Having listened to this episode in its entirety, I can confidently say that the SAAM team has once again delivered an outstanding musical podcast that seamlessly blends history, technique, and emotion. Manek Sir’s insightful introduction to the song from Guide set the perfect tone, offering a brilliant explanation that enriched the overall experience. His narration, combined with the mesmerizing picturization of the song, was both engaging and immersive. The tribute to legendary directors like V. Shantaram, Bimal Roy, and Raj Khosla was not only thoughtful but also a deeply reflective analysis of their monumental contributions to Hindi cinema, particularly in song picturization. The detailed exploration of how these directors wove music into storytelling was both enlightening and captivating. I was especially drawn to the discussion of Vijay Anand’s innovative camera work in Nau Do Gyarah, showcasing his unique techniques that elevated the song "Kya Ho Din Rangila Ho" to new heights. This episode brilliantly demonstrates how music was not merely an embellishment, but a core narrative tool that deepened the emotional resonance of these films. It stands as a perfect tribute to the genius of these legends, whose legacy continues to inspire and influence cinema today. ❤❤❤

@vgg21307 thank you so much for this comment! This was a tough episode to do - trying to encapsulate the work of these directors into a small time frame without doing them injustice - your comment reassures us that our efforts have not been in vain. Thank you, sir!

This is just wonderful 😊 I can make many observations, long enough to be competing in time with your extraordinary episode of 42 minutes😂 But I'll try to be short. Firstly, grateful that you ladies have quoted from my book on film directors multiple times 🙏 Secondly, what a set of names! All four men you have identified were great filmmakers. The songs you have offered are also uff! Shantaram's Aaj madhuvatas dole, Chopra’s Saathi haath badhaana, Roy's Mitwa, and Khosla's Achha ji main haari. All slices of heaven! You ladies rock😊🎵🎊 Further, you have done so well in describing the cabaret Kya ho phir jo din rangeela ho ❤😊 Wonderful work ladies, naman to you all🙏🎹

Manek Sir, falling short of words to say thanks! 🙏🙏😊😊Your book has opened up new vistas of understanding and appreciating our filmmakers - ours is but a humble effort to celebrate this amazing book and take this opportunity to thank these maestro filmmakers who have made life so beautiful for us. Today, we can't think of a life without these evergreen songs and films. How could they make something that will transcend barriers of time and age - it is truly mind-bending. 😊😊🙏🙏💕💕 As Monica says in the episode, we are just beginning to scratch the surface. It was a challenge trying to pick a few songs from the huge baskets of gems they have left behind. So happy to know that the song selection connected with the listener. Makes us feel very very happy! 😊😊🙏🙏 Oh yes, that cabaret Kya ho phir jo din rangeela ho is exceptional in both music and picturisation. If Dada Burman decided to create a song with an extra long prelude and postlude and no interlude, Vijay Anand matched it up with a female orchestra on screen and multi-level set. And Majrooh wrote a Q&A which Geeta and Asha rendered with generous doses of oomph. What a masterpiece! Each song is a diamond, polished to perfection by these filmmakers. Thank you for such appreciation. Means a lot to all of us. 😊😊🙏🙏🎶🎶🎵🎵

Thank you so much Manek sir 🙏♥️ We would love to hear more from you 😁 It is absolute magic to listen to you about films and songs. Mantramugdh karte hain aap. We learn through your writings every time we read them. They're like the Bhagwad Geeta for us. Talking about V. Shantaram, he simply doesn't stop to amaze us all. Especially me 😁. I am a fan of his Marathi films too. Prabhat alone was enough to bring Marathi cinema at a global stage. He was way ahead of his contemporaries. 'Aaj madhuvaatas dole' may be considered one of the finest romantic songs ever. Aur Bharatiya sabhyata ka sahi darshan agar kisi director ne karaya hoga toh woh hai Shantaram. But he still remains unsung as compared to others. I sincerely wish that you start a project on him. It will be a gift to cine observers and researchers 🙏 Thank you once again ♥️
