The Brazilian league is too defensive. And the few talents in teams that play relationism do not get called up often because the squad is full of European expats. You can't play relationist, joga bonito with players who trained in defensive Brazilian teams as youth or play in positional and pragmatic teams in Europe. The style that allowed Brazil to become legendary is infeasible today. Diniz's Fluminense and his Brazil are night and day. Unless Diniz just calls up his Fluminense boys, he can't play his style there without problems. Brazil will never beat Europe at either pragmatic football or positional play (which their talent pool favours). European countries are the masters of these styles, not Brazil. So Brazil is screwed!

as a brazilian who’s watched football and our domestic league for decades now I agree with you in pretty much everything, apart from his Fluminense and Brasil teams being “night and day” and the idea that there’s just too many reasons for him to fail to implement his ideas on the national team of course the seleção isn’t doing well and it takes time for Diniz’s ideas to really flourish (in fact it took him SEVERAL years to get a significant trophy as a manager, just a few months ago with the Libertadores, despite numerous brilliant jobs previously when he fell just short for many title chances), but we can already see some of his ideas happening in a few moments of the last matches, despite them being very bad appearances overall the fact that our season is different from the european also makes it harder to blend with our players in Europe, the brazilian calendar is also the most chaotic in the world too, and there’s way less time for national team managers to work on a regular basis, but I believe that within an year Diniz could be able to make these players work in his system just as in Fluminense to me, his greatest mistake so far was the call-ups; if he gets the right and most promising names (ESPECIALLY for full backs and strikers) and call them consistently while also making the right subs to give opportunities to other prospects (another thing he didn’t do well so far too), then I think we’ll get to the 2026 WC with a great brazilian football team.

100% on the money. Last time they won the Cup in 2002 they had players that played in the Brazilian League. Argentina won the Cup with players that played in Argentina. The main problem is lack of good managers in Brazil. There's a reason so many players in brazil are so good for their club, but crap for the NT. There's a reason why Brazil wants Carlo Ancelotti, despite being a foreign manager. i could also add the BIG downgrade in fullback department, and also Striker. However, Brazil's hopes in attack seem to be bright with endrick anand vitor roque

At one point they had Cafu and Roberto Carlos as attacking fullbacks. You just cant get better than this. There was a phrase by a Argentinean coach (Ricardo Gareca) that really hit the nail with todays football and he mentioned how every country today is trying to copy European style of football and how South America has slowly been loosing its identity and trying very hard to copy Europes style of play when back then South America had its own style and unique type of players that truly resembled South Americas style. Today its almost or is already gone. Great video Vizeh! Happy for your 400k soon to come! Cheers :)

I won’t claim to know why Brazilian football has stopped producing stars. What I will say is Brazil’s biggest issue is that they have stopped producing world class midfielders. In 2002, Brazil had, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Gilberto Silva. Not to mention Emerson, Juninho & Zé Roberto who missed the tournament with last minute injuries. Football is won and lost in the midfield. There’s a reason Messi never won a World Cup until 2022. Argentina’s biggest weakness was their midfield until the introduction of Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Alexis Mac Allister & Enzo Fernández.

@@btb3614If you think about it, Spain 2010 all about mid control (Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Alonso, the amount of talent is ridiculous). Germany 2014 solid and technical proficient midfielders featuring Schwensteiger, Lahm, Muller, Ozil, Kroos. France 2018 with Kante-Pogba-Griezmann, amazing trio. Argentina 2022 with a very tough hard working but technical mid too + a very motivated Messi all over the pitch. Brazil need more talented midfielders. They need to take a page out of France's book. The thing about Le bleu is though they have the star players like benzema, zidane, henry, gerroud etc, the entire team even the bench aim to be just as good if not better than them. Their approach to football is very regimented and militant and they never back down even when losing. Mbappe has the same hunger and tenacity and warrior spirit as a prime Pele and will die to maintain that position. Brazil needs to push as hard as France in order to even be a formidable team by the next world cup. 🙏💯

Brazil messed up in the preparation for their next gen. Rodrygo and vini is the personification of all their current mistakes. They both have 6 goals out together and are still ‘babied’ to the point where they get away with their poor outcomes. Mbappe was being held accountable as a primary attacker from the age of 19. Vini is 23 and still does not act like a primary attacker for Brazil.

As a Newcastle fan, watching this is eye opening. I state such, as we've got big Joelinton, and Bruno, and seemingly, we were linked with many Brazilians. To prove this, we wanted Carlos before he went to Villa. We wanted Lodi from Atletico at some point. We also wanted Lucas Paqueta before he went to West Ham. Even wanted Raphinha. During that time of course, it did seem we were gonna become 'Brazilcastle' in terms of getting players from there and such. But it's mad how on the decline they are in this sense.

