Chinatown is a project that developed and materialized rapidly in 2019. Several questions such need to be answered. "How did it start? What per cent of it is finished? How do vendors and the business community feel about the project?" Hopefully, this video helps explain the project and its various different elements to possibly come in the future.

The loan that this country took from china will take years to repay plus the interest on those loans Trinidad like African countries are selling out their nations to the Chinese in the short run it looks good on paper but in the long run the debt will be so great that the people of Trinidad will be paying more on taxes to satisfy this huge debt for years to come.

Well to me Chinatown is not a bad idea in a sense. Chinese culture have been present in Trinidad for quite a long time, longer than even the East Indian culture and we celebrate most of their heritage in this country. If you wanna be technical about Chinese heritage in POS was especially significant. One have to view it in the same frame as the First People requesting a holiday and even a village. China growing geopolitical presence is concerning but once the kinks have been worked out in relation of diversified employment, Chinatown would be a nice addition to the commerce in POS. Besides most of the best deals in Charlotte street come from the Chinese stores.

Some people will take offense to this. Others will see it as an opportunity $$. The tourism alone that this can (potentially) bring makes it a good investment, with the port right there. @@ratmanmaraj8749 What does T&T have to sell out to China? China produces almost every product imaginable, you produce nothing but that which you lay down in the toilet. You are consumers, and that's why China is here, to sell you their cheaply made products and create employment for their people. Trinidadians never owned anything, all its natural resources are owned and controlled by foreign powers, ie; British Petroleum and Amoco since 1856. Here is some FREE education for you; The largest natural deposits of Oil and Gas in the world lay between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, potentially the richest countries in the world, but is among the poorest. "The wise shall live off the fools" Q; If there is as they say "no more Oil in T&T" Why is BP"s biggest operation and Office is still located in Trinidad? Q; How did Queen Beatrix get a cut in the market in T&T to setup her Shell gas station? As a citizen of T&T, try to open a gas station business. Understand this, my friend, you are all still slaves, the new chains are economic and policy, along with religion and bogus education designed to indoctrinate you into a foolish conformist. To all the "Yes men" wear your face mask, wash your hands obey the Government, you are now back to kindergarten level again. They control you, and you have no freedom. The Imperial powers created this game and the rules of it, you can never beat them at their game, as they have the power to even change the rules while the game is in play so that you will never move ahead.

Very sceptical. Mainly concerned with the removal of locals to make room for Chinese business. There are Chinatowns in a lot of big cities in the US but when you walk thru them there are only Chinese business establishments. Charlotte St has a history of small LOCAL business which would not seem to mesh with the Chinatown concept. Another issue for me is the secrecy in putting up the arches. When things are done like that it usually means some kinda of ratcheefee ting goin on. Thirdly, foreign Chinatowns have their own “security” Tong force, bringing another element of criminal enterprise to a country with just too much crime. Finally, why would any Trinbagonian welcome turning over any part of Trinidad and Tobago to a foreign country, especially such an important and crucial part of downtown Port of Spain? First thought that occurs to me is that China is calling dat shot because of the very large debt we have accrued. Should have been expected tho, that has been the Chinese modus operandi for years!

All this China bashing is unfounded. Being an Overseas Chinese myself, I have witnessed massacres against my people in the 60's and all those fear mongering of the Chinese takeover is BS. In the end, we Overseas Chinese are part of the society and citizens of the country who help built my country with our great economic contribution. BTW, Tong force? Trust me, Chinese people will be the victim of hate crimes and Sinophobia everywhere they go. They don't have any security at all, even the police will try to harass the Chinese for bribes. The Chinese are the most persecuted race after the Black people. Being an Overseas Chinese I know that.

@jeffersgrell8084 Do you know who the chinese are, do you think theyre poverty striken people from sub Sahara africa, chinese are a major merchant race. Trinidad managing to have a china town is a big feat only developed and significant countries have chinatowns, see it as a badge of honour. The arches are a distinct feature in all chinatowns around the world without it itll be a fake chinatown. Trini is inthe same league as us,uk,canada, Australia, japan, south korea now. Chinatown this is very confusing how they are going about doing this not sure if it will work the mayor should be having town hall meetings to explain and sell his ideas to the people not force on them more consultation with the vendors on the street is needed or perhaps he plans on just removing them and replacing them with Chinese vendors. Lots of questions here and few answers. I am sure your video will get things rolling good luck.

Greetings from Toronto. You did a great job of informing us to what's going on in Trinidad. This issue of Chinese colonialism seems have caught a lot of us off guard. Sadly, your culture is going to change in due time. It's interesting that the elected officials didn't properly consult with the citizens of the city prior to making these decisions. Do we hear the sound of money filling the back pockets of same elected officials to ram these changes through? But this would have to go through the federal government first would it not? Something is missing. But thank again for your investigative journalism. Take care. 👍

I don’t think this is a bad thing. Could it mean that China is willing to go all the way economically? But it does reveal the ones who sold Trinidad out too. But I believe Trinidad can benefit from China too. Beautiful accent. My daddy is Indie Trini and my mother is Philippino. So I like it! There’s beautiful style, and I think all the Trinis will like it! 😍

You better start learning Mandarin Chinese, because they going to take over eventually, then you would be dealing with the Chinese Communist Party; the CCP. Imagine, Calypso in Mandarin

Awesome screenplay. And about the project, I like the idea. I suspect Chinatowns are not built overnight, it starts with a few businesses so we would have to wait 100 and more years to see vision in full.

When you rename a place after a specific population, shouldn't that areas population be of that majority? I haven't been to Trinidad in 28 yrs maybe I'm missing something... from Diego, too.

this is just amazing. the lack of self confidence in our Caribbean people is just amazing. A 'China Town" as a well thought out, city development lol you got to hand it to the Chinese. They are better at praying on the vulnerable than the colonizing Europeans of old, they make you think it's your idea. Why oh Trinidad? Why? you were an oil rich nation! why? smh.

there has always been a number of Chinese businesses on the street and if I remember correctly the Chinese association had a building there too, so it is no surprise that this could be done.

Interesting information about future development plans for the area. Not sure why there needs to be a distinct ethnic marketplace in a country that has always emphasized and celebrated the multiethnic heritage of the population. In cities where such spaces exist, they are nice tourist spots to visit, eat and shop, but Tdad already have those, so not sure if this is an attempt to gentrify the area as happens in so many areas of the world. It softens leads to the old buildings coming down, the poor unable to afford the rents in the new spaces, the price of goods and services going up, nice restaurants and professional services such as doctors and lawyers locating offices, and real estate agencies making a killing on the property transfers.

We introduce the name China Town my future question is will the owners of these businesses be pressure by the Chinese Association to sell their properties to make the Chinese feel more in control of such area . Also the placing up of those signs look so shady like a thief in the night how many business owners was aware of the erection of such furthermore agreed on such . I guess its one those cliché for the "Major Whatever i say goes "

We have shit ass roads. We have a pitch lake but everybody else getting pitch 🤣😂😭what a shame potholes here there and everywhere. China smooth. England smooth. Trinidad like the roads are in the forest or better yet our roads are only for agriculture because even on the highway there are potholes. China Town lmao. Learn chines we can't even speak Spanish and that should be our second language because we have a lot of Spanish in the carribbean. 🇹🇹❤️. I love my country but not the roads. Great job bro.
