@Raza Mughal hello, my brother, I respect the sunni belief... but there's events that happened in history that can't be ignored. We have to be with who's right and not be with everyone. Why did Ayisha fight against the imam Ali in the battel of camel? We have to seek the truth and side with it.

i once wanted to become a muslim. i asked my muslim friends to help me, which they all did. after so many of my questions answered, i was confident enough to attend a local mosque for friday prayer. a few days before i asked the many who helped me my last question: _"when i attend the mosque, i may be asked what i am, a sunni or shia, what do i answer?"_ this question ignited all who helped me to argue with such hatred that shocked me to the point where i lost faith in islam. i didnt know there was divison, to the point where i veered for some time until i returned to announce which side i was to choose. i chose neither sunni or shia, i am a muslim.

Yes if you stick to the Quran and Sunnah you will be on the right path... This Sunni and Shia is like a political disagreement... The Shias (some) curse and sware at the khalifas and insult Aisha. Allah proved her innocence but they still disrespect the prophets wife Aisha. This is very wrong.

@@N.Y.63 I would say it is slighlty more than a political difference but not by much. Honeslty the main difference in practicing shia and sunni beliefs is just about how you actually pray. All the other differences are mainly concerned with beliefs and not as much about practices of both sides.

@@Maricove_y me personally i'm still learning about sunni vs shia brother but i think a big difference between sunnism and shi'ism besides imamate and sahaba is that shia are more critical of hadith. majority of hadith are compiled by fallible people, people who can make mistakes. however because twelver shia believe in the infallibility of the imams, if an imam is within any chain of transmission of a hadith they can be sure that it is true. so i would say shia are definitely more critical of hadith and it makes sense as they are not leaving their faith up to chance and possibility but rather what they can be sure is true and intended from allah swt. but of course one must first believe the imams are infallible to hold this belief. me personally i am learning about shi'ism, i was introduced to islam as a whole through sunnism, but some aspects of shi'ism like the critical view of hadith makes a lot of sense to me. however there are some theological arguments which can be brought up to question the imams. inshallah we all find the truth and may allah be pleased with our efforts. ameen

Surah Fussilat 41 : 37 prohibiting muslim to worship sky objects (sun, moon, stars) is recited by Muhammad (because he's illiterate) 3-5 years (AD 613-615) after he proclaimed as a prophet of allah in AD 610. He copied the Jews' Tanak (Bible: the Old Testament) Exodus 20 : 4, Deuteronomy 4 : 19 & 17 : 3 that Yahweh, the God of Israel that's worshiped by Abraham, Ishaq & Yakub, forbids the Israelites to worship sky objects but Q 6 : 77 muslims used to worship the moon goddess 🌙 & Q 53 : 49 Sirius the brightest star used to be Allah. At that time he was still befriended wth them. He had access to Jewish's, Christian's & the Sabians (ancient people of Mesopotamia (nowadays Iraq) until Syria) scriptures. When they rejected him he turned against them. Muhammad quarrelled with the Jews in AD 624 in Medina. Muhammad chased, killed & expelled them out of the Arabian Peninsula.... W. Tidall, p. 39. One example is he claims Shia believe all Sahaba conspired to prevent Ali becoming Caliph. Like it is far fetched. But Shia don't claim it like that he put his biased spin on it. There some other Sahaba who believe it should be Ali. Remember Malik was killed by Khalid bin Waleed. Also Ansar wanted caliphate but Umar got in fight at saqifa. Other words no we don't say all conspired we say many remained silent out fear or others biases, some believed in Ali & some conspired. Once they went round demanding allegiance claiming Muslims agreed who was going to stand against them when they killed others. Also he claim Umar never threatened to burn house of Fatima in the Sunni view. It is in their own hadiths! It might not be know to their followers but it is known without doubt he went to Fatima house & also they took fadak. No debate on these to those who are honest. Some Sunni scholars admit it & make excuses for it. Are saying you don't know any of this? There is more but you were too busy nodding away

