The curves feature available in the software actually generates a 3d model and adjusts the laser to the contour of the curved piece. It is very impressive!

Love your review. I am so close to clicking order. Silly question though and maybe i missed it in your video... but can you scan something with cameras to turn it into what you want to engrave? Thanks and keep the videos coming
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
So the cameras on the engraver are used mainly for positioning and auto-focusing the laser and the design on the workpiece. Super easy to place the design where you need it! As far as scanning something, you can literally take a picture with your phone and set it in the software and start engraving it. That's what I did for the puzzle I burned in the video. Took a pic, put it in the software and hit start

@@burnstockwoodworking ok perfect. I think glowforge has that option but I'm not 100 percent sure just thought it would be a cool feature. No worries on it not existing though because it sounds like a pretty simple work around. I am completely new to laser. This will be my first one so I'm excited to follow your journey and start mine asap. Thank you for your response 🙂

The answer is yes. I watched a video of a guy scanning a vintage world map, importing it into the software, engraving it on the largest board that would fit inside the P2, and then performing finishing operations.

It is from a burst desiccate packet. It shouldn't be an issue, but the manufacturer could use plastic capsules with desiccate and never have this issue.
@burnstockwoodworking

Yep, the dessicate was the culprit.

If I was going to buy a laser, it would almost certainly be this one. It's just the right size I think I'd need, and has some incredibly cool options. Did you have to do any focusing with the mirrors?
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
No issues with the mirrors at all. I think they changed that entire setup. Looking at other review videos where they shot the tape on one side to adjust the mirror, that component wasn't even in the P2 they sent to me. I am loving it and blown away by how efficient it is. I think you'll like it as well, it's very easy to use.

@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
Good eye! I stopped the cut on that line as the pieces were slipping between the slat bed. The last row in particular was falling between the slats entirely. For puzzles or cuts I'd recommend getting a "honeycomb" cutting sheet. That will prevent the pieces from falling through the cracks as they're cut

I don't have a CNC but have had an engraver for a couple years now and I know the engraver adds a lot to business revenue and has different accessible price points. I do want a CNC soon, but I think you'd be good either route you take.

I believe you said it was a 5/8" piece of cedar, and you said 0.5 in the setting - could that have been the issue?
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
That was actually just me bumbling and fumbling like a fool. I had it set to the equivalent of 5/8 (.625), not sure why I said .5. I think I had the power just a hair too low and the speed just a little too fast. It cut most of the letters out with no issue, there were only two or three small areas on two letters that weren't completely all the way through.

Light burn should be able to do the camera… you just have to do all the configs for it… they want you to use the xtool app tho but if you’ve already bought lightburn you may as well use it. Just figure it out. I use the Roly lasermatic10 which is really good but not as powerful as that one. I just don’t want to get into the CO2 part of the laser engraving. I prefer the diode lasers because they’re so easy to maintain and use. You def don’t want to run your laser at 100% all the time. You’ll burn out the mirrors and laser tube faster. Be aware of that. There is a lot of maintenance to be done in the laser tubes. You should show that stuff on video because I’ve not seen much of how to do all that on KZbin. In fact I think you’re the first video I’ve seen where it shows someone doing the coolant filling… so doing some on that stuff might be good content.

Glad ya like the video. On XTool's website they do point out that the cameras aren't compatible with Lightburn, but I'm sure there is some sort of workaround that they haven't explored.

Just curious did you call customer support about your kitty litter issue?
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
I didn't see the need to as I'm sure it's not common for this to happen. It's the way the dessicant was placed under the slats that busted the bag. They've reviewed the video and are aware now. With that being the only real issue I had with the P2 I didn't see a need to reach out.
@MrKnotWright
@MrKnotWright Жыл бұрын
@Burnstock Woodworking I might have still let them know directly, one incase there were any performance issues with your machine and two so they could take some corrective measures like taping the desiccant in place
