The Difference Between Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign Horoscopes

I find that the rising sign often speaks to fated or destined events, the sun sign horoscopes often shows events that involve free will, like buying a house or car. So I like to look at both, and the moon sign ( for women especially) for emotional or matters of the heart.❤

*Qualify conditions - Moon and Rising are the same sign and in a night sec birth chart. Many Many Moons ago, I was taught to read both my Sun and Moon signs. In the 80's, that was the way it was done. I always resonated with both, since the scopes were just about personality - psychology. Now, I go to the Rising sign. I have found it to be so much more accurate for the down to earth happenings in my life.

Thank you. Some years ago It was said that in the first half of life you are your Sun sign second half of life you become your rising sign. I have found this resonates with me, my personality is like the Cancerian has opposed to Leo when I was younger. Or, is this bc of the progressed chart that one becomes like their asendent.

I’ve learned that when placing my sun or moon at the beginning of the chart those planets become part of the story. My Ascendent is the main character but I look at my sun and moon in that placement to see how they will support or harm the main character. I see how their roles are going to play out in the grand story of the chart... if that make sense.

Whole house of course! Also div tech : WHICHEVER sign you’re reading about (primarily in your monthly run downs) I apply that signs horoscope into the house that sign is in- in my natal chart. Continuing on, I’ll also then take that signs ruler and I look to see what house it’s in (my natal) and apply said wisdoms to that house too. It’s pretty much solid as a rock on and on til the break of dawn! Mhm. ⭐️ -molly

Ever since I learned about the rising sign from you I have found it to be way more relatable. Of course for people who don't know their time of birth, sun sign is all they have. Would sun sign readings be more accurate from a heliocentric perspective?

Good idea to put this as a single video resource! After playing closer attention recently, and reviewing at the end of each month, I have been noticing a much greater resonance with my Moon sign, followed by my Rising (cancer). I'm not sure that accurate is quite the right word, but the themes relating to my Moon sign, when placed on the ascendant, have certainly been more pronounced.

As always, that was so well explained, thank you. Would you recommend that people who do not know the time they were born to default to the sun sign, as the ascendant sign can change every 2 hours or so? I’m also curious about how the degrees affect the influence of a placement, as 1 or 29 degrees appear on the cusp of a house. And the effects of having 3 or more planets in a house. Also, I’m very curious about synastry between birth charts and the odds of people having the same signs and degrees in each house despite being born on years apart in different locations. It’s all so fascinating. So many questions... 🙏🏼

Thanks for the info! I’m trying to wrap my brain around whole house vs Placidus. For instance, my ascendant is 22 Gemini and my Saturn is 15 Gemini. One system puts Saturn in my first house and the other 12th. Big difference!

I‘m so happy that my sun and my rising are both scorpio (and that my moon is in my 8th House) I think I would be way more confused otherwise, but it makes more sense and I have also seen for other people that their rising sign was always more accurate

I have found both rising sign and sun sign to be useful. Truthfully, I have not paid much attention to the moon sign. I feel like the whole house system makes things tricky. For example, I am Scorpio ascendant and technically Cancer rules my ninth house, but my Cancer sun hangs out in my eighth house, which with everything going on in Cancer the last month, could change things for me. I guess I could also look at some of the Sag rising info as well (funny enough, Sag is my moon sign, so that would then incorporate my moon as well, which actually sits in the first house). Hoping this makes sense 😂

Being that you r s H20 sign the moon rules EMOTIONS. Thru this column, I learned that maybe it might be good to do a MOON chart to check on emotional issues. Scorpio can be very intense & powerful. Use your energy in a POSITIVE way!

4 degrees Pisces rising, Sun in Libra. I always go by my rising. The problem I have with whole signs is that it wipes out certain elements from my chart. For example I have Pisces and Aries in 1st, Virgo and Libra (stellium) in 7th, Sagittarius in 9th and 10th and Gemini in 3rd and 4th and all of this is true to me. Under whole signs Libra would be my 8th house instead of Scorpio where my Venus is and this is very descriptive of my finances/love nature. I have to listen to both Aries and Pisces forecasts to make sense of the month/year ahead. For example I now have Mars in my 1st but I also did when it was in Pisces. I have Jupiter Saturn and Pluto in my 11th and it's all playing out as expected. Jupiter rules my 10th so lots of changes within organisations and changes of organisations on the work front.

I've been thinking about this talk for a whole week. It was super helpful but I was reminded of how hard it is when you don't exactly know your rising sign. There's no time indicated on my birth certificate and my Mom (heavily sedated and not awake for days after my birth, like they did by in the '60s) thinks it was early in the morning. But so much changed between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 am on the day I was born, ascendant moving from Virgo to Libra and as it gets closer to 8:00 am, a few planets, including the sun, move out of the 12th house and into the first. Pretty significant differences, right? I wonder if there is a way reverse engineer what time I was born by looking at those planets in the 1st and 12th house and see which is more accurate. What do you think? Also, maybe a fun project for your students..? Anyway, thanks again and good luck with your move. Bummed to lose you here in the DC area but grateful for the internet!

with quadrant houses I've been trying to figure out how the chart fits, and trying to rationalize. Once I looked at it thru the whole house system, the chart actually described me. "Oh, there I am." It also became the permission slip to stop trying to be a ☉Gem all the time and embrace my "true" Scorp nature. :D

Since I’ve learned about trad astrology, I have found it a lot more accurate than Modern. I find the whole sign house system simply the best. But I’m curios, in my case the Asc and Moon are in Capricorn, the same sign, and the Sun in their opposite sign, and there’s always a connection between polarities, is it so that in my kind of case the all three could sort of work in the first house prediction? Compared to example like Asc Libra, Moon Taurus, Sun Pisces...?

I should add that using rising sign whole house divisions would shift moon from 12th house to the 1st and the Sun/Saturn from 6th house to 7th.

Acyuta, what happens if your rising is 29 degrees of a sign? Do we consider the whole sign first house to be in the next sign? I am still very confused about this as I have this aspect.

I’m a Libra sun & rising, and between those two I find placidus to be most accurate for me. I’m also a Leo moon and that too has been especially accurate. But for some reason whole sign is the least accurate & I’m not sure why.

I relate more to my rising signs goroacopes for my thoughts. I gave my inner planets in Leo and i feel ny intuitions and drive coming from leonide energies. I also check my tarot for both my rising and Sun sign to identify the patterbs more accurately

This is likely a remedial question... in relation to sun vs. rising, I am a Scorpio sun and Taurus rising. I always thought the rising was opposite the sun for everyone, but you mentioned it can be the same. Are you referencing that the rising and sun can both share a house, or is it actually possible someone could have the same sign for both sun and rising?

So doing it by my rising sign. Will that mess with my planets? I have 5 planets in sag. Sag sun and moon, etc. But virgo rising. I relate to both signs but thought since so many planets including sun and moon are sag.. maybe i should go with that. But virgo readings are really accurate for me too. So confusing still.

i think it's because general horoscopes are usually written from the perspective of the house they're activating. we can't know where everyone's sun and moon are in their individual charts, but we do know the ascendant is in the first, and so we do know what houses will be activated in the natal chat. reading for both is a good idea, but the house topics are very accurate!

@@kddayton2 Rising signs r 4 the minute u were born. This is the real u & who u will be when u grow up. The rest of the charts tell you where you came from & where your going..& how you'll get there. That's where the aspects of the transits interact with your natal planets. I love this column. Look up CAFE ASTROLOGY. They tell you everything you need to know. Its awesome!
