In other words, bassoons became more and more expensive through the ages until the point that nobody can afford one anymore.

BurlinghamVideo Some Bassoons have an Extra Key that allows you to play one more note lower than Bb down to Low A. They worked around the Intonation issues by tweaking the placement & size of the tone holes.

This is so good! So instructive and clear. The lower register of the baroque bassoon is amazing. Congratulations, it's a fantastic upload. Nice image and sound quality!

Wow, I'd love to hear the quartet of bassoons in the Verdi Requiem played on original instruments! I just love the sound, as you say, of the early bassoon's bass notes :-) ;-)

That baroque really does have a rich tone on the really notes.

Why on earth would you use a plastic bassoon for a demonstration of the sound of a modern bassoon? I've played that exact model and it sounds awful; it's nothing like the sound of a proper wood bassoon.

For some reason, the Baroque sounds the best and the modern one sounds the worst. I guess that's because it's plastic while the other ones are wood, but the sound seems to get worse towards the changing time periods.
