Nice design choice - As always for Apple. Produce excellente devices (hardware + software wise - No doubt!) and make customers "extremely happy". They simply make good products (initial hardware state + excellente software support). But if the hardware breaks, they charge for a new device. The customer plebs simply remember their "happy moments" and buy the "updated, overpriced, follow-on device" every 1-2 years - They stay happy by the continuing product-quality and completely disregard the fact, that they are constantly getting ripped off by apple. (Works in other buisinesses too like "light bulbs" but not on the same scale. E.g. Airpods are brilliant but they have to be replaced every 18months. Watches are likely to fail after 2 years. Dongles you have to tiptoe about not moving stuff whilst they're plugged in. My work computer which is a 15 inch 2017 MacBook Pro Touch Bar which had an issue with the keyboard where 2 keys would intermittently not respond or double type the key pressed. After getting the keyboard replaced which in turn is the whole bottom case, they damaged the antenna module in the repair. After 3 weeks I got the computer back and found I had this exact screen issue after I got the computer back. They were hesitant to even address the issue as it was only intermittently doing this and I had filmed it several times happening and finally they decided to replace the screen. Fast forward a month and 3 other computers in our department had the keyboard issue. Once the three came back for repair, 1 also had this screen issue and were hesitant to replace it. Then fast forward 2 months, colleagues 13inch 2017 MacBook Pro Touch had the screen issue. If Apple are willing enough to extend the warranty due to the keyboard sticky keys issue, they should also extend warranty of the display with the flex issue.

Same thing happend to my macbook pro from 2017 after 2 years. Apple wants $1000 to swap out my screen, even though the cable is the only issue on my device. I will never buy any products from Apple again. The risk of failure on their Macs are way too high for the price tag, and their products are not reliable at all. You really expect that a Macbook pro that costs $3000 last for more than 2 years.
@TheRealMarkS6 жыл бұрын
Out of warranty, Apple will tell you that you need a new display panel, and possibly a logic board, and that you'd be better off buying a new laptop. That seems to be the way they do business these days. Someone really needs to start selling Hackintosh kits, both for desktop and laptops. Sell a kit of compatible components, and include everything but a Mac OS disk, and you'd get everything you want at half the price. Personally, if I could easily buy a nicely spec'd kit, I wouldn't care if it was heavier, thicker, or made of plastic. I (and I suspect a lot of people) just want Mac OS.
@moth42566 жыл бұрын
problem is that installing mac is can be really difficult for a regular user and they can't advertise themselves as a hackintosh device or anything like that, as apple legal team will be very mad at that
@ThereminHero6 жыл бұрын
You really are better building one though, to make sure you don't get ripped off and so you can choose the spec you want for your budget. The info is all there and quite straightforward to follow. www.tonymacx86.com/buyersguide/building-a-customac-hackintosh-the-ultimate-buyers-guide/

Selling hackintosh causes jail
@JanCiger6 жыл бұрын
Nobody can sell "Hackintosh kits" because you will get sued for contributory copyright infringement by Apple, even if you don't distribute the disks themselves . They will claim that your "product" is designed only to facilitate copyright infringement by others (installing MacOS on anything but Apple hw is prohibited by their license) and you will have very expensive legal problems. And if you don't label the kit as "Hackintosh", then you are just selling a regular PC that anyone could buy on every corner. Not sure what would be the point.

That's a lawsuit. Apple went after them and won.

3 years later and aside from just one of a slew of affected models they are charging their customers through the roof for a repair and telling them that the flexgate issue is a rumour.

My 2017 Macbook Pro 15 inch just started this exact same thing. The display actually started this a few weeks ago as I was just sitting with my laptop using it and my screen just went black. I tried opening and close it but nothing worked. I then discovered opening it slightly, the screen worked then opening it further, the whole screen cut out. I can't believe this is a known issue and Apple has done nothing to stand behind their product. Instead all they care about is making more profit instead of doing the right thing and repairing mine and other's machines. I had a feeling it was a cable before I even came across this issue because I could plug my laptop in an external monitor and get a display but after seeing this, I will not buy another Apple laptop if they can't stand behind their own product.

In Australia if people expect a product should last 5 years or so the supplier of product is compelled under Australian Consumer laws to repair or replace the faulty item, if it is a design issue they will have to replace for free the device or give the consumer their money back for selling a device that has a flaw in its design.

People keep thinking that warranty is the only thing that matters. People need to read up on "Consumer complaint ". Warranty is something the retailer or brand can offer. Consumer complaint is in the law and is in most cases always better than warranty. In this case Apple only gives 1 year warranty where here in Norway as an example, laptops usually have a 5 year Consumer complaint . If you didn't cause the issue, Consumer complaint should be valid, and it's valid for 5 years for laptops.
