A very beautiful print. Sorry if this a silly question, because you have coated/sealed the original print with gelatin sizing is there any reason why this wouldn’t work on a normal silver gelatin print (that has been contact printed not enlarged)? Thanks

There doesn't seem to be a lot of Michigan videos here on KZbin, However, I really like yours. Cheers!

Could you seal the plates with clear epoxy?
@BillSchwabАй бұрын
I've not tried that, but I don't see why not. I've used an acrylic clled Soluvar and it works fine. However, you only get one shot.
@wahoo056Ай бұрын
@@BillSchwab Just thinking about this idea, applying the epoxy, and briefly curing the plate in a vacuum to remove bubbles to get a clear seal and perfect coating. I'm not a photographer but just inquiring.
@bifcakeАй бұрын
Hi Bill, what do you think about Printmaker's Friend as an alternative to ammonium bichromate? Can that be used over palladium? Thanks
@BillSchwabАй бұрын
@bifcake i’ve been experimenting with it and it is a potentially good alternative. It’s a very nice process in itself, but it takes a bit more time than palladium and gum. You get into periods or you have to wait overnight for things to dry, etc. However, it will work.I just need more time with it.
@bifcakeАй бұрын
@@BillSchwab Do you have to do it with multiple layers or can you do it with a single layer, the way you do it with gum?
@BillSchwabАй бұрын
@@bifcake Yes, you can do single layers. It's a very nice proiduct in its own right as well, it just needs a little eperience as with most processes.
@bifcakeАй бұрын
@@BillSchwab Thanks! Much appreciated. Oh, one more question, if you don't mind: How do you know which pigment and how much of it to use?
@orfeassiozos1575Ай бұрын
Legit question: why move the tray around instead of submerging the print in the liquid? Very nice photo nonetheless!!
@BillSchwabАй бұрын
@@orfeassiozos1575 that’s a good question. Sometimes it’s because I don’t have quite enough solution and other times it’s because when submerging the print, it can sometimes get development lines on it and I like to hit as much of the print with the chemistry as fast as I can. It’s more of a personal preference.

Beautiful !what dimensions? have you tried with 6X6 cm negatives from Rolleiflex or Hasselblad cameras?
@BillSchwabАй бұрын
Oh yes. My first prints were with 6x6. I love to work with in-camera negs. but, be careful when using them as you can easily damage them if you’re emulsion is not dry, etc.

@BillSchwabАй бұрын
@@chriscard6544 that’s a good one, Chris. It can actually be a little more finicky than Palladium, so it’s a good place to start. You’ll be an expert by the time you get to Palladium.

I have been wanting to go down this road of mixing my own chemistry for P&P but have been a little apprehensive to go down this path so this video is helpful.. I am a little confused here by the math here. 2.3 gas of Palladium in 25cc solution would be a 9% solution. I thought the standard dilution for palladium is a 15% solution? If so, then wouldn't you need about 3.75gms to make a 15%? thanks
