Some DA's and cops are horrible about overcharging. Judges should crack down on this.

Sadly people are judgmentle my friend was charged with a felony and people treat her like she is a monster. People change people go through struggles. Be kind to everyone.

Agreed! Sometimes people don’t make the best decisions when they are younger. It’s better to treat them according to who they are today, not who they were yesterday.

@MyDcLaw Especially when the person had an undiagnosed mental illness at the time and lost a parent and sibling at a young age. Sadly, many people turn to addiction to cope.

I know your answer is DC specific, however, there are cases where a misdemeanor can bring some of the lifetime legal consequences of a felony in other states. There is also the "misdafelony" - a term any Massachusetts attorney who deals with gun law probably knows. A "misdafelony" is a state crime defined as a misdemeanor by the state, but treated as a felony for the purposes of USC 18 922(g). Specifically, this is any misdemeanor that has a potential sentence of more than 2 years (just about any misdemeanor in MA, including first offense OUI). This means that many Massachusetts misdemeanons are, for the purposes of federal law, disqualified for life from possessing firearms or ammo in any US state, district or territory.

Does a misdemeanor keep someone from moving to Brazil? Or from having a good job?

Hey I’m asking this for a friend. My friend was involved in a hit and run and she fled the scene she cause minor damage to the car she hit and she was trying to get a job but they ran her background and the report came back as she had a active warrant for her arrest on a misdemeanor hit n run. What she should she do? She doesn’t have much money for a lawyer or the fees for the property damage because she can’t get a job it’s sucks to see her in this position I want to help but I don’t know much I hope to hear from you soon.

Nothing will likely happen if she doesn’t eventually clear that warrant. She would probably need a lawyer to figure out how best to do that. If she can’t forward a lawyer of her own, she will have one appointed to her. You always have a right to a lawyer if you are facing a criminal charge.

Hey Hannah, misdemeanor domestic can help get a job than aggravated battery felony?
@MyDcLaw2 жыл бұрын
Most misdemeanors are going to be better than having a felony charge. But I can’t say whether any specific criminal charge will “help“ you get a job though. Hope that helps!

Misdemeanor was the tomboy girl down the street, Felony was the girl we were told to stay away from growing up..