As a Brazilian, if I may, I'd like to add some insight: Those players are absolutely world-class on paper, but there are things in the club-level routine that cannot be implemented as fast or as correctly as they should be. I really think you'd be better w/them than without them in this context. But in the Seleção, they are just a bunch of starlets who are tactically lost and with no synergy whatsoever. Good luck for you guys in the PL! My 1st shirt was that beautiful Brown Ale one (97, i guess?)! :)

As a brazilian I have to say this, our future in terms of young talent is bright. Just to name a few we have for goalkeepers: Lucas Perri (Botafogo) Bro's a menance but ofc this season he had one of the worst mistakes ive ever seen. Bento (Athletico PR) my guy is probably top 5 Brazilian goalkeepers atm he's saved 5 pens this season and has made crucial saves, lastly Mycael (Athletico PR) Defense: Gabriel Moscardo (Corinthians) and Murillo (Nottingham Forest), Keyvson (Santos) and Lucas Beraldo (Sao Paulo), Vanderson (AS Monaco) Midfield: Andre (Fluminense) Pablo Maia (Sao Paulo) Victor Hugo (Flamengo) Alexsander (Fluminense) Andrey Santos (Chelsea), Joao Gomes (Wolves) and Marlon Gomes (Vasco Da Gama). ATTACK: Vitor Roque (Athletico PR), Endrick (Palmeiras), Marcos Leonardo (Santos), Kayky (Bahia) Igor Paixao (Feyenoord), Jhon Kennedy (Fluminense), Estevao Willian (Palmeiras), Luis Guilherme (Palmeiras), Angelo Gabriel (Strausbourg). Just to name a few 💀. And Fernando Diniz is a lot better than Tite, I hated Tite cause he ruined the National Team, only reason he didn't get fired earlier was because of 2019 Copa America win. But if I was Diniz right now, I would not call up Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, and Raphinha, cause they r terrible for Brazil right now, I would give some of the younger players I named a chance. Thats all I guess.

Brazilian speaking: one of the problems that I don't see being debated as much is there was no transition between the 2002 gen to the "neymar gen", ronaldinho and kaka would be responsible to make this transition and eventually pass the torch to neymar easily but r10 stopped taking the game seriously so he wasn't called for the 2010 wc, kaka had a bunch of injuries and neymar wasn't called for the 2010 wc to make the transition easier. the brazilian football confederation also doesn't help, they are more interested in politics then in the sport, with a bad presidents past where most if not all of them are in jail or facing charges . our current president stated that Ancelotti is the plan A,B and C putting a man in charge that has do manage between his club and the national team, Diniz had to think about the libertadores final and who he was going to call to play against colombia and argentina on the following day. Diniz also takes some of the blame trying to implement a style that requires time on a team that doesn't have that much time to train that makes players play worse than their usual just watch how Vini and Rodrygo play for real and how they where playing for Brazil, watch how Bruno plays for newcastle. We might have some good names for the future but with such a disorganized confederation we ain't winning shit

As a Brazilian, this all boils down to the CBF's monumental mismanagement of the seleção finally boiling down. They just don't have any long term plans. The overall structure of off-pitch leadership in the seleção is precarious and borderline non existant, for example, they don't even have a director of football, in-house psychologists or data analysts. We have the talent to win the competitions, we've always had, it's just that we're dealing with a difficult moment in our player catalog, since most of the best talents we have are still young and have just now started their careers in europe (like vitor roque, endrick, marcos leonardo, savio, beraldo, andrey santos etc) and the previous generation of players had mostly dissapointing careers ( lucas moura, alexandre pato, ganso, oscar) and the ones that didn't are now nearly at the end their careers (neymar, marcelo, casemiro). Also most brazilian managers suck in general due to the CBF's lacklustre course.

