It drives me insane when people do this. It's usually the ONLY thing reactors ask, and so many can't do it. If you can't trust yourself to not spoil things, then just go rewatch them on your own. Don't spoil it for other people.

​@@camannwordsmithexactly. A few videos ago (i think it for 'The Idiot's Lantern'), I remember someone commenting about things that are happening in recent episodes. They were more like theories, but still mentioning future events aren't necessarily. It doesn't help that what they were saying wasn't at all connected to the episode being reacted to, so it was definitely done carelessly...

@@camannwordsmith The main problem is that everyone has a different idea about what constitutes a spoiler, and virtually no one takes time to consider that other people's definitions are different from their own, and so they just spoil things without realizing.

Gabriel Woolf played the Beast he was in Dr Who in 1975 at a baddie connected to the Beast. He was in his 70’s here. Still working at 91 years old as a voice actor.

There's a door open/close noise used in these two episodes that was used in the original Doom games. I heard it and was instantly transported back into hell.

Yeah, it's from the Sound Ideas library...or wherever that was sourced from in the first place. I believe it was supposed to be some kind of futuristic motor malfunction, which was shortened.

21:10 Rose remembered/realised something very important: The Beast says "I shall never die!"... But Rose realises, "No... but you can still be *trapped*... as in, "imprisoned forever inside a Black Hole"...

Truly one of the most terrifying one-off villains of the series. The fact that you can be in a sci-fi setting and find the characters up against the literal devil is not something you'd normally expect.

The ancient Time Lord leader Rassilon did invent the Eye of Harmony by containing a black hole, and using it to power time travel. In essence, the TARDIS is powered by black holes.

So yeah, a TARDIS's powersource is literally a collapsed star forever on the verge of being a black hole. most of the lore around that was added in the 70s.

She had to make sure she killed him properly, send him absolutely and completely into the black hole. Toby was just the body, if she’d killed him then ans there in the ship it could have just gone and possessed one of the others. She had to make sure he was out of the rocket

A lot of people don’t get why rose shot the glass. If she shot toby the beast wouldve passed into someone else, sucking him into the black hole was the only way to truly kill it. She couldn’t care less if she or the others died trying to stop it, remember you said it yourself she’s becoming very doctor like.

Time Lords can take a beating. But in this case there was tech that allowed an air cushion to break the fall. This was a truly amazing episode. One of the best of series two.

Interesting thing in this episode: With the Doctor absent/out of contact, Rose is constantly being the morale booster/"positivity" booster/"trouble" shugger-off-er... no matter what occurs to the people/beings around her. That's a habit she's picked up from the Doctor. It's a characteristic of all of the NuWho Doctors, in fact.

The part that always gets me is Rose even if the doctor was dead would have stayed. Her line is so heartbreaking "I'm telling you he's not... Even if he was how could I leave him? All on his own all the way down there." even if the doctor was dead she would have stayed so he wouldn't have to be alone... I'm fine... 😭😭😭😭😭😭

The writing and acting was top notch, The emotion and fear, showed through out 😮 I believe as a companion you would have jumped with the doctor and told " well get back in the pit" This was a terrifying episode 😳

6:12 The cable would _definitely_ have been very heavy. Remember, there was 10 miles of it. Assuming the cable was one inch diameter braided steel, which is fairly typical for elevators, the whole thing would have weighed 62 tons.

"Gravity schmavity" is such a Doctor Who way of explaining away how the TARDIS can do pretty much anything. I mean ofcourse, it makes sense. Obviously the TARDIS isnt affected by a tiny little issue like gravity, when the entire story is built around what a massive danger the gravity of the black hole is.

The whole idea of a stable orbit around a black hole being impossible is wrong too. Stay outside the event horizon and go fast enough then you can be in orbit - probably not a good idea though.

Given what we know at this point in universe of what torchwood is (founded by queen victoria in tooth and claw to fight the doctor and other aliens, Harriet Jones using them in a christmas invasion, etc) i like to think that Cross Flane, representing the torchwood archives had some idea who the doctor was. The Beast always reminded me of a villain from the old show, 8th Doctor. Fenric, which was meant to be an embodiment of evil that used imagery from theology (in his case Norse mythology) came from before the dawn of time and was trapped in a flask, while the Beast, also possibly from before time, was trapped by a mechanism using two vases of a similar shape to that flask. If you ever watch any old Who, I'd recommend The Curse of Fenric 🙂

The CGI work on the devil holds up nicely in my opinion. Doctor Who CGI gets such a bad rep because it’s not “blockbuster level” BUT, I think many shots - not all - from the show hold up well after all this time. It’s a relatively small TV budget so all the effects had to be sparing.

The first time I watched these episodes, I interpreted the Beast in the pit as just a previous creature that the Beast spirit possessed and not its original body, but I think during a recent rewatch it sounded more like it was its original body.

This two parter really keeps you on your toes and makes you feel unsettled which i think is the idea. The Beast is never actually said to be the devil but its highly implied that it is. Even the Doctor doesnt acknowledge it being the devil which i think is a interesting idea cause even the doctor is unsettled by it. Although he accepts he exists

It's not exactly the Christian devil. This beast is the creature that all religions based the devil on, as The Doctor said it's the truth behind the myth. They arent outright saying the devil exists, but that this creature inspired that much fear that religions used his image and personality as the basis for the devil.

To me, this is RTD's finest hour as a DW writer. And no, it's not the literal devil of the bible. It's the alien creature that inspired demonic evil of lots of faiths.
