What most may not know is, there were two other Borgia Popes. And neither of them were like Rodrigo Borgia. Pope Callixtus III, Alfons De Borgia and Pope Innocent X, Giovanni Batista Pamphili. Giovanni Battista Pamphili was born in Rome on 5 May 1574, the son of Camillo Pamphili, of the Roman Pamphili family. The family, originally from Gubbio, was directly descended from Pope Alexander VI, a.k.a. Rodrigo Borgia. I watched The Borgia and followed the movie along with history that was written about the family. I have to say Michael Hirst was right on target with the writing, filming and reenactments, and yes they are my ancestors on my dads side.

..I first read about this Pope Alexander VI (Borgia) in Mario Puzo's novel THE FAMILY. Though it's fictional, the way Puzo wrote and portrayed Borgia and his children was sorta accurate. it's interesting how, when i first started doing research on him, i read everywhere that his name was rodrigo lanzol. until his uncle became pope, and then he took the borgia name from his mothers' side... it's also interesting that he was accepted as a borgia during a time when sexism ruled and children took the last names of their fathers. sooo surprising that the sexist catholic church accepted him with his mothers maiden name. anyhow, the guy reminds me of justin trudeau, who was also born without a moral or ethical acumen.