There's a column made by a colombian journalist for the newspaper called "El Espectador", which I proceed to translate (with support of Google, of course) because I think it's relevant for this video: *The origin of the Brazilian debacle.* _By: Jorge Tovar_ Brazil, heading to the 2026 World Cup, is fifth in the South American qualifiers. Something never seen. The reason for the Canarinha debacle was forged decades ago: the day they lost to Italy in 1982. The Spain 82's Brazil NT was a worthy successor to the great team of Mexico 1970. The happy and offensive game was faced against Italy after four victories whose football was forever recorded in those of us who were fortunate enough to see those matches. Telê Santana, like Zagallo in 1970, presented a dreaming midfield: Zico, Sócrates, Falcao and Toninho Cerezo. He also had some masterful full-backs: Leandro and Junior, especially. In the front, a _crack_ : Eder, and a dud: Serginho. Careca, who would later triumph alongside Maradona in Napoles, was injured, and Santana never trusted Roberto Dinamita. Brazil lost against Italy, 3-2. Paolo Rossi woke up from his lethargy, and taking advantage of some resounding mistakes by Serginho, Brazil incomprehensibly went home early. However, the beauty and aesthetics of Brazilian football was such that Telê Santana stayed on the NT bench. The team he took to Mexico was not individually the same as '82. More importantly, Zico played injured. He missed a penalty against France in the quarterfinals, and then another miss by Socrates in the penalties shootout sent them home again. In Brazil they arrived to a conclusion: _jogo bonito_ does not triumph, the physical strength of European football does. So in 1994, with Carlos Alberto Parreira as coach and Dunga, a rocky and inelegant midfielder, who served as leader on the field, the worst Brazil seen to that date won the World Cup final on penalties against Italy. Brazil has always had great footballers. In 1994, Bebeto and especially Romario were great enough. Subsequently, a crop of geniuses overcame the poor aesthetics of the coaches, and won the 2002 World Cup: Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Cafú. Not even Parreira could make them play in ugly fashion. Scolari coached them, but even though they were champions, their aesthetic potential was never fully exploited. Neither clubs nor national teams has there had a Brazilian team that we love again. Now they are students of The System. Which system? Anyone except the offensive one with which Telê Santana, coaching São Paulo, defeated Barcelona and Milan in two intercontinental finals. Brazilian football has failed in its structure: coaches who only look for results, who sometimes achieve them because there are great footballers still emerging. But as soon as the raw material fails, or requires precise adjustments, the national team disappoints. Diniz, champion with Fluminense, after hanging between the posts against a poor Boca, coaches Brazil with a “Guardiola-ish” way. Brazil needs to review its history, retrieve its idiosyncrasy, play the football that made them what they are and forget to follow the European mirror (a mirror, by the way, Spain proved against, when they adopted a more South American style). Maybe Guardiola could help them, not Ancelotti. Brazil does not need to become more Europeanized. They need a European to remind them how good South Americans can be.

I know recent results under Diniz haven't been great, but there has been positive periods where functionality is starting to stick. He was unlucky to lose Neymar to his injury, who was the only player who actually seemed to get the tactics from the off. But I don't believe what people are saying, that these players are beyond any hope of ever learning the system. Many of them, like Guimaraes, have the attributes to succeed in this system, but he can't work with them week in, week out like he could if he had them at club level. I think Diniz should be given time, even if it takes a year, to mould the team in his image and make a proper go of it.

As brazilian, I'll have to confess something here: it's absolutely sad to see my national team playing a so poor football and getting no longer respected for other teams. This is because the corruption on CBF destroyed the team into the pitch. They sold the national team for Nike, so from 1997 they can choose the 11 first, the place of the match, and the rivals as well. Brazilian national team is no longer a football team. It's a "company" looking for profit and interest only

It feels like whenever Brazil plays, their identity has changed. Even when teams lose, every team plays with a core around which the tactics and players run. Brazil's core changes every match, sometimes every half. It is not viable with sub-par coaches either cuz Brazil had an elite team the last 3-4 years. Ancelotti could be a major solution but I think even that needs time due to the differences between the European and South American Leagues. That may affect the dressing room conversations as well.

From the outside looking in, i'd say it's a matter of whoever is manager building the team around Vinicius Jr. Neymar is past it now, he's out in Saudi Arabia playing Sunday League football, so personally speaking i'd be dropping anyone who is playing there as that standard is way off the pace. I'd select only players who are in Europe's Elite leagues because that's where the best players will generally be playing, and i'd be looking at what Real Madrid do to get the best out of Vinicius Jr and basically replicating that

