Newton had to self fund the publishing of his theory of relativity. The RÑGS published Pepys, History of fish.

31:55. Am I hearing that correctly? "And then home to my flagellate".? What does that mean? I've only heard the word "flagellate" used by way of whipping oneself, and that definitely doesn't sound like something Pepys would do so I'm at a loss to understand it.

Flageolet: a type of instrument. Apparently Pepys was a notable amateur player of the French flageolet.

I think the narrator doesn't speak French otherwise he would hv taken care to pronounce it correctly, aware of the similarity with the English word in question and any ensuing confusion.