@@hassanabbasbirmani Shia believe Imams/Caliphs are chosen by Allah (swt) as per the Qur'an in Sura baqarah & other verses & hadith. Now that is a big point but what does he mention imam needs to be descendent of Ali (as). At least say why, don't mislead others to make them think the Shia made it an Hereditary thing like a monarchy. No the real the criteria is Allah chosen them for their characters & attributes. Not any descendent of Ali can be an imam it is very misleading. Common attack on Shia accusing it to be like monarchy Hereditary when Imam were the most knowledgeable of their time. regardless of their lineage this was essential characteristics but see ones he mentions misleading bias. @@moinejaz2804 Dear Brother, I understand your concerns about disrespectful behavior and spreading fitna (discord) among the Muslim community. It is essential to me to promote unity, mutual respect, and understanding among Muslims, regardless of our differences. Insulting or disrespecting the Sahaba (companions of the Prophet Muhammad) is indeed inappropriate and goes against the teachings of Islam. The Sahaba hold a special place in Islamic history, as they were close companions of the Prophet, and they played a crucial role in spreading and preserving the message of Islam. It is crucial to remember that Islam emphasizes respect for all individuals, including the Sahaba, and discourages divisive language or actions that can lead to disunity within the Muslim community. Instead of focusing on our differences, I believe that we should strive to foster an environment of compassion, tolerance, and open dialogue, so we can learn from one another and grow together as a unified ummah. I personally agree with the sentiment that we should all seek guidance from Allah, and may He guide us to love and respect the Sahaba and the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet's family). By promoting unity, love, and respect within the ummah, I believe that we can work together to strengthen our faith and positively impact the world around us. May Allah guide us all and grant us the wisdom to treat one another with kindness and compassion. Ameen. Furthermore, I respect my personal beliefs and upbringing, which forbid me from associating with extremists on either side. Striving for a balanced and moderate approach is commendable, and it is essential for me to distance myself from any form of extremism that could harm the unity and cohesion of the Muslim community. I also recognize that ignorance and a lack of education can contribute to the spread of fitna and misunderstandings among Muslims. It is crucial for me as an individual and for the community to seek knowledge, engage in open discussions, and learn from authentic sources to gain a better understanding of our faith. Regarding the reliability of some hadith, I acknowledge that it is a valid scholarly viewpoint to question the historical accuracy of certain narrations. The process of hadith transmission and authentication was complex, and there is a possibility that some fabricated or unreliable hadith may have been circulated for various reasons, including political motives. Therefore, I believe it is crucial to rely on trusted scholars and reputable sources when studying and understanding the hadith literature. In addressing fitna and promoting unity, I believe that we should emphasize the teachings of Islam that encourage compassion, forgiveness, and tolerance. Engaging in respectful discussions and seeking common ground can bridge gaps and foster harmony within the Muslim ummah. By staying informed, learning from reputable sources, and rejecting extreme views, I believe that we can actively work towards a more cohesive Muslim community based on love, respect, and understanding. Let us pray for guidance and wisdom from Allah, seeking the truth in all matters and striving to build a united ummah that upholds the true values of Islam. May Allah guide us and grant us the strength to navigate the challenges we face. Ameen.

@@moinejaz2804 I agree. The shia scholars of the highest eminence such as Ayatullah Sistani condemn cursing the revered companions by sunni's. Shaytan worshiped Allah for 6000 years and one of his sajdah's was for 2000 years. However, when it came down to bowing to Adam (a.s) he disobeyed God and went astray. Similarily, we believe Abu Bakr went astray due to being power hungry and went astray. Please do note that I am not doing takfir on Abu Bakr.

