The 🎶twist at the end🎵 is actress Susan Twist's name being in the end credits. She's been in every episode this season + Wild Blue Yonder in minor roles like Newton's maid and the tea lady in Devil's Chord. It's a meta hint at this season having a Susan plot twist.

I really enjoy that they did the same thing with having the lingering power of Maestro being the reason for the song like the Toymaker's being able to duplicate the Tardis. I think that the Sonic was just taking the principle of noise cancelling headphones to the extreme. Also I know it's because you recorded straight after but Maestro uses They/Them not She/Her and they explicitly said that they wanted to extend the Aeolian sound across the universe as pure music without human involvement. And the lady singer was Cilla Black a massive singer and contemporary of the Beatles who went on to be a staple of British TV.

Just a theory but ... With the 6 month jump I think it's just because this series was supposed to air in January but they wanted the episode to feel relevant so tweaked this in reshoots when they realised it was going to pushed back.

A Christmas carol did a better job of using a song to save the day and that wasn’t even a music themed episode

I think the Sonic was just doing a wide-field noise cancelling, no? Like noice cancelling headphones. That's what I assumed. It is a *sonic* screwdriver so it makes far more sense that it could do something like that (compared to re-making barbed wire).

We need a sequel where Maestro partners with the silence to fight the Doctor

I really thought I would hate this episode. To my shock I really enjoyed it. Showing my age here ( and possibly because of the 1960s setting) its quirky elements reminded me of The Avengers TV show ( NOT Marvel) with Patrick Macnee & Diana Rigg. Ncuti is growing on me. Finally he shows he is more than a grinning winker😉. He even explains why he smiles so much. As minor a gripe as it is I cannot believe they couldn't find 4 actors ( or even just Paul & John) that didn't at least have a passing resemblance to The Fab 4. As to Conor's point I'm pretty sure the kid with Maestro WILL return he is called Harbinger which literally means "something that foreshadows a future event" I feel this may end up being the most divisive episode of the series. I can't believe I liked it but I did.

Damn I feel like I had the complete opposite reactions to both episodes 😅 I thought Space Babies was like a 5/10, and Devils Chord was around an 8.5. Space babies had way too much Chibnal-esque exposition, with Baby Geniuses level humor and effects 😬 I'd rather show the family the music notes effect than the farting space babies and the BOOGEYman 😂 Devils Chord wasn't perfect, but it's more what I'm looking for in Doctor Who. But I dont want to be a big hater 😅 I wasn't a big fan of Church on Ruby Road, but after a rewatch yesterday, I definitely liked it a lot more. I'd say a binge watch at the end of the season will help a lot.

I agree as well, was looking forward to this review but feeling a bit flat from it. Maybe it’s a different energy if you watch both episodes back to back. I reckon a 2nd watch is well worth it 😊

I thought it was pretty much opposite of Chibnall - who the doctor was and her background was revealed to her companions slowly over years, not in one info dump

I'm completely the opposite. I found Jinx really grating and too OTT. I know she comes from a theatrical background but I think she really needed to dial it back a bit.

Surprisingly I've enjoyed "Space Babies" more. And I really hate babies. I was expecting to be disapointed, cause ususally when they release more episodes at once means the first ones are not the best representations of the show, but I prefer the first one. And also, don't want to be a hater. I liked the episode, I just felt it was less Doctor Who? Less SF and much more Fantasy. And it's nice to have them every now and again, but the show just started. Can't wait for what Moffat have in store.

I think honestly this episode needed a slightly longer runtime and a few tweaks in the final act because everything was going great until they went back to 63. From that point I was completely lost in what was actually happening and why it was happening and by the time I got a chance to process everything the musical number started and I just wanted to turn off the tv because it was so out of place and weird. definitely felt like this episode needed to be reshot/ reworked because it felt like it was missing an entire subplot and build up to how we’re going to beat the boss and just jumped to the end. Also I agree that the final song should definitely have been slightly more Beatles esq. because as someone who loves musicals and the beatles that song was awful.

I told you, it’s done. Let it go 😔 I still watched because I needed to know but Russel has completely lost touch with the audience. I do not feel like I’m watching doctor who, even with all the faults of the previous era I still felt like Jodie was the doctor. Something about this era reminds me of the dark days of Colin Baker, I remember being a kid & feeling like he was an imposter. The musical should have built up to it, the way it was introduced in such an abrupt manner was disjointed & it started at 11 & maintained that dynamic. No crescendo! It was all autotune.
