I'm a new subscriber and as a candle maker it makes me so cross when people slam paraffin wax (not that i use it) but the wax is not toxic which has been proven by a peer reviewed study which proved the wax burns exactly the same as all other waxes tested including soy. The soot on the vessel is generally down to poor wax trimming or even a breeze near the candle makimg the flame to flicker to the glass

please note that improper trimming of the wick or poorly wicked candles will cause sooting this is not exclusive to paraffin. All soy used in candles is made from GMO soy beans and also they use very harsh chemicals to extract the soy bean oil. Bees wax is good but you have to consider the damage done to the hives to collect the wax and find out if the bees wax is ethically sourced. Palm wax is great but unless responsibly sourced you are paying to fund deforestation. Also remember natural does not always mean better. Crude oil is a natural material and yet were are watching a video warning us it the potential dangers of paraffin. I also encourage people to look up food grade paraffin because that is what high grade paraffin is. It is processed to remove toxins and impurities. Much like raw soy beans are poisonous until cooked but nobody is saying don't soy eat meat instead. Personally I don't use paraffin wax in my candles and I don't aroma materials known to be hazardous. That being said people please do your research the soy industry has done epic job of marketing and the "all natural" movement has done a great job of selling the idea that essentials oils are better. Again please do your research

Burning anything in your house comes with respiratory risks. The cleanest way to throw scents inside is wax melt, or a scent diffuser. Any kind of wax if it doesnt burn fully will throw soot and unburned wax around your house. This is no different from smoking if you breathe it in.

Burning paraffin wax candles does release some volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like benzene and toluene, which are known to be harmful in high amounts. However, studies show that the levels of these chemicals released by candles are typically too low to pose significant health risks under normal use. For instance, a 2014 study in the Journal of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology found that scented paraffin candles pose no known health risks and that their emission levels fall well below World Health Organization exposure limits.

You kept saying paraffin released harmful toxins, so what are those toxins and why is it toxic to human health? Black soot exists doesn't matter what type of candle wax you use, the wick trimming will help eliminate this. I will take a properly trimmed wick paraffin any days over soy wax with improper trim wick that causing soot. Soy wax will produce less harmful toxin, true, but the farming of soybean has been question ethically lately. You asked people to do research, have you do yours before posting this video?

Thank you for your opinion on Paraffin wax. I stated in the video, paraffin releases fumes that are found in diesel gasoline. I will not take that chance of burning anything that could cause any amount of health issues down the line, but again, that is my opinion. farming of soy has been in question ethically, but you have to understand, it is not ALL brands that are causing harm with soy farming. to avoid all of these issues or concerns i much prefer vegan wax over anything else. Hello, Both paraffin and most of the essences used in candles are made from petroleum derivatives and all these products emit toxic products when burned as highly toxic formic aldehyde, only pure beeswax is less toxic than all other products. Any organic product when burning emits toxic substances, nothing is exempt from that.

I love this! I’m launching Evergreen Lane, a coconut, hemp seed oil, and local beeswax blended candle brand (I’m soy-sensitive so I don’t use soy). And I love that you’re teaching others about this. Another factor is fragrance oil. Sooooo many fragrance oils use are cancer causing and it’s widely known! Candle makers are privy to this information prior to pucharsing fragrance oils for our candles. So even if someone is using a beautiful natural oil and labeling it as made with natural wax, they could still be using a toxic fragrance. I scour every safety data sheet and I hope other candle makers will do the same as time goes on. Blessings!

Your videos are very well done. You should really research soy it is made from GMO soy beans- which uses chemicals to extract it - the reason candle makers use paraffin is it is extremely difficult to get a saleable throw from soy alone - coconut wax can be good but the supply of it is very difficult to count on Essential oils are nearly impossible to use as they ignite and immediately burn off unlike fragrance oil . I think candle labels can get away with a bit because they can use a blend without saying of what - or contains 100% soy doesnt mean it is all soy. Paraffin wax is more widely used than you might think again because of throw

Hi, just to be clear with waxes because a lot of people are misinformed aboit it. Paraffin isn't toxic if its fully refined. Every wax (mineral/vegetal/...) are hydrocarbons that emits formaldehyde when they combust, the "carcinogenic" molecule. If the candle is perfectly wicked and made they must emit less this molecule. Trudon used to have beewax into their blends but now to make it "vegan suitable" they change it for paraffin (dyptique uses paraffin too like most of luxury brands because technically a 100% vegetable wax desont burn properly). Every candle maker does have to make several lab candle testing before selling their candles on the market, that's one of the reasons why your candle is expensive but most of the price goes into marketing. The maintoxic issue in a candle is the fragrance, which are often full of allergens. Avoid those who have the red diamond warning logo on the label they are the most unsafe to use. Moreover, a candle is toxic when you don't use it properly and do not trim the wick. Clean the residues before burning, do not burn more than 4h in a row, don't blow the wick and the most important, open your windows right after.

LOL There is NO 100% soy wax candle. Have you ever seen how soy wax looks after its first burn? Dude its cratered and nasty, plus it doesn't have that strong of a scent. All candle waxes are mixed with something so that the candle has a nice smooth top and a stronger scent. It doesn't have to be paraffin but it's mixed with a chemical or other substance. But 100% soy is just not true. Don't let the brands fool you.

As a candle maker I have studied every wax out there and though I dont use paraffin or soy wax, I think paraffin gets a bad rap that just isn't justified and soy wax dont get the beat down that it deserves. People praise soy like its a miricle drug but no one ever mentions the fact that in order to produce that successful crop you have to spray it with millions of gallons of deadly pesticide, and as for paraffin wax well all that shiny fruit you see in the grocery store, it didn't come from the fields looking that shiny so they spray it with paraffin wax and they also use paraffin wax in the canning process. It's all over our food so if it was harmful we should all be dead by now. Yankee candles are 100% paraffin and I never knew of anyone passing out or killing over from burning a Yankee candle. Also I have tested a lot of high end candles only to realize it's a 5 dollar candle with a big name and big price. Its like Ralph Lauren going to the dollar store and buying all their shirts then sewing his logo on them to resale for $100... its still a DG $2 shirt on the back of a fool who thinks that little horse made it better. And I guarantee you all those Big famous names on those candle labels not one has ever spent 10 minutes making the first candle themself and they probably have no clue what's even in it. That's my take, if it smells good light it up, we all gonna die someday.🕯🕯🕯

"doesn't that mean you're burning some type of chemical?" Yeah, everything's a chemical. Water is a chemical. Table salt is a chemical. Soy wax isn't natural either, it's made by the hydrogenation of soybean oil in the presence of a nickel catalyst. It's literally crisco, except crisco is only partially hydrogenated so as to not be as solid/hard. Beeswax on the other hand, is "natural" yet it produces more soot.