Dr Yasir Qadhi has spent over a decade studying Islam and has written academic papers and given (probably) thousands of khutbahs. He used to be a 'salafi' when he was younger. But that is still considered a branch of sunni Islam. After having done more research on his own he no longer identifes with that group. As for the shia sect, with all due respect, there are far too many things that simply don't add up (in my humble opinion). Somewhat like Christianity. This is what any unbiased person would conclude. But I sincerely ask Allah to guide you with goodness,

@@lady7 There are a majority of Hadith in all Sunni books of Hadith that contradict each other. Many Sunni Hadith agree about Shia beliefs. Because of Shaitan, the Sunni's have subconsciously forgot about them "...It was none but Satan who made me forget..."(18:63) Shaytan causes forgetfulness. Don't forget that Aisha sinned against Allah when she disobeyed a direct Quranic command "And stay in your houses and do not display your finery like the displaying of the ignorance of yore" as she rode into the Battle of the Camel.(33:33) Logic and common sense say that the Shia's are correct in all their belief. But Allah gave you an intellect that is lower than mine so I cannot be against you. It is not your fault that you are this way. I love you the same as any other Muslim. It's like a father and his disobedient child. The father must love his child even though he is disobedient to the father. So therefore I love you as a Muslim, I treat you the same as a Shia Muslim.

I am Sunni. When I was a child, back in my far flung native land, I heard quite many lectures about how Shiism is so much different from us and that we must despise them. Now that I have friends who are Shites, I realise those differences I learned as a child still exist but we can actually still be friends. Now I am more tolerable of the differences to preserve brotherhood of Umma as one. But it becomes hard when a family member or cousins are hardcore fanners of these differences. And I would tell them that they are Muslims. What connected us is the Shahada, Mecca, the Holy Quran, etc. why can't we just leave them alone and practice ours even better. That's why this lecture, once I saw it, I listened to it twice in a row and I will save it so I can listen to it again and again until I absorb it and use this as a material to educate family members. So thank you so much Imam for this video. And I hope to hear more of your lectures. It is so positively toned. Thank you.

This was an incisive and empathic delineation of the key differences between our sunni and shia brothers/sisters. Surely the most sensible way forward is one of pragmatic tolerance, continued dialogue, and as the community of Iqraa', furthering our edification and understanding of the palpable differences and similarities between us. In times of polarization, postmodernism and anti-Muslim pogroms (both real life and virtual), we must work together in the spirit of the Most Merciful and our most merciful habib, our beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and all that follow him.

His comments at about 36 minutes in are the key issue: both sides are ultimately working with historical narratives that contradict one another. And we easily forget that no one alive today was there to witness the events that are described in these books. As a convert to Islam who picked up a copy of the Qur’an- or rather, an explanation of it- making sense of this conflict, which is based on events described outside of the Qur’an, has been a real ordeal. It means being reborn i to a broken family. Everyone insists that their side is correct (naturally) but if we’re brutally honest, both sides are, for the most part, following what was passed down to them. Both stories were told to me at about the same time and not passed down from my family over centuries. At this point in my “career” as a Muslim, I say “aleyhisalam” when talking about the Ahlul Bayt but guess what? So did Imam Bukhari. I mourn Hussein (as) every Muharram, but not to the point of, say, thinking it’s not a good idea to get married during that month. I also say “radhiullahu anhu” to Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman, who were also members of the Prophet’s (S) family by marriage and, in Abu Bakr’s (ra) case, an ancestor of the sixth Imam, Jafar Sadiq (ra)- who was apparently a teacher of Imam Abu Hanifa. I hope to be able to study these issues more in depth but in the meantime, although there were some details that differed from what Shi’i brothers have told me, the Sheikh did a good job of addressing this and I will keep him my dua. May Allah reward him, and guide him and guide me and all of us. And with this issue especially, it’s good to remember to say “Allahu alim”. Salams from Utah (Which, on a far lighter note, I affectionately refer to as “Mormonistan”).

