much lower. Even at 100$ price tag, they would still make quite a bit of profit.
@atomixfang
@atomixfang 7 жыл бұрын
Do you know how much the tooling is to create a single piece of those figures? I dont think you really know what the real worth of those figures is.
@GarethXL
@GarethXL 7 жыл бұрын
Verithiell if it's a static figurine yeah but if it's an action figure it should be around 200 or the company couldn't recoup the cost unless they are selling it exclusively and not distributed to third party suppliers like your neighbourhood hobby shop
@Verithiell
@Verithiell 7 жыл бұрын
yep. Look at history of prices of action figures. Its not like the quality has drastically changed. The market did. People are willing to spend more and more and thats why companies abuse this fact slapping higher and higher price tags on them. Labor in countries such as china is relatively inexpensive. So yep, they are not that super expensive to make. Alot of effort goes into it, sure, but at the end of the day they are still mass produced.
@Verithiell
@Verithiell 7 жыл бұрын
also, look at models. More advanced pieces consist of gazzilion little pieces. And yet the pries arent nearly as high as those of action figues, that I dare to say in vast majority are far less complex. Paintjob and finish isnt really that expensive when you do it in countries such as china.

I appreciate what the guy is trying to say; working in the toy high-end toy industry myself, I understand how complex these projects really are. But I own that Raynor figure and it is hot garbage from a material and design standpoint. It doesn't stand well on it's own, several of the tubes and pistons pop out of their sockets with any movement, it doesn't hold any of the guns well because weight wasn't taken into account on its impact on the individual arm joints, and the battery compartment is a loveless whore to get to. All that aside, the plastic does not feel high quality or dense in most places--layered yes, but not sturdy, which leads to some pretty nasty breakages without the tenderest of care and a solid base you either need to make yourself or buy separately to hold it upright securely. Is it pretty? Hell yes. Is it big? ThreeA REX big, damn near. But is it worth the $500 price tag? No way. It may have taken two years to design, but it really should have stayed in the development shop longer to work out the bugs. Referring back to REX toy mentioned earlier, it cost $50 less, was bigger, had more articulation, and despite problems, managed to look both as detailed (if not more so), can stand on its own, and can at least take a goodly amount of punishment before showing wear.

The have to hire this concept design shop to supervise the smartphone production of certain company, with their proclaimed high standard of OEM customer satisfaction would be the perfect quality seal to promote branded products. Also does anybody figure it out yet how does the original Robocop prop suit allow the character to sit down or squat to ride a bike with those stiffed thighs and hips it has?
