Thanks Bill! I am enjoying your videos more and more as you get comfortable in front of the camera. I appreciate that your style is “down to earth”, like the viewer is in your studio talking to you. I have been using QTR and Richard Boutwell’s system for a couple of years and it works very well for me. One suggestion. It might be helpful to talk about ink selection (MK vs PK). In the video you have “installed ink” selected in the print window, so people new to the system may get confused. I am looking forward to seeing where you go with this series.

Hi Mike. I understand. It always seems like we’re having to worry about keeping legacy machines because of things coming to an end. I’m really hoping that this one I’ll go are away at least for one more iteration of new printers. In the case it doesn’t work, there are still a lot of compatible printers out there on eBay and such.

I am sure I used to have and use QTR donkeys years ago. I think that I used to build BW profiles for different inkjet papers with it using a Spyder reader. I have to boot up the old ( 2005 vintage ) MacBook Pro to see if its still there.

Great series, thank you so much, very timely for me. Two quick questions. I'm using DTP Photogravure process and wonder if I should expose just the plate for the black point and whether I should use the regular Quick Curve or Quick Curve DN for this.

Thank you! Excellent on IP! I don't think you'll need it as you can just select the Quadtone Rip from within your layout in ImagePrint. PrintTool is a handy tool in the process but not required.

Hi, Bill. Thanks so much for doing this series on digital negatives. I've used QTR in the past, but never to make digital negatives. So I'm diving back in. I'm about to download (and purchase) QTR, and I'm wondering if the latest (Catalina) version will run OK on my MacBook Pro that's running Big Sur. On one of the QTR message boards, I'm seeing that Richard Boutwell seems to have installed and tested QTR and PrintTool on his new system (running Big Sur) without troubles. Just wondering if you have heard about any issues with Big Sur. Again - thanks so much for this series. I'm very much looking forward to using QTR, the DataTool, PrintTool, and Boutwell's app to make some first-rate digital negs. Take care!

Very good and clear explanations. I just bought an Epson ET 8550 and I would like to print negatives for cyanotypes. Which one of the Quad tone rip should I choose? I believe none....won't work for my printer...an I right?

Hi, Gracianna. Glad you like the video. Yes, you can use this to print out your separations as long as you’ve saved each layer as individual files first. I’ve used it for tri-colored gum with success.

No change of your inks is necessary. That’s the beauty of QTR. You will want to use the regular photo black ink as well.

@@gianlucafaletti1287 Hi Gianluca. It is not required to purchase the profiler program, but it helps a great deal. Especially in following along in part 4 of the series. You will need to build a correction curve for your process/printer combination. It can be done other ways, but the profiler program makes it so much easier. I hope this helps! @@gianlucafaletti1287 Yes. I understand and make it clear I am using a Mac. However, the programming is made for both operating systems. The book is not needed either, but helps. I realize there is some expense, but I'm guessing you haven't seen the price of palladium. None of this is inexpensive. Good luck to you!
