According to the Spanish, the chihuahuas were bred by the Aztecs to fit perfectly in a pot for eating. Mind you, maybe not the best source.

To a shooter, the offset horizontal slits need no explaining. It give him both a far and a near view of approaching threats. The offset was not designed to screw up the aiming of an attacker, who could simply aim at any 90-degree angle formed by the junction where the vertical and horizontal slits met.