Peace be upon you. As a revert to Islam myself I commend your efforts to make sense of a very sensitive and partisan issue. your background will stand you in good stead compared to a born Muslim who has family and society to worry about. You are simply after the truth and are not motivated by family heritage or any other legacy issues. You are fortunate to have found out about the Ahlulbayt, Imam Hussain and the Karbala so early on in your journey. I was Muslim for over 16 Years before I found out about Karbala, Imam Hussain, or even heard the term Ahlulbayt. I spent an entire year studying the differences in depth and alhamdulillah I chose to follow the path of Ahlulbayt. I had been sunni for most of my adult life so I have spent time in various communities/sects such as sufis, Tableeghis and even Deboandis. 12:25 As a shia follower, I highly appreciate your unbiased view towards explaining this complex issue. However, May I please clarify that all Imams have had no intention of engaging in politics when they were oppressed against by the political powers. Their views on politics were highly critical, hence they were all living very minimal lifestyles, did not care for positions of power even if they believed they had the right to assume it, and were constantly highlighting the issue that the caliphate was not a matter of opinion, yet a right given by god. We do not assume that a person of political power has a right to be a religious leader. It is in fact the opposite. The person who has the right to be the caliphate should in turn be the leader of the ummah, but as we all know, that was not how things turned out.

I live in a community that is predominantly sunni with few shia muslims. The Shi'ites relate well with me because I discuss with them in details about their beliefs, rituals & especially the branches within shiism while others are always having disputes with them. 5:67. O Messenger. Proclaim the (message) which hath been sent to thee from thy Lord. If thou didst not, thou wouldst not have fulfilled and proclaimed His mission. And Allah will defend thee from men (who mean mischief). For Allah guideth not those who reject Faith. (ALI is made Imam 3 months before prophets’ death at Ghadeer. This is a mutawatir hadith meaning it has been narrated by so many companions that it is undeniable) Prophet was nervous to make announcement because many people disliked Ali (since he had killed many of the enemies before they converted to Islam), but Allah told him I will “protect you.” 5:55 Only God is your Wali; and His Apostles and those who believe, those who keep up regular prayers and pay the poor while they bow. Abu Dharr el -Ghifari (R) says: “One day I was praying in the mosque with the Messenger of God. Just then, a man came into the mosque and asked for some charity. No one gave him anything. Thereupon he lifted his gaze toward the sky, and said: ‘O God! be Thou a Witness that I sought charity in Thy Own House, and no one gave me anything.’ Thereupon, Ali ibn Abi Talib (who was also praying) beckoned to him with his finger, on which he was wearing a ring. The man came and removed the ring from his finger.” Just then Gabriel came and presented this verse to the Apostle of God in recognition of Ali’s charity. 5:3 This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. Religon of Islam “perfected” with establishment of Imamate.

William Tisdall says in his book "The Original Sources of the Qur'an - Its Origin In Pagan Legends and Mythology" during that time Muhammad followed some of Jewish's, Christian's & the Sabian belief and practices. At that time he was still befriended wth them. He had access to Jewish's, Christian's & the Sabians (ancient people of Mesopotamia (nowadays Iraq) until Syria) scriptures. He admitted the rightful Inhibitans of Israel in the Palestinian's land (Quran 5: 20-26), Jews & Christian are good friends. They'll go to heaven., but quran 5:82 to hate the Jews but Christians are the kindest to muslim, fight & slaughter the Jews (Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Hadith 6981 & 6985), quran 5:14 to hate Christians, quran 9:29 to fight theJews & Christias, 5 : 51, 1 : 7 the Christians & Jews are the cursed ones. Muhammad ordered muslims to pray 5x/ day to curse them, the Pact of Omar in AD 717, allah turned the Jews into pigs & monkeys Q 2 : 65 & 5 : 60, 7 : 163, rats are made from the Jews Sahih Al Bukhari, book 54, Hadith 524, cut the neck & fingers of the disbelievers Q 8 : 12 & 47 : 3 - 4, to kill the non muslims Sahih Al Bukhari Vo. I, p. 13, Q 9 : 14, to wipe out non muslims Q 6 : 44 - 45 & many more. The turning point is in AD 624. Muhammad wanted to be accepted as their new prophet (the Jew were waiting for their Masiah & the Christian were waiting for the coming of Christ for the 2nd time). When they rejected him he turned against them. Muhammad quarrelled with the Jews in AD 624 in Medina. Muhammad chased, killed & expelled them out of the Arabian Peninsula.... W. Tidall, p. 39. In the same page says in the same year Muhammad performed his 1st 'Idu'l Adha. While the Jews slaughtered lambs Muhammad slaughtered 2 kids. One for his people & one for himself.

