In executive producing this show, Keri Russell showed herself to be a genuine artist, not just an actress who can get a job done. Personally, as I watched the opening episode I wondered if she was the right person for the role, even though I am a longtime fan. But...I realized over a few episodes this was part of the evolution of the character. Impeccable work, as ever, by Keri Russell, but extra special praise for finding this material and making it happen.

There must be a Season 2. This show is too good to simply end. ANd, Hal must be unharmed because Keri cannot pull the whole show along on her own. She definitely needs him because the intimate tension between the two is really what pulls the show along, not the diplomatic situations.

Hal will be there. Not only is he a key figure, as you note, but the show runner Deborah Cahn has been a big fan of Rufus Sewell since he was in Tom Stoppard’s Rock and Roll on Broadway decades ago. RS has played his role wonderfully in The Diplomat and to your point: if you lose the relationship you lose at least half the show. Cahn is too smart to let that happen.

Awesome first season, well written. I hope there will be a season 2 soon. This show has the potential of at least 12 years. Obviously, it would have to change from the diplomat to the VP to the president, growing the cast into various senior political rolls as the seasons go on. I think the show has the energy and potential for years of entertainment.. I would love the opportunity to brainstorm with the writers.

I like the variety of events and acting is good. The constant disrespectful and crass dialogue does not fit with someone's role as an ambassador or diplomat. There can be a variety of opportunities in the future for Keri's character & others to demonstrate some considerate & respectful dialogue. Otherwise the drama is too constant.

MY QUICK REVIEW OF THE DIPLOMAT: I finished, “The Diplomat.” Eight episodes? Could have been done in four, I think. The diplomat woman was not “wicked smart.” She was continually perplexed. But she was wicked cute!!! She looked like a Kennedy woman. She had that pretty look. She got angry at her husband too much. Divorce, no divorce, divorce, no divorce… Anyway, the actor who played her husband was the “wicked smart” one. He knew a lot. I can’t imagine him taking a backseat to his wife. Maybe I’m wrong. The black actor who portrayed the diplomat’s aide was very, very good. He was great in every scene. But I could have done without his Asian girlfriend. Pain in the butt. Overall, there were WAY TOO MANY blacks in a show that took place in Great Britain. I didn’t like the way the story lines pushed the interracial stuff. In fact, I hated that. So unneeded! I read somewhere that the Obamas are involved in Netflix, which might explain the overabundance of blacks in the series. Season two? We’ll see.

I did not like the series at all. Bland story line. The whole time, Keri Russell looked unwashed, unhygienic, and on the verge of a breakdown. Not necessarily asking for glamour, but she looked sticky and grimy the whole time. This would have been realistic if she worked in a car shop or the kitchen, but she was an ambassador hobnobbing with the President of the U.S., the PM of U.K., and she is portrayed as the ONLY ONE who could be V.P. Seriously??? Only Hollywood can come up with that kind of crap.
