Tools like ChatGPT are just ‘large language models’ that aggregate patterns of information in the form of human language. They’re very useful in knowledge-based fields like programming, where you need to reference large amounts of information quickly. It’s like an advanced search engine, and search engines are essentially advanced libraries. However, there’s nothing truly intelligent about them. A 1 year old child is infinitely more intelligent than any program will be. I love the point you made, DPH, that these tools actually make us more machine-like (separating us from our noetic faculties) instead of us making machines more human-like.

Absolutely 100% agreed. I think outsiders look too much into it and don’t realize that at this point the term “AI” is more marketing than anything. These are simply predictive models that basically use matrices multiplication.
