A bakers dozen was very common when buying donuts or beagles in the 1970s and 80s here in upstate NY, USA. I don't recollect encountering it in recent years. Most such shops are corporate instead of family owned now.

Hold up… in the medieval times average people bought bread in dozens? This doesn’t really make sense… the word in bread makes sense
