Hi Lisa, if I go for purchasing a leather jacket then for which leather (Lambskin or sheep leather) I will go for? please keep in mind for its longevity .. thanks

Hello Manas! That's a great question - thank you for asking! I'll try to answer the best I can with the knowledge that I have. Lambskin will most likely handle getting wet better than Sheepskin so a jacket's longevity will have a lot to do with how you intend to wear it and in what conditions you will be wearing it in, as well as how you take care of it. I think what's equally important to the longevity of any leather jacket, is the quality of the leather (and materials like hardware) used in the jacket's making and its overall craftsmanship. Most often, we get what we pay for. I hope this helps!

Does lambskin skin make a sqeaky noise
@IamLisaMariaCantalupo2 жыл бұрын
Hello Mike, and thank you for your question! I will answer from my experience with the lambskin that I stock and work with... I have never heard any squeaking noises. I have some lambskin leather cuttings with me and I just tried rubbing them together and bunching them up just to be sure. No squeaking. The only thing that I can think of that could possibly make any noise *might* be the handmade leather cording when tied, that is used on the tops in this video. That, I would have to test out when I'm in the shop (because now I'm curious lol). Do you have leather products that are made with lambskin that makes squeaking noises? If so, what are they (again, I'm curious as heck lol)

@@IamLisaMariaCantalupo I have a few leather items like pants and a vest that makes a squeaky noise I like the noise don't know why lol so I'm trying to find out if it's cowhide or lambskin leather that makes the noise thoese are the only two types of leather I normally look for. At one point I thought I had some lambskin leather pants that made the squeak but I think I gave them away because they got to small.

@@mikebrown1906 this topic is very interesting to me. I've worked with leather now for something like 16 years, mostly lamb and cow. I've never had any of my customers mention squeaky leather. So I had to research it a little. Here's one of the things I found, "Creaking and squeaking sounds Part of the testing and examining process for quality leather involves checking for any creaking and squeaking sounds that may be caused by friction. Such noises can also occur in many other materials, such as rubber, plastics or imitation leather. They are generally the result of surfaces constantly rubbing against each other. Creaking noises are produced when superimposed layers are alternately adhered to one another within a short time and are then released again. Much depends on the structure of the surfaces that touch or come into contact and also the number of times contact occurs. Surfaces with only a microscopic unevenness can stick together under pressure, resulting in a creaking or squeaking sound. The main influencing factors for this are the pressure at which the surfaces rub against each other, temperature, surface soiling, humidity and material fatigue." I always purchase top grade genuine leather and never the cheap stuff so I'm betting that may be the reason why I haven't come across this topic before. As far as distinguishing between cow and lamb; lamb is super soft and the flesh side of the hide is super soft too like a babies bottom soft. Lol Cow is more stiff and body to it. The flesh side may appear to have more texture to it too compared to the lamb. I don't have my samples here at the house (figures that I just cleaned out my bag and left them at the shop). Otherwise I'd take some pix to show you. Back to your squeaky pants...the squeak may have something to do with the quality and not so much with the type of leather? (I can't imagine a pair of $5k Gucci leather pants squeaking LOL)

From what I know all leather make squeaking noise due to friction, the most common parts to hear them are in: leather jacket arms and sleeves, leather backpack straps, leather shoes and leather pants. If it's squeaking more often than usual, try moisturizing it to make it more flexible it can also lessen the squeaking.
