The Dirt Cast Interview (Machine Gun Kelly, Douglas Booth, Iwan Rheon)
With director Jeff Tremaine’s The Dirt now streaming on Netflix, I recently sat down with the film's stars Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly), Douglas Booth, and Iwan Rheon to talk about playing some of the members of Mötley Crüe. If you haven’t seen the trailers, the film is an adaptation of the of the 2001 memoir The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, which was co-written by the band and Neil Strauss. The film follows howMötley Crüe first formed, features plenty of wild nights in the 1980s, and chronicles the group’s rise to become one of the world’s most famous heavy metal bands. Douglas Booth plays Nikki Sixx, Colson Baker plays Tommy Lee and Iwan Rheon plays Mick Mars. The film also stars Daniel Webber as Vince Neil and Pete Davidson as Tom Zutaut.
During the interview, the three actors talked about how they got ready for their roles, what director Jeff Tremaine was like on set after spending years trying to get this film made, if they ever left set wearing their costumes, if they had a specific interview or video clip they constantly went back to for reference, if there were a lot of deleted scenes, and more. In addition, with Iwan Rheon having played one of the most hated characters on television the past few years (Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones) I asked what it’s like for him when he walks into a bar.

Bravo by the casting director... Fuckin nailed it. Normally on these Biopics, the casting is usually Shit at least 75-80% of the time. This was a rare delight. MGK really impressed me. Absolutely NAILED Tommy Lee, and did a great job for his first acting job.

Dave, I had no idea it was him as Tommy Lee either... I think that means he did well. When I saw Straight Outta Compton I thought to myself "Man, the casting agent that found the kid to play Ice Cube is going to get an award". I didn't know O'Shea Jackson was who he was. I just saw an episode of Ridiculousness today with Kelly as the guest and they were talking about his role. BTW MTV should just be called The Ridiculousness Network now... it's on in 12 hour chunks. Loved the movie! Of course every fan of Motley Crue which I have been since the 80’s would love to see more but to turn a book into a movie is impossible to put everything in. Unless you’re willing to sit through a movie that takes as long to watch as reading the book. Me I’d love that but if that happened then people would be complaining about the length and how they didn’t have to put everything in. If you want more go read the book. It’s amazing. Motley Crue forever!

With that said, Depeche Mode is my jam, and they're still selling out stadiums world wide to this day, with a net worth that is enviable of any 80's band.
