Yay, you reacted to this song! In answer to your question, a "set" is another way of saying a group of people; there were a bunch of them in the group, so "Dip Set" is a shorter way of saying "The Diplomats." And yes, Juelz Santana generally sounds like that - he's one of those rappers where the right beats help make him sound more enjoyable. Stand-outs in his catalogue based on that would be "Oh Boy" and "hey Ma" (both with Cam'ron) and solo songs "There It Go" and "Oh Yes!" (which samples Mr. Postman). EDIT: Also, congrats on almost 10K subs!

Yes!!!! Glad Dipset finally made it into the rotation. Iconic group that sparked such a pivotal culture shift in New York hip hop. Their fashion/swag/beats were a whole movement in the early 2000's. Had guys on the westcoast such as myself wearing 3xl basketball jerseys and reciting Cam'ron lyrics. This song really didn't have any deep meaning. Most of their songs just portrayed New York street hustle life and aggression with beats to match. I'd almost equate their brand of rap to death metal groups. You just know when certain songs play at a concert, there's going to be a whole lot of head banging , cracked jaws, and rowdy behavior.

Did they have a mosh pit?
@nohookshot9977
@nohookshot9977 Ай бұрын
@@ABoomerReacts Haha. I don't think they do mosh pits at dipset or other urban type concerts. Just more general chaos with rowdy bumping and the occasional elbows landing. If you google the dipset logo, it's almost patriotic in connotation with the american flag color scheme and perched eagle wielding double glocks. A lot of those original dipset hoodies/jackets go for insane money now from collectors.

This is a NYC anthem and party starter. A lot of DJ's start their sets with this and 50 Cent's What Up Gangsta. We all knew Juelz was kinda trash as an MC, but still loved him as a guilty pleasure.

I like this, a good workout song. They're talking about doing gangsta shit like cooking up crack and whatever hood rat stuff. It reminds me of a Pete Rock song, and Cam'ron sounded a little like Pete Rock when he raps.

The chorus, which was changed due to rights issues. It was supposed to be a combo of Geto Boys “I stood alone in my four corner room looking at candles “ and a biggie line and a Tupac’s line

"Set" = gang collective If I'm not mistaken, Cam'Ron actually made it to college (in Arizona??) with a basketball scholarship but got kicked out for selling drugs while at school. There's footage of Cam'Ron playing a high school tournament in the early 1990s and I'm sure it can be found on KZbin. Let's dissect some lyrics for you. Rap Genius has some good annotations and that's the source you used to read the lyrics, but I'll simplify it even more. [Chorus: Juelz Santana] "I stood alone watching the wall, in the zone, hand on my handles" Reference to opening lines of Geto Boys "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" song, but he also is gripping his guns while being paranoid at home "I stood at home hand on a chrome, with a zone, flipping the channels" Once again, he's at home, hand in his "chrome" (gun) with a "zone" (an ounce of drugs... maybe crack? maybe weed? I dunno, I'm not in the streets. I do know that slang for an ounce used to be "an O Z" or "O-Z" then that updated slang as "zone", but i don't know the story behind that transformative slang.) and he's "flipping the channels" trying to find something to watch on TV "I stood alone, getting dome, from a thick chick in sandals" he's alone, getting fellated by a rotund woman in sandals "Watching Shaft, clocking math" Watching the movie "Shaft", counting money.... all while being fellated.... [Cam'Ron] "I'm on the west side of Chicago, looking for a bust-down Don't make me put my two arms up, touchdown! (what up, ma?)" He's in Chicago and plans on getting fellated "two arms" might mean he's pointing two guns at you, or maybe he just wants to fight but "touchdown" is referring to the football referee signal used when a touchdown is scored so there's the "two arms" wordplay association. "You stay in touch now, but when I touch down I'm like Buckshot, shorty, Duck Down" Buckshot is a rapper from record label Duck Down Records. One might want to "duck down" from getting shot at by Cam if you give him problems when he sees you in person.. "Yeah I must clown, I'm from Harlem, uptown Where we flash money, take your bitch and ask you, "what now?"" pretty self explanatory "Birds flip a dozen, chicks, it's dicks they suckin' Swallow my kids, go and kiss they cousin" a "bird" is a kilo of uncut cocaine. He's selling lots of cocaine, girls are fellating, swallowing semen and then [maybe forcibly] spreading that excess onto other people's faces "Yes, they kissing cousins, Toya's kissing muffin Worse than that, they go home and kiss they husband (shit's foul)" yeah he's just expanding on the previous bars with a crazier scenario "The shit's disgusting Keep the chickens clucking, keep the pigeons bugging" The sex trafficking continues (chickens clucking) and other girls are jealous (pigeons bugging) "This on my wrist is nothing Yeah, it's just yellow hearts and pink diamonds Where I get the money for this? Don't think rhyming" I've got expensive shiny jewelry, thanks to the money made from criminal escapades. "You fucking with Pablo, Bravo Mario Villabona, hoe, Ta-to" He's is naming famous Colombian drug dealers and associates, aligning himself as being on their level in cocaine trafficking.

Okay, so I jumped the gun before I finished watching the video when I wrote those annotations for you. You got the Juelz hook lyrics spot on.. But, you are correct in thinking that Juelz is one note, and most of his appearances on songs are not that amazing, but he does have somewhat of an interesting voice. Freaky Zeeky is a member of Dipset, and I don't think I've ever heard him rapping a song before. And the best thing about most Dipset songs is Cam'ron verses. Who I find more interesting in Dipset are affiliate rappers that aren't core members, like J.R. Writer, Hell Rell, and 40 Cal. One of my favorite Dipset songs that I don't think anyone else will mention is a song called "Get From Round Me"
