The difference between Carnival in Trinidad, Salvador & Rio

I wish there was a way to cross cultures more between us in Brazil and Trinidad. Our countries should do some sort of event to bring the Trinidadian carnival to Brazil and take the Brazilian carnival to Trinidad.

The Brazilian style carnival wouldn't work in Trinidad. They're very wild and unruly. A LOT of what goes on down there during wouldn't fly in Trinidad.

This kind of analysis is good and I being Brazilian would like to contribute. RIO DE JANEIRO CARNIVAL - Samba schools parade on the so-called "sambodromo" circuit featuring floats, with percussionists, dancers, and costumed women very similar to what their women wear at Caribbean street parties. There are also street carnival in Rio de Janeiro driven by sound trucks where bands play Brazilian music. To watch the carnival parade in the "sambodromo" you need to buy tickets, while to participate in the street carnival you spend nothing but drinks. SALVADOR CARNIVAL - is the largest street in Brazil. Conducted by music bands that play Brazilian music, Caribbean music and world music in the sound trucks known as "electric trios". Even Salvador's music, rhythms and dance sounds a lot like Caribbean music because Salvador's population is of mixed race and descent from the same black Africans. There are sound trucks that do not charge tickets and there are others that offer safety and comfort to people. It is also possible to watch the parade of sound trucks in nightclub-like structures known as cabins, these charge expensive for the entrances. RECIFE CARNIVAL - The city of Recife is famous in Brazil for the rhythm street carnival called "frevo" which is a song played by bigbands specialists in this kind of rhythm also accompanied by professional dancers and ordinary people who enjoy the party. When I watch Caribbean carnival videos, I don't see violence despite alcohol, sexy women and loud sound. If so, the Caribbean brothers are very lucky because this combination in Brazil is explosive. I hate that our (Dominica) carnival is the same time as Brazil and Trinidad's. We hardly get any exposure. I'm sure not one of local songs (bouyon) play in any of your sets. Oh well...

I'm sure yours is a lot more peaceful and inexpensive with everyone more well behaved. I have a good girl friend of mine from Dominica. Such a angel. Unfortunately it's kinda hard much of the time to get to Roseau AIrport from my city. My friend usually has to take 3 different planes to go home.

Alot of Carnivals have moved to not contend with the big three (Brazil, Columbia, and Mardi Gras) . It has been profitable, you should suggest it

@@WalshyFireColumbia?? I’m sure trinidad carnival way more appealing than Columbia….and possibly maradi grass as well. Trinidad has to be in the big three, since there’s more to see and do, in New Orleans all they do is drink get drunk and ask women to bare their chest for beads, what’s the cultural experience in that boring run of the mill activity??

@@anthonyblackman7669 if you have not been to Colombia and Mardi Gras, where are you speaking from to be “sure”? Secondly this is a convo of numbers. Colombias Baranquilla Carnival is the second largest in the world after Brazil. How do you even think slightly they wouldn’t have way more to offer. Same with Mardi Gras, it’s in a huge city with tons of things to do carnival and non carnival related. Millions of people go to these carnivals, you should ask them why. And I guarantee those millions of people have never heard of Trinidad Carnival. Trinidads Tourism has done a horrible job promoting Trinidad outside of the diaspora. Third Mardi Gras is a insanely good cultural experience with African stories told thru the whole thing. If you think it’s just beads and drinks your just leading with misinformation, not experience. Anyone could look at Trini carnival thru pics and ignorantly say the same. That’s why these convos are so important. We have to step outside our comfort bubble and experience the world