In my opinion, it is just a cyclic moment. They need to find a replacement to Neymar, he failed to be a generational leader. The biggest worry is that, there is no more great "magician" in this team or great forward either : Bruno Guimarães and Lucas Paqueta, who can be the next great ballers of this team, aren't playmakers like Rivaldo, Ronaldinho or Neymar (we don't even know their best position, box-to-box rather than straight 10), Richarlison and Vinicius aren't R9 or Adriano for sure, there is no more good LWs and RWs (Emerson Royal isn't Dani Alves or Marcelo, definitely). Brazilian football lost its flair, because they want to be in European standards (transition tactics, gegenpressing), there is way too much pressure on young prospects (Vitor Roque and Endrick, who don't even have 50 matchs in pro, are sent to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid because they have some skills, and they will not play much more in these teams), and... Brazilian football is boring. As a brazilian football watcher, I saw Flamengo-Atletico Mineiro for the race for the title, it is painful to watch, no creativity, no game sequences, many long balls. Plus, there is no brazilian coach relevant, because players behave like spoiled kids (I always remembered when Dorival, the Santos FC coach, benched Neymar, his father called the president to ask for his sack, that sums up the reality of a brazilian coach). The most respected coaches in Brazil are portuguese (Abel Ferreira, Jorge Jesus), because they shout on players and they are ready to confront them. Plus, they won titles (and titles lead to respect). In my mind, the Seleção coach should be either Abel Ferreira, Jorge Jesus, or José Mourinho.

It would be shocking to JUST start finding a replacement. Mbaple was being held accountable as a primary attacker in France from the age of 19 and historically most of Brazil’s greats have shown their brilliance from a young age. Rodrygo and Vini should have been treated as serious attacking outlets from the start rather than hiding under the wing of Neymar.

One detail that Brazil has clearly lagged behind Argentina as its comparatively regional rival: Managers. I'm not saying it is the ONLY point, but Argentina has a way better pool of managers that Brazil is not even close to. At the start of the Conmebol qualifiers 7 out of 10 managers were Argentinians (now they are 6? 5? still, an insane number) besides many big names in Europe (Simeone, Pochettino) also having different coaching "styles" (Menottismo vs Bilardismo; Bielsismo, Bianchismo, Gallardismo). A lot has been said about the relationalism in Brazil, but Argentinian management style has been overlooked in most analysis.

As a Brazillian, I think we need a project, a long term one, to succeed in international football again, much like France. France has been on multiple finals since 98 and they probably will be at the finals again in the next world cup. To achieve that kind of consistency you can't just look at current run, you gotta build towards multiple ones. Unless we realize that, we won't have the same success we had in past again, we might win a tournament but just winning a title doesn't guarantee a strong foundation. The world is catching up to us, we're now starting to lose to African teams and we're no longer have the upperhand in South America. Even though a foreign manager could be really helpful in this rebuilding process, I think Diniz can have a great future in the Brazil's national team, he's young and full of fresh ideas (which is what we need) that can help move Brazilian football forward, but he needs time and Brazillian fans and Brazillian media only care about immediate results so...

Just a minor correction, they won the Confederations Cup in 2013 so that’s two international trophies since 2007. Also Brazil haven’t had a world class striker since Ronaldo. They’ve produced world class players in every other position over the past twenty years, but not one world class number 9. Vitor Roque is their next big hope. We shall see what happens when he joins Barcelona. I know people will mention Endrick, but many in Brazil have tipped him to play either out wide or as a 10 long term.

Brazil players mostly ply their trades in Europe and has been europeanised. You can't ingrain joga bonito into them anymore. While there were arguments about picking a team full of stars playing in the brasilierao, the issue is how good is the brasilierao as compared to the European leagues? It doesn't help when the biggest stars in brasilierao are all picked by big European teams, with endrick and vitor roque making the move even before turning 20. Another issue is the lack of world class managers in brazil. As compared to our deadly rivals Argentina, how many Brazilian managers manage in Europe big 5 leagues? Argentina has bielsa, simeone, Pochettino while I can't remember any brazil managers managing in Europe. This shows the lack of tactical acumen and understanding of the modern game. The lack of discipline of brazil players are a big problem as well, look at Adriano, Ronaldinho, Oscar etc. all potential world beaters but succumb to injuries, partying and money which ruin their careers so early. As such, I truly think brazil needs to adapt to European style of play to win the wc, given that so many players now play in Europe. While there might be a big drop-off in terms of quality brazil has produced, there still vini jr, rodrygo, martinelli, vitor roque, savinho, endrick, Marcos Leonardo who can form the next nucleus of attack for the NT. In mf, play a more regimental and disciplined approach and brazil still has options in here: Douglas Luiz, Bruno, joelinton, Joao Gomes, Andre with the creativity output be produced by paqueta. Fullbacks are a big problem but instead of choosing Emerson and lodi, why don't give a chance to Lino, Carlos augusto, Caio Henrique, vanderson and Yan couto? This is where I get frustrated by diniz, who don't give these players a chance. Militao and bremmer will be the first choice pairing with beraldo and marquinhos(for experience) as the back up. Brazil still can form a very good team. It's just they need a more European style manager to bring them back where they belong