May Allah bless you and the Islamic community 🙏🏻❤

Masha'Allah. Great message of tolerance and unity. There are many more similarities between the Shia and Sunni and these must be celebrated and highlighted as a way to move forward. Keep up the good work!

Following this lecture at the first time I started studying about the SHIA beliefs but I was eventually defeated in the hands of SHIA by the fact when we recite tashahud or Tahiyaatu hance I became a SHIA .

Another amazing piece from Sheikh Qadhi ! So informative and eye opener. The title of the video should be changed though. Most of what's being said is unknown to A LOT of adults like me. So saying this is for teenagers doesn't do justice to the content. I grew up in Algeria in the mid 70's and this topic was avoided like the plague...wonder why ? The only thing we were told when the topic came up, was that Shia believed in that the Angel Gabriel was supposed to bring the message to Saeedina Ali instead of the prophet Mohamed sala Allah alaihim wa Salam. I know it sounds crazy, but I kid you not, i was told that literally. I never really believed in it, it just didn't make sense that someone would think so. We all know of course that it was all made up stuff, but it's crazy that people would spread such false narratives to unsuspecting kids ! What about our parents ? They didn't know any better for most of them. Anyway, thank you SO MUCH for this video, it clarified a lot of things, and I'll be able to explain this to my teenager son. Mister Qhadi, if you ever see this message by chance, my deepest sympathies and thanks to an amazing job that you do. Thank you so much for sharing some of your knowledge and immense wisdom, I'm really impressed by how much you know. I have to shamefully admit, that i have never listened to Islamic Scholars before...until I came across one of your video few months ago. I am so hooked up now, i can't let it go. God bless you. Nazim from Montreal, Canada.

yes unfortunatley alot of lies have been told about Shia, as a rule if someone wants information then isnt it the best to find this info from the source? if you need information about Shia and you want it to be accurate and not some lie then it is best tonask a well known respected Shia scholar or person of knowledge as unfortunatly there are many out there whom pretend to be shia and spread even more lies. anyways may Allah bless you and Assalamu Alaykum

Masha allah, same thing happened in Malaysia about this story. When we were small, we were told that Shia believes that wahy (revelation) supposed to be brought down to Saidina Ali ra, but angel Jibril made a mistake it went to Muhammad SAW. Many other lies about shia like they don't believe in the Quran like it is today. The true Quran was with Saidina Ali ra as they claim. A lot more lies but when I start to research for myself, these things are not true at all. I'm still a Sunni but I have deep respect for Shia's jurisprudence and political philosophy. I benefit immensely from their scholars such as Morteza Motahhari, Ali Shariati, Seyyed Hossein Nasr and many others. While acknowledging our differences I pray that Shias an Sunnis to co-exist together in peace and harmony and learn from each other in areas we agree upon.

Really good speech. I am Shia and have watched Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s earlier lectures where he used to call Shias Kaafir. What a turnaround. Appreciate this measured response. He sounds more sensible than a lot of Shia Aalims. The bottom line is we all have to answer Allah for whatever we do in this duniya. I pray to Allah there more such scholars on both sides

Allah subhanawatala in the Quran Surah anam warns the umma not to break into sects n to hold on to the rope of unity and condemns splits why don't the breakaway groups ponder on this ayah seriously

@@sarahnassar8833 Sister, it is a matter of one's perception. You might call Shias the breakaway group, while we might call Sunnis a breakaway group. There are differences between groups, you may want to call them sects. But, there has to be a common ground to unite on some issues and not fight and give the enemies an upper hand. That is Yasir Qadhi's message and I agree with him. Sunnis will not give up their position and same with Shias.

@@SSS-my3bn i odnt remember yasir qadhi calling shias kafir also what that person meant in the comment was that muslims need to be united as one ummah and not divided in sects
