Diagnosed back in '07 and it was depressing to take the medicine and it was not working. Then one day on the clearance shelf of the book section in a local Wal-Mart "The New Diabetes revolution" by Dr. Atkins showed up. Had always heard so many people critical of Atkins. But, I figured, since the mainstream advice was not working why not try this and the book didn't cost very much either. The information it contains is priceless. This new way of thinking turned things around. In 6 months my A1C went from 10.4 to 5.2 and I went from feeling like an 80 year old to feeling like I was 20 again. Before I didn't give it much thought, but now I know the power of food, especially the right food. So, every one there is hope as long as we are willing to change and challenge the system that is failing us all. You get diagnosed and what do they tell you to do? Eat even more sugar and carbs. This is like feeding rat poison to a rat and keeping him alive by giving enough vitamin K to just barely counter act the poison. WHY ADA?!

Absolument. Agree with everything you say. I'm not diabetic but I know a few people who are and have always been genuinely confused about the way they handle their illness. Now I get it, their health provider tells them to do so! Unbelievable.

Such a good movie, thank you ❤️ I spent a year in Tahiti 20 years ago. I was shocked by the terrible habits and lack of campaign or guidelines to raise public concern on diabetes. Kids as young as 3 years old dragging 1.5l of coke to school, rotten teeth. And no one seemed alarmed about it. I knew instantly this would quickly turn to disaster. I see now the diabetes rate is 25% there 😥 Beautiful place. Beautiful people. But sadly no awareness until too late.

I was diagnosed type 2 at age 40...in 1998. Right away I went low carb ketogenic (Atkins back then). I am here to tell you it saved my future. 26 years later I have no diabetic complications. Low carb does work over the very long term. Was I perfect with this? Heck no there were two periods I went off the wagon and it did hurt me.

If you eat the standard American diet, you must assume you're at least pre-diabetic.

The food companies and big pharma have a lot to answer for. They blame people for their own conditions but when I was diagnosed with type 2 I was told by my medical advisor to eat little and often (this keeps your glucose on a steady high) also low fat (most low fat products are either higher in sugar or sugar replacement which are worse). I followed Dr Jason Fungs advice of intermittent fasting and low carb and I've reversed my diabetes and all the other medical problems thar go with it. The medical care givers need to be re education and big pharma should stop making money out of diabetes, we are cash cows for the food companies and big pharma who are all the same run companies. My advice to anyone is follow dr Jason fung he will change your life.

Thank You NHS. Have cancer which has slowed me down over the past years and recently diagnosed as diabetes 2. Trying without drugs and lost a stone. All treatments free apart from optician (free eye test, pay for glasses) and dentist - no NHS ones in my area. So lucky when I see people on my level of income in the richest economy in the world having to forgo medical treatment because of cost. Wonderful documentary has made me wake up and treat the disease more seriously, thank you.

I think you should have explained in more detail that type 1 and type 2 are two different things. Type 1 is an autoimmune condition and type 2 is because of bad diet and can be avoided and reversed. As Dr. Ken Berry says type 2 isn't named correctly, it should be called CTS (Carbohydrate Toxicity Syndrome). Frustrating that all through the doc everyone uses the word "diabetes" describing both versions.

What will inhaled insulin do to your nose and lungs over time???? We see that insulin cause extreme fat collection in the cells where it is injected. Inhaled insulin sound scary.

To sum this doc up… diabetes sucks, you don’t want to develop it. That’s it. No clear stance on what causes it, on how to avoid developing it, on how to manage it, or how to reverse it. Three theories expressed by interviewees. Don’t eat fat, don’t eat carbs, and don’t eat at all. Fence sitting is just a fancy term for risk aversion. Take a stance, don’t be scared.

I loved the movie. Through and after watching it I documented myself about all the questions that arose in my mind towards diabetes. I learned so much. That movie helped raise awareness for me. Did it spoon-feed me? No. But then again I'm a grown up so I guess that's ok. Gratefulness goes a long way.

Help me to understand people why it is that when you start showing that you've gained weight and you're becoming fat why the hell you don't do something about it

Poor education on food. Anyone trying to loose weight and eating carbs, low fat products are on a road to nowhere. I did all the diets since 18 and exercised but still ended up overweight and type 2 diabetic and it wasn't until I educated myself and followed Dr Jason Fung that I've reversed my type 2 and am at a 'normal' weight and I'm coming up to 60. You can't blame people for following the wrong advice that we have been given by medical care.

IMHO pre-diabetes is when your blood glucose. is fine, but your insulin is high.
@earlfithian2147
@earlfithian2147 Ай бұрын
Agreed, early stages the beta cells are producing much more insulin in order to compensate for the rise in glucose. This additional insulin will allow, at least in the short terms, glucose levels to appear normal while at the same time insulin levels have increased dramatically. Testing only glucose levels may give one a false picture, a rising gap between insulin and glucose would give a much more accurate picture.

This sounds like a delusional shift of blame on to doctors without putting the responsibility of what the type 2 diabetic patient puts in their mouths on the patient themselves. A doctor cannot live with the patient and make them not drink sugary sodas and alcohol. If the type 2 patient wants to control their diabetes they must start with their own self-control and own up to a personal lack of self-control. It is no fun to exercise self-control and not eat crap and drink crap, but that is what it takes. Don't infantize people! Teach people to have self-control. This concerns people with Type-2 diabetes, and is not directed to those with Type 1, which is an auto-immune condition.

Self control has nothing to do with it when over 70% of the products in the grocery store contains toxic amounts of sugar. Victims are you.
