The system in Brazil was later exclusively created trying to grab attributes of both Systems. The result is that it's kind of a Frankenstein. It's called PAL-M but It actually works exactly as Ntsc. And it's completely uncompatible with European Pal. The Number of lines, frequency and frame rate is the same as NTSC but not the color. Meaning: The European products didn't work on Brazilian tvs at all (besides being called "PAL" M). The NTSC cameras, VCRs would work in our TVs with correct format but in Black and White (unless the color was transcoded). Since our Electronic market products came largely most from US, at the end to make It easier, in the 80's and 90's all VCRs had to come from factory with both systems Pal-M and NTSC compatibility. Which made everything more expensive

How about SECAM?
@3xperiment8 Жыл бұрын
@@AwesomeAmaan I don't remember seeing this system in VCRs and TVs config, or any device in my life. Only on the internet I became aware that It was used most in Asia and Africa. Since our electronic imports were most from US or Japan (both NTSC) guess Secam System was almost never used here. When they were manufactured here, the rather easy conversion to Pal-M were made before going to the stores. One example were the Mega Drives. TEC TOY would ship the Sega Genesis US parts and mount with a Pal-M mod. Many pure Pal-M devices were modded. Nowadays people even prefer to open old consoles and undo the Pal-M mods to maintain the intended original hardware NTSC signal.

A good, simple, explanation. PAL and NTSC are (were) transmission standards for analogue colour television. NTSC, in North America had a frequency not of 30 fps, but 29.97. There are complex mathematical reasons why it wasn't exactly 30 fps. France and the USSR used a system called SECAM. Both NTSC and PAL systems were electronic marvels, given how primitive electronics were when the systems were invented.

The creator made a common mistake in associating colour encoding systems (NTSC & PAL) with frame rates. They are not related except coincidentally: PAL tended to be used with the 625 line 50Hz system and NTSC with the 525 60Hz format. Nothing about the line and frame rate mandates using one colour encoding format over another: NTSC can be used with 625 50Hz as much as PAL can be used with 525 60Hz. Both colour formats were used in testing in the UK (NTSC with 625 60Hz was tested in the early 60’s but PAL gave a more robust colour signal) and PAL was used for the commercial the 525 60Hz system in Brazil. PAL was an improvement of the NTSC system and developed about 5 years after colour was introduced in the USA (1954 for US colour and 1957-8 for PAL). European TV shifted from VHF to UHF broadcasting bands in the 60’s as well and shifting from the 405 50Hz system to 625 lines. Thus the European broadcasters had the ability to start with a new system from scratch.

I think it just shows lack of attention to detail and research discipline (maybe some vanity as well) regarding “content creators”. NTSC has the advantage of having a cleaner "pull down" when it comes to converting industry standard 24fps film. 60Hz/30i represents 24fps surprisingly well. Back in the day, I used to capture in 30i, convert it into 60p (cutting the vertical resolution in half, but it was a sacrifice), then render it in 24fps, to give it that "film feel."

Well, I don't even know why the name NTSC and PAL still exist especially when NTSC is now ATSC, and they don't go by the vertical line count like what we use now as 720p, 1080i, I don't know why there is interlace 1080i resolution broadcast when everything is digital and modern TVs produce progressive scan out the get-go. And mostly modern TV's algorithm is bad at differing from 23.976fps to 29.97fps and mostly the TV favors 59.94fps even with Film Mode enabled. I played around with my computer connected to my LCD TV having the res set to 1080i 29.97fps while playing a 60fps game. I mean the game was still 60fps but at half the resolution, but with a static image on screen you'll see the full res detail of the image, but when the static images starts moving again you get half the vertical resolution again.

ntsc frame rates are not necessarily a safe bet. What about TV broadcasting, in which to my knowledge, is dominantly 50hz.
I disagree. You should use the framerate of the system that you are located turning the shoot. ALSO the thing you did not talk about is the problems in editing - if you are in Europa you should make video sequences in 25 or sometimes 50, it depends. Because if you get footage from other people in Europa then it mostly will be in 25 or 50 fps and they match. Because if you use 30 fps sequence then yeah, the result will not be what you want, if you add 25 fps videos on that. The same problem is the other way around also. I will never shoot NTSC in Europa. Also the 29.97 fps... it already is cancel for me :D it is just a mistake from the past that is hard to change to something normal. I see no advantages with NTSC whatsoever. The only thing - you get more frames. So you might win when shooting 60 fps or 120 fps to get a bit better slow-motion. But that is all there is.
