INTEGRAL PHYSICS

Күн бұрын

Ray tracing diagrams fall short in helping people actually understand the difference between real and virtual images. See both real and virtual images for both lenses and mirrors.
By focusing a real image onto a surface such as a wall or a sheet of paper, the image will appear on the surface, but only if the lens is held at the correct distance from the surface, and the image will always be inverted.
Conversely, when dealing with convex mirrors, and concave lenses. We don't see a real image, instead we see what's called a virtual image. That is an image that doesn't project onto a surface, rather it appears within the lens or the mirror itself. And that image, will always be upright.

If physics professors would just take 5 minute to demonstrate this after teaching the concepts, that would save the headaches of millions of Physics II students everywhere.

Quick question: In this case, since our eyes contain convex lenses, does that mean we are seeing inverted (real) images? I am just confused...
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS Жыл бұрын
Yes. A real, inverted image forms on the back of your eye; and yes the image is inverted... your brain just got used to it. The purpose of glasses is to move the focal point of the image forward or back so that it forms on the retina (the back of your eye)

Can someone please CONFIRM my question? -So does this means that CONCAVE MIRROR can EITHER BE REAL OR VIRTUAL? •Produces REAL if projected on a screen; and •Produces VIRTUAL if reflection is seen directly in the mirror...? -I was also influenced by this question since I see a lot of search results in Google saying that CONCAVE MIRROR may PRODUCE either REAL or VIRTUAL image.
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS 9 ай бұрын
The image formed by a concave mirror is real when the object is placed beyond the focal point of the mirror, and virtual when the object is placed inside the focal length of the mirror.

So a real image is something that allow light to pass through one medium to another and project a image in the other medium while a virtual image is something that doesn’t allow light to pass through to another medium but still allows it to project light in that medium?
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS Жыл бұрын
A real image occurs when the light (either reflected or refracted) from a surface actually converges at a point. A virtual image occurs when the light (either reflected or refracted) from a surface APPEARS to come from a point it never actually passed through. This is where ray tracing diagrams come in as a useful tool in understanding real vs. virtual images.

I’m wondering if we also should stay in focus point while looking through a converging lens. I mean there is a specific distance between the wall and the lens so the real image can be projected. But as we look a virtual image through the same lens I assume we can look it at any distance and the virtual image is clear and focused (as you demonstratwd at the end of the video while we looking that tiny jeep). Is it so or we also should stay at a specific distance
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS 5 ай бұрын
A real image will project (in focus) onto a surface at only one point. However, hold a convex lens up between yourself and a distant object, as you look through the lens toward the object you will see the image form at a position that to your eye appears to be closer to you than the lens.
