I think that the Salt Lake City 2002 logo looks like both a torch and a snowflake and both of those things relate to the Winter Olympics. The torch is symbolic of the games while the snowflake resembles the fact that it was the Winter Olympics

It seems like just yesterday that these games were here in SLC. I was lucky enough to get to go to many events, but my most cherished memory is when I was standing directly below our 3 American flags as they flew at the medals ceremony when our snowboarders swept the podium! Chills ran down my spine and tears of pride rolled down my face as we sang our national anthem at the top of our lungs! The added bonus was getting to see The Foo Fighters rock the stage after the ceremony was over.

salt lake city's candidate logo was as strong as its official mark...perhaps even a bit more so. a well organized true winter games with a beautiful natural backdrop.

What surprised me about Salt Lake City 2002 was the performances by Bon Jovi and KISS during the closing ceremony. Utah is a very religious place that’s normally supposed to be quiet and peaceful at night so it’s a surprise that they allowed these performances by popular American rock bands, especially since KISS performed!
